Good books against evolution?
by bohm inafter reading 'the greatest show on earth' by dawkins, i have been intrigued by how biblical literalists explain the many findings that seem to support evolution and contradict various parts of the bible.
in doing to i have browsed around on aig but i have generally felt let down by the quality of evidence and interpretations they present.
so i would like to ask all non-evolutionists: if i wanted to learn more about the physical case against evolution, what books should i read?

unless you have read it cover-to-cover you should keep your opinion to yourself. - JO DO
Yeah wow!
Once you've read a few books by religiously motivated non-biologists criticising something they don't properly understand you've read them all. Life is not long enough to read the ramblings of every nutter with an opinion.
Michael Behe's book has been thoroughly refuted. It's main claims (irreducible complexity, ID, bacterial flagellum, blood clotting cascade etc) were exposed in court in the Dover trial by real scientists, some of whom were also religious by the way

JW Science Quote (1-15)
by TD inalmost anyone who has ever attended the jw annual commemoration of the "lord's evening meal" (memorial) has heard the term "equinox" at least once.
the term is important to jws because they use the vernal equinox in attempting to set the correct date for this event.
despite how important it seems to be though, when jw literature explains the term, it is usually wrong.

Thanks for that TD really interesting.
To digress slightly I remember my in-laws congregation shared a KH and one year they finished their memorial well before sundown so the next congregation could get in before it got late. As usual a big section of the talk was about the significance of the date - what a farce!

How many DF'ed on this board have actually had...
by tenyearsafter inhow many disfellowshipped ones on this board have actually had follow up elder visits "encouraging" them to return to the meetings?.
i have been df'ed for 15 years now, and i have never had one visit (i am not saying that is a bad thing!
) from an elder encouraging me to return to the organization.

The Repair Technician, Jesus, has most generously offered to bear the entire burden of the staggering cost of these repairs. There is no additional fee required.
Yeah right...
Now, none of us know whether our life may end unexpectedly. So it is clearly wise to keep at a high level our zeal and activity in serving Jehovah. That way we will maintain our good name with him and keep living with our eternal future in view. - The Watchtower, 15 August 1997, p.13.

want to say hello to all the heathens and worldy ones out there
by avesta inhi i dis - assd myself six years ago and only just found this site.. i wished i had found it years ago instead of having to ween off the cult practices i was born into for 35 yrs.. i had a very hard time adjusting and still find some things difficult to come to terms with.. i bumped into a "sister" i had last seen wen i left last week to find out she had left the "cult" as well and is a qualified reiki master and also a hypnotherapist.
i think it is great she can carry on with her new life despite the ingrained teachings of demons.. i have divorced in the meantime and have done so much in the past six years than i ever did in the 35 years before.
oh and i am much more conteded, i have no one over my shoulder telling me i am wrong for this or that!

mechanic: "god tells me how to fix your car"....nice
by oompa inso this mechanic tells you that you can really trust him to be the best because god guides him through his repairs on your car....he does not even need diagnostic equipment because god lets him know everything he needs to keep your car on the road...and you believe him.
you dont really worry the first or second time your car breaks down right after a repair...because after all god is with this mechanic and you will just be patient until god guides your mechanic to the real problem and he fixes your car.
but when the car breaks down a dozen times.....two dozen....a hundred....when the mechanic just never gets your car running right or reliably and makes countless excuses....just how many times will you keep going back to the same mechanic?

god was OK in the good ol' days but everything is so technical now - electronic this and computerised that. Used to be a hammer and an adjustable wrench was all he needed. He's a bit long in the tooth to learn new tricks
