Now that I'm out and looking back, it seems like such a dream. I was in for 25 years. Did we REALLY believe all this stuff? Yes, I know we did. It just seems so unreal that all these millions of people are running around completely oblivious to life around them, totally wrapped up in this fantasy of Armageddon and Paradise. Did this really happen?
Did we really carry cards in our wallets, instructing the doctor to let us die instead of accepting life-saving treatment?
Did we really let older men in Brooklyn that we have never met makes rules for every aspect of our life - saving seats, not leaving the convention at lunch, not sitting in the same seats at the meetings, not hanging out with co-workers, rules for sex between married people, etc...?
Did we really think that we knew ALL ABOUT other religions, and were experts on the subject?
Without ever examing the evidence, did we really believe God chose this organization in 1919?
Wow - it almost seems like a bad dream. We were 100% under their mind control. It all seems so silly when you are on the outside looking in. Now I know what all these people around me were thinking when I was telling them about 1914 and Armageddon is gonna happen any day now and that they must join my church to get saved!
Yes, we REALLY DID believe this stuff. Wow!!!!!
LOL
Does it seem unbelievable to you, as you look back on it?

also don't know if this has been mentioned previously.. our speaker yesterday, gb member br.
pierce, tied the overlap theory directly to fred franz's lifetime.. did anyone else catch this?.
evidently (and i'm paraphrasing), anyone anointed after franz's death in 1992 is not of the 'generation'.. 5th.
I believe this part about Freddy Franz must be a word for word manuscript, because that sounds identical to the audio I listened to out of Arizona on a clip somebody posted.

recently, someone on here(i can't remember who) suggested the book, "who wrote the bible?".
i ordered it from amazon and my husband has read it and loved it.
it dealt mostly with the old testament.
I recommended Who Wrote The Bible by Richard Elliot Friedman a few days ago on here. I don't know of a book that covers that new testament entirely, but "History of the End of the World" by Jonathon Kirsch covers the book of revelation quite well. It's quite a thought-provoking read. I recommend it. It discusses Revelation from the time it was written until today, and all the hundreds/thousands of interpretations that people have come up with, and how all those people are dead now and the world is still alive and kicking.

considering the fact we've had so many newbies here i thought it would be good to just open it up to you folks to see how life is going for you since you exited the witnesses ?
it's hard many times to move on- however with lots of ex-witnesses on the board here who have been through similar experiences - perhaps those of us who have been out awhile can give you someideas on how to move on in your post jw life to make it a little easier .
so fire away newbies and recently exited jw 's.
Thanks Flipper for the suggestions. I ALWAYS enjoy your posts and look for your new ones.

my friend and his girlfriend will be meeting with their elders this coming week to confess the lengthy amount of time they've been committing "pornea".
so far the elders know that he wants to meet with them and he wants to setup a time.
he hasn't told them what for though.. he was asking me what the process will be like.
Do NOT confess anything!

I have never been more stressed.
That's because my wife is still in, and when I quit, it was devastating to her. So it's been a very stressful ride for me since January. And it continues until now...however it seems that maybe things are making a turn for the better.
But, as far as being out of the cult - I have never been happier in my life. It's wonderful not having to listen to all thier BS. It's awesome to go to work and other places, and look at people through new eyes. When I look at them, i realize that I'm not anybody special, and I don't have any special knowlege that they don't have.
It's great not worrying about Armageddon. It's also a pretty cool feeling knowing that there are millions of books sitting on bookshelves, and lots of them were written by SMART people. And I can read these non-witness books and actually benefit myself.
So, all things considered, being out of this cult has produced challenges - but I am very happy. I look forward to a long and happy life, and hope to accomplish many things in the future.

approximately five weeks ago, i visited the local library and searched every book i could find that discusses the destruction of jerusalem in ancient times.
if you didn't see that thread, you can find it here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/192813/1/607-b-c-e-a-trip-to-the-local-library-with-pictures.
the results were conclusive: all secular sources agree that jerusalem was destroyed in 587/586 bce.
Wow - 1764 views on this thread. For a newbie, I feel like a gangster!

just curious.
i know there was some issue amongst some religious orgs about their flock going to see this movie so i just wondered if anyone knows of a jw who did go and see it.. sammieswife.
I know quite a few JW's that saw it and liked it. Shortly after that, the emails started circulating about JW's should not see it. My wife and I laughed (i was still active then) and remarked what BS the email was.

I have heard two audio recordings of the convention talk on Sunday that revealed the "new generation" and they both mentioned F. Franz. So I'm assuming this part is on the outline/manuscript.
