Excellent! All that space taken up by a "theocratic library"... ugh.
Edit: Maybe a theocratic library isn't such a bad idea. It should consist of The Finished Mystery, Aid to Bible Understanding, and Commentary on the Letter of James.
throwing out some litter trash.
i'll soon have enough space in my book case for the harry potter books and a collection of stephen king..

i've been a long-time reader of this site and have found it everything from informative to entertaining... but i'm now posting because i'm craving the ears (or eyes, i guess) of people who understand.. .
my mother was just last week diagnosed with an "ovarian type" cancer.
the oncologist discussed with her how far the cancer has already spread, and said she would operate immediately to remove as much of it as possible, but would not proceed if my mother resisted a transfusion as the risk of blood-loss will be too great.
Welcome, voodoo lady. I am so sorry to hear about your mom. How wonderful that you two have a good relationship! Regardless of her decisions, it will be good for her to have your unconditional love and support.
I don't agree with some who might want to take the decision-making away from her. She is an adult with the right to decide what she wants. If you can help her to see that transfusions are not evil, then good! Either way, she needs your support. Please keep us posted, and all the best to you and her.
can't think of her name right now (she's a comedienne), but i think i have had about enough with the progressive insurance ads.
they seem to be everywhere, all the time.. i guess there is a ton of money to be made when every other commercial on tv seems to be an insurance company hawking its products (progressive, geico, etc, etc, etc).. rub a dub.
I think she's kinda cute
But then, I don't have television so I'm not inundated with advertisements every 5 minutes.
this is a true story, more than 10 years ago, i went to the memorial and there was a very hot bible student female.
we met each other, she gave me her phone number.
.
God Chick, Mag - I am so sorry.
This organization has a lot to answer for.
ok, here's my current list:.
i just finished the greatest show on earth by richard dawkins, and am almost finished crisis of conscience by...some guy.. currently in hand, i have:.
the power of myth, joseph campbell and bill moyers.
Oh, happy day! Crisis of Conscience, In Search of Christian Freedom, and The Gentile Times Reconsidered were delivered to my door yesterday! I have read CoC, and am hoping that my wife will read it now.
Just being able to have these and speak openly about their contents is a major victory!
Also... ISoCF is huge...
i'm new here and probably missed the latest discussion of the beard topic.
what's the latest on beards in jw society?
i'm 2 weeks into a beard and just got to wondering about it.
The CO also has a say in this. Our last CO indicated that one of his dislikes was sideburns. Instantly, 90% of the young guys in the circuit who were trying to get appointed lost their sideburns.
i am so thrilled to find this forum.
it is such a relief to know that all of us 'apostates' are normal people who had the nerve to question what has been crammed down our throats.. i am 4th generation ex-jw with family members at bethel, doing missionary work, and pioneering.
even though i have been out for almost 20+ years, i still had guilt admitting to myself that this was a cult-like organization until just recently.
Welcome! Take your time, and enjoy the company.
one thing this site has made me reflect on the baptism practice in jw land.. many of us were raised in the religion, thus you were given the pressure early on to shoot for baptism as a goal.. i remember feeling bad because i waited until the ripe old age of 14 to take the plunge.. looking back, i realize that when i was 14, i didnt even know what my favorite color was, let alone have enough knowledge to make a life altering decision.
yet, growing up in that climate, i would say anyone who waited past their early teens to get baptised was viewed with great suspicion and was likely to be viewed as "bad association".
kids who took the dip at 8-9 years of age were viewed as "wise beyond their years" and the like.. how old were some of you when you were baptised, and what are your feelings on the matter?.
I was 12. This came up in a conversation (argument) with mom recently.
Mom: You made a promise to Jehovah!
Me: I was 12, mom.
Mom: …when you made a promise to Jehovah!
Me: Mom, I was TWELVE. Too young to make a promise…
Mom: …to Jehovah…
ME: …that I would be held accountable to for the rest of my life!
Mom: Exactly! You promised!
well, as my suspicious side suspected, my wife has rather suddenly flipped the script on me.
she got confused after i explained reality to her, and by coincidence the elders are now going to do a shepherding call on us.
after having read my e-mail (see 'drawing disciples after myself?
sd-7,
Much power to you.
hey there folks, another one of my attention getting titles.
i liked the charity videos but i think the most commented on video of mine is the one regarding homosexuality in nature.
e-watchman made a video response to the video which fell right into one of the stereotype answers i've gotten a hundred times on the video.
I don't see how you can argue against nature
Bluegrass - exactly! I think that you would do well to do a bit of research into homosexuality in nature. You'll find that it is quite common.
