Worldly is a good one. In general in English it means sophisticated, wise as to how things work.
James Bond is worldly, in a good way. Not for JW's.
a comment to my jw friend on the definition of doctrine and how the wtbts uses the term 'doctrine' pejoratively and mockingly to describe ideas of the people of 'christiandom,' another derogatory word.
can anybody think of other words the jws use to attack people of other persuasions?.
"you have a misunderstood word on 'doctrines' as the bible is full of doctrine written by the men who authored the bible.. see definition of doctrine: a doctrine is a body of teaching and the bible contains a body of teaching.

The word church, although understood by all other English-speakers on earth to mean either a religion or a religious building, is regarded as a pejorative by Jehovah's Witnesses.
Remember when you were a kid and someone asked where your church was and you were shocked and thought "I don't have a church, I have a Hall!!" Or out in field service someone asked what church you belonged to and you said defiantly, as trained, "We don't belong to a church, we are Jehovah's Witnesses."
if you're concerned about your privacy on the internet, i would like to give you a quick warning.. your avatar here, whether it is customized or a gravatar (the creature thing), is linked to your email address.
so if you comment on certain other sites with the same email address that you registered with here, the same image may appear.. for some it's not a big deal, for others it is.. i found this out, and decided to look into it further, when i saw my very same gravatar appear next to a comment i'd left on a friend's blog.. read more here......... http://en.gravatar.com/.

hello friends... just found out that at the recent one day assembly they are now really discouraging people from getting married!!!!!
they will lose young ones like crazy if they start telling them that they cannot get married...what are these sexually frusterated young people to do??
you cannot masterbate, you cannot have sex outside of marriage (not that i would encourage it either, but...), now you cannot even get married?????
Lynnie, I had to laugh.... "she does have to work in the kitchen but they have their own apartment"... I should hope so! I've never heard of a Bethel couple having to share a bunk-bed dorm room. The noises at night could prove to be um.... interesting.
Etude, respect brother, you are so eloquent. You nailed it.
I especially appreciate your insightful opinion that this is tactical, a short-term jab, rather than strategic, part of a long-term vision.
Mr Flipper, indeed, "In all mind control cults, witnesses included - the motive is to separate a member from close emotional attachment to spouses, children, brothers and sisters and physical relatives , and friends and then replace those with other cult members who a cult member is supposed to call " brother " or " sister ."
What's that scripture in the New Testament about being wary of those who try to prevent people from marrying?
About missionaries.... Fascinating (I'd forgotten about this) that only married people can be JW missionaries. Once again, where's the scriptural support? Actually, I don't care much for scriptural support myself.... but where does this prohibition on unmarried missionary service make any sense at all?
The true missionaries - not today's unmarried Mormon youngsters or married JW Gilead graduates but those who went mainly from England to the colonies and unchartered regions back in the 1700's to 1900's - went as either single men or single women or as solid family units. And many of the singles married once out in the territories and created new families.
The term "missionary", like the term "pioneer", is much abused by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.
Anyway, as many have said in this thread, the renewed encouragement not to marry is purely another instrument of CONTROL.
in the last 7 years 3 neighbors have died.
all were not expected.. when i lived in winnipeg our neighbor died.
he was healthy one day and gone the next.
Didn't Linda post on a few of your threads?
i attended one day of a two day assembly and did ok until the very last talk.
the brother was from bethal and well jw's pay closer attention to their talks, cause that is when some new info is given,,,right.
well anyways i lost focus and began to daydream, cause it became one of those talks that just talks about wasting time.
The only way to understand this ban is that it's about a misunderstanding of sexual arousal by very elderly men in New York who have never had sex.
The idea of a man with his eyes closed and his lovely wife holding him can only mean one thing, an erect penis and his mind wondering onto other things. More importantly, the 40-year-old virgin ministerial servant who accidentally opens his eyes and sees this prayerful foreplay can only result in him being stumbled by his own inappropriate woody during the prayer.
Sure.
people, there i go again.
i'm curious about elderettes.
if i understand correctly, an elderette is an elder's wife who plays an important role in the congregation, even though the formal organization chart would not include her.
I've never heard the term "elderette" used in the congregation context in real life. I've only heard it used in online ex-JW forums like this one and others to refer to female posters who act in a bossy or annoying way.
when i joined this forum i mentioned that i was a lurker for 3 or 4 years before i actually joined.
it did take me a long time!
anyway i posted a comment on a hobby forum that i belong to and this was part of someones reply..... "btw, how is it possible to have been on this forum for 6 years, and only have 8 posts?".
I've been reading here for more than three years. After I joined a few months ago you couldn't shut me up!
i just thought it would be fun to put a face to some of the people who don't mind sharing.
i understand some of you can't.. .
wednesday's daily text was a masterpiece.
each sentence just added another layer of sexual guilt and repression.
i could go off for at least another 500 words but i'll stop.. .
Healthy physical pleasure is an important part of being human. The message that authority figures (parents, religions, teachers) convey should focus on healthy versus unhealthy sexual pleasure, not sex versus no-sex.
