no way that can't be real...can it?
sd-7 has shown a real talent for writing better (and more entertaining) Watchtower articles than the Writing Department ever could...
in many cultures, arranged marriages are a common practice.
often this involves the parents of both parties making specific arrangements for their children to marry upon reaching a certain age.
sometimes there is money or property given to the parents of the bride as compensation for the loss of her efforts in the household.

HA! Classic...
for those unaware the memorial has no scriptural basis.
of the 12 men at the last passover not one of them ever said or wrote jesus said "do this in remembrance of me" matthew said jesus blessed the bread and wine and gave the bread and wine to his apostles.
we have paul saying jesus said those words and the writting of luke which everyone needs to read and find out what's missing in his account.
Welcome, roadrunner!
I think that you'll find a very mixed group here. Many are still technically JWs and are currently unable to leave for various reasons. Others have left and have found happiness and contentment in a variety of beliefs, from Christianity to Judaism to Pre-Christian Polytheism.
Many are also atheists or agnostics, and do not "hang their beliefs" on anything. Rather, they are generally open to examining science, history, mythology, and other fields of knowledge and making up their minds as to what makes sense in light of evidence.
Again, welcome!
i don't know if i, or smoeone else, shared this before but i thought it funny and odd enough to share again.
imagine if you will, if we actually presented what we all know to be true about the beliefs of the jw's at the door when we were witnesses.
after all, jesus message was to be simple; simple enough that even the poorest and most uneducated would be able to accept him and convert to christianity, no matter the flavor of kool-aid we were pushing.
LOL
Good stuff, WingCommander. Simple truths, indeed.
initially i suppose i did.
i know i over studied the articles for the wt study because i thought my enthusiasm as a study would make me more accepted.
but after awhile i didnt read the awakes at all except for a cursory glance because i was giving them to people.
lepermessiah - exactly. When were we supposed to have time to sit and read literature when all of our time was spent at meetings, in the ministry, or preparing for the meetings (including parts every week for some of us) and the ministry.

I always felt guilty for not keeping up with the latest magazines. I rarely bothered reading the books - I would thumb through the new releases upon receiving them, and read selected parts of the yearbook.
jw's are very fond of taking words and making them mean somthing completly different.
i thought it might be interesting to compile these.
of course every other worldly dictonary will say that the word mean somthing different... but brothers and sisters!

Regarding the evolution, I don't believe in it like the extremists evolutionists do, that we evolved from fishes or reptiles
Cindi, this is not considered an "extreme" view. It is accepted by the majority of the scientific community as fact.
Life is now: As far as god starting it all, and then letting evolution run its course: I guess we can't know, in my opinion. It may as well have been dog, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or abiogenesis, or transpermia, or Your Name Here.
Kinky or straight?
Wow, taken out of context, that's just fun!
It is straight. Mrs. Zoiks loves it!
