In a recent WT, the GB asked (I forget the exact wording), Is it possible that the "faithful slave" is simply a parable meant for all Christians, and not an identity as such?

Their answer, of course, backed by pretzel logic, is no.

I've noticed they've been doing this sort of thing more frequently. They'll ask a reasonable question about their doctrine that a reasonable person would ask, essentially acknowledging that your question is totally reasonable. Then they tell you that you're totally wrong, using little or no reason to counter your reasonable question. You're just wrong.

I've met with the same response when questioning the blood issue. Yes, how you feel is understandable. But, still, you're just plain wrong, and your viewpoint is prideful. No attempt to reason with me or even quote Scripture. Just wrong. Totally reasonable but totally wrong.

I think the historic evidence for Jesus is probably about the same for Moses, Zarathustra, Krishna, Buddha, Lao-Tzu, etc. any of the religious founders of antiquity. But I'm no historian. Maybe Leolaia or one of the other scholars here could help you out.

i have not noticed the witnesses referring to themselves in the literature as a christian denomination before: is this a new development?

the february 1st wt says on page 22:.

"a high-school textbook, world religions in denmark, published in 2007, described jehovah's witnesses as a christian minority who follow the bible closely.

Well, just a few years ago they officially started referring to themselves as the "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses". The letterhead is on (I believe) all their official "communiques". Check out your local KH bulletin board.

Witnesses in good standing aren't even supposed to touch this stuff. They've been told over and over not to create websites dealing with religious matters. Therefore, any such websites are automatically either one of two things:

1) A fraud, i.e. one of the GB or their henchmen posing as apologists, or

2) A member who is going against his/her religion, and therefore invalid as an apologist.

Therefore any "JW apologist" websites are officially worthless. End of story.

i feel compelled out of gratitude and love to write this little tale, not because i have lost my faith, but because i realize i am not alone, and as heb 10: 24, 25 states: and let us consider one another to incite to love and fine works, 25 not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as you behold the day drawing near.. i have never felt nor would i ever think that that scripture applied solely to meeting atendance.

the form of true christian love displayed by many here on this board affirms my faith in jehovah and lets me know i am not alone!.

There are so many caveats and so much repression regarding sexuality in the WT that seeking an "inappropriate" outlet is inevitable. Masturbation isn't mentioned in the Bible? Well, then, shut the fuck up about it and mind your own goddamned business. Oral sex isn't mentioned in the Bible either, but the GB is not below telling a married couple what they can and cannot do in the privacy of their own home. If you ask me, Big Brother needs to get laid.

No, they really have no clue. There's a term for this. It's called "projectionism". My wife, mother, and myself, all suffer from it. The difference between myself and the WT is that a) I acknowledge it and b) I don't threaten anyone with shunning because of it.

The argument the Dubs make is something along these lines:

The "faithful and discreet slave" MUST be the Faithful and Discreet Slave, because only the "faithful and discreet slave" has successfully identified the Faithful and Discreet Slave as the "faithful and discreet slave".

In other words, nobody else is claiming it. Therefore it must be us.

The problem with this argument is this: Why haven't they identified the personages in countless other parables as having a direct correspondence with a real person or group of people on earth today?

In other words, ask your JW friends, "OK, then, who is The Sower? The Woman Who Hid The Leaven? The Man Who Found Treasure? The Merchant Seeking Pearls? The Vinedresser With The Two Sons..."

Do you see where I'm going with this? I can take any scripture that hasn't been "satisfactorily explained" or "identified" by mainline Christians, apply it to myself, and say "There. I'm right by virtue of the fact that nobody else has laid claim to this passage."

It's the same trick with the blood issue. Why pluck one single scripture from the NT and create an entire theology around it to the point that you need lawyers to help you make head or tail of it? There are countless other injunctions in the NT that the WT conveniently ignores. Why single out this one?

Christ, talk about irony! I JUST finished posting, literally SECONDS ago, about the WT's warning people about "propaganda" and then turning around then using it themselves! Must be the leadings of the Spirit. And, BTW, this IS a religion that can drive people to the brink of suicide. I am barely-living proof. This is NOT somewhere they want to go with people like myself.
