Is there any way to fast forward through this stuff? I find the "old time radio show" style really tedious and self-indulgent. After hearing that Barb won't be on for 45 minutes I try to fast forward it, but it starts playing the same crap all over again. I really don't have the time.

Motives Behind JW Lies
by Deeraq ini know that in religions, they do what they do because it is about politics and money.
those are the motives behind why religions are the way they are and do what they do.
but can someone tell me what would be the motive(s) of jw's lieing and controling their participants (for lack of a better word)?

AS Ray Franz wrote, they are captives of a concept. They have a 100% conviction that they are God's people and while they wait for him to use them to perform miracles, they do what they can to show followers and non-believers alike they have his "blessing" and endorsement and are his agency to mete out his justice. If that involves stretching the truth a bit, they know he won't mind: the end justifies the means.

State your "epiphany moment " for leaving the WT
by caliber ini have found some powerful reinforcements when people have stated their " epiphany moment "... please share some.. my turning pointing began when i was badly hurt by a person i had always viewed as a literal brother.
i realized that if his.
love was conditional.... if it was the case with him , then how about those i had less affection for and trust in ?.

I hated it for years, but made the actual decision to never return after reading the first few chapters of Crisis of Conscience and reading what an utterly manmade religion it is, not at all averse to lying, and just how baseless its claim to be God's organisation. God bless Ray Franz! How many lives did that man save?

Please forgive... but what is the official word on... Chitty and Greenlees?
by headisspinning inplease bear with me... i am deep into reading 'crisis of conscience' but i came across the name 'greelees' and i was wondering if someone could tell me a quick version of the official story on both chitty and greenlees.
i was trying to research it here but i don't have hours to spend wading through the threads... .

James Penton referred to the scandal briefly in the footnotes in his "Apocalypse Delayed book.

FDS says - "No need to check our work. Besides, it will only make God angry."
by Crisis of Conscience inthough i no longer believe the fds is indeed appointed by god, i guess because of what has been taught to me all these years through the wtbts, i still make an effort to try and look at both sides.
and then i come across this number below, which is how i arrived at my title for this thread.

Jehovah's view on the need to examine one's religion evidently changed in the years betwen 1969 and 1981.
W69 1/15: "Faith, to be like a rock-mass, must be based on truth. It must be clearly defined in one’s mind, solidly established on accurate knowledge and facts. Such a faith will stand up to questions and opposing viewpoints. Our faith should be a God-given faith. But how can we be sure? As 2 Corinthians 13:5 says, “Keep testing whether you are in the faith, keep proving what you yourselves are.” Yes, we have to keep testing and examining our faith: Is it logical, is it reasonable, does it harmonize with the book of faith, the Bible?"
W69 3/15: "We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with which we may be associated. Are its teachings in full harmony with God’s Word, or are they based on the traditions of men? If we are lovers of the truth, there is nothing to fear from such an examination."

Is it my imagination, or do JWs jump around in Mat 24 to prove "Last Days"?
by WontLeave in3 as jesus was sitting on the mount of olives, the disciples came to him privately.
tell us, they said, when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?
4 jesus answered: watch out that no one deceives you.

WontLeave, that's brilliant.

Are You Going To the Memorial?
by headisspinning ini can't see myself not attending.
i would feel horrible not to go.
i don't know where i'm going to land and if i had to look back and think i didn't go... well, i would feel awful..
-
MrMonroe
The JWs have no more connection with God and Jesus than the man next door.
If you want to memorialise Christ's death, do it at home on your own. There is no scriptural requirement to meet with a religious denomination to take the emblems.
Bottom line is that it is ingrained into JWs from the start that they must never, no way, uh-oh, no-no-no ever miss the Memorial. It is part of their guilt trip. It may make you feel uncomfortable the first time, but really, it gets easier .... and you won't be hit by a thunderbolt.

"Trust the Faithful and Discreet Slave" Transcript [2010/2011 Kingdom Ministry School]
by pirata intranscript for the talk "trust the faithful and discreet slave" talk given at the kingdom ministry schools:.
trust the faithful and discreet slave.
have we ever had to meet up with somebody with whom we've not seen before?
-
MrMonroe
Thanks for the transcript. It's fascinating to see they way in one talk they blur the line between the FDS and the GB. They're talking about identifying one; then suddenly they're talking about why Witnesses have to be obedient to the other. Then, tying it together, there's reference to the GB being the "spokesman" for the FDS. I don't recall Jesus ever speaking about a "spokesman class."
It's also interesting to see how they airbrush the point of supposed decision by Jesus about who would be his faithful slave "class". Yes, the WTS (like amy other religions at the time) was feeding its followers in 1914-1918. But as Don Cameron details in his Captives of a Concept book, they were feeding them doctrines that within a generation would be discarded as falsehoods (or misunderstandings as they call 'em). Jesus' parable (or the traditional WTS applicaiton of it) made no allowance for choosing a slave that taught lies/misunderstandings, then over the next 90 years gradually correcting it and eradicating those lies. Why would he?
The FDS is clearly growing year by year, so in response the GB has had an "adjustment" to block out 99.9999 percent of them. The subtext is this: Out of 11,202 anointed, only seven are eligible to speak on God's behalf. They do so because they decided it. The remaining 11,195 simply obey.
What would happen if a rival representative group of anointed established themselves as the spokesman? (Yeah I know, a repeat of the 1917 leadership dispute. But it's worth thinking about).

looky looky - A 'real' J-dub forum! (are they becoming normal???)
by Reality79 inso did the 'da society' give these dub internet savvies permission to start a forum?
because last i checked, the ole boys in their oversized brooklyn bunker didn't want their members on the internet unless it was to view their own official websites.
i thought maybe it was an apostate forum until i read their long winded, typically condescending jdub style membership guidelines:.

MrMonroe
Oops! Their list of approved "JW friendly websites" includes a link to a site clearly offering apostate material. The Strictly Genteel website contains copies of early Watchtowerrs and old Russell and Rutherford books that are distinctly "old light". Repeating those views today would warant expulsion.
