My greatest hope is that Ted McGinley will become a member of the Governing Body.
Then, we will know that the end of the organization is truly near!
for those who need a refresher, here is the latest redefinition of "generation" from the 4/15/2010 wt:.
understand jesus words about this generation?.
he evidently meant that the lives of the anointed.
My greatest hope is that Ted McGinley will become a member of the Governing Body.
Then, we will know that the end of the organization is truly near!
so yesterday my fiance (nonjw) and i went to my mom's for dinner and invited my sister's husband and her as well.
it was a nice visit but i couldn't help but notice a watchtower that had in bold letters alcohol on her coffee table.
i didn't make a comment but just chucked in my head as i recall my mom's "drinking" (as far as problem i'm not sure) but as dinner begin my mom offered beer which then i realize now her thinking, she is leading to the idea of moderation and that watchtower is there as her reminder to keep it in moderation.. then we were getting on the subject of age.
I think a good percentage of Witnesses are moderate to heavy drinkers. Like you said, its a "legal" means of having some fun.
The word "Moderation" has been stretched and twisted by many a JW.
At all of the congregations I have attended, we have had a few major league alcoholics who NEVER were "marked' or "counseled" for hitting the bottle really hard. A couple of them would show up at meetings reeking of alcohol.
Most social events I attended over the last 15 years all had massive amounts of booze available. I have walked out buzzed of more JW social events than ever at home or at a restaurant.
here is what i am getting at with that subject title:.
this sunday's wt study article really hit home for me what many have been talking about on the forum.. when i was growing up, there was a big deal made about the identity of each gb member - people would wax poetically about working with them at bethel, meeting them at a convention, etc.it wasn't unusual for them to be frequently named in articles, pictured in books, and somewhat glorified.. the president of the wtbs was practically on par with christ - he was viewed as practically a deity.. i had friends who could not only name the 12 apostles, but could rattle off the names of the gb members!
now, it seems like the tactic has changed, starting with the reduction of the presidents' role of a few years ago - place massive emphasis on the gb itself as a unit, but keep the profile of the members lower.

I could only name a couple of the members right now, and that is due to having previous experience with them.
I dont know if it is just because I am paying more attention now, but I swear every WT study and CBS somehow works the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" into the discussion. Its pathetic......
The WT this Sunday was totally disgusting, as has been commented on in other threads. I went out and sat in the car because I was fuming - LOL. It was one of those meetings where I should have told my wife that our deal is off for today for me attending on Sunday. It was the strongest example of "Follow Us or ELSE" that I can recall. They seem to really be turning the screws to the rank and file right now.
What I was p'ed off the most about was the paragraph along the lines of following their counsel closely. What did they mention - did they mention LOVE of fellow man, COMPASSION, and other Christian qualities? No, they mentioned dress and grooming, entertainment, etc. It was ridiculous. Then, when the comments were made by the congregation members, I wanted to gag, it was like the Stepford Wives. I think they are trying harder than ever to create Sheeple..........
The great thing about the lesson is that it sped up my resolve to fade faster - I am at the point where the meetings are too much to take.
Another side effect was that I felt really disappointed in myself after that WT study, having believed for most of my life that this was God's chosen channel.
this heart warming news story was in yesterdays guardian newspaper :.
" mohammad asadujjaman's mother may not have schooled him in the quickest routes through the mean streets of the big apple or the best ways to negotiate with its famously plain-speaking inhabitants.. but she does appear to have imbued the 28-year-old new york taxi driver with an even greater gift: incorruptible honesty.. on finding that an italian tourist had left a handbag containing more than $21,000 (13,000) in cash - not to mention jewellery worth thousands more - on his backseat on christmas eve, the bangladesh-born cabbie knew exactly what to do.. he rummaged through the bag until he found an address in long island.
then he rang a friend with a car and embarked on a 50-mile trip in the hope of handing over his find to someone who knew his fare, 72-year-old felicia lettieri from pompeii.
Good Points Six of Nine!
I was thinking along those lines......
Lets praise our "Loving Brotherhood" for not stealing, being honest at work, etc.....
But lets completely ignore and sweep under the rug the thousands and thousands of dirt balls in the organization.
"Well, he doesnt steal, is a hard worker, and quit his job to go to the District Assembly, but he has abused 43 children!"

But worldly people have no scruples, are all liars and dishonest, and are just out to get each other.
Where was this, the Weekly World News?
OTWO has it right - this is what the WT will say.
"They were so, so, so happy," said the unknown young man, a volunteer who began his full time ministry about three months ago after he quit his high-paying secular job to tell others about the Bible.
Thanks Wobble that was a nice story.
i received this crap from my jw mom today.
i hope it doesn't "encourage" you to go back .
you see, when i left, i immediately felt the relief of not being burned all the time by all of the gossip that occurs within the congregations, circuits, etc.
After some minutes, the elder took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone then he sat back in his chair, still silent.
I was imagining the scene from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" where the bad guy Nazi "Toht" takes the poker from the fire and threatens Marion to tell him where the medallion is!
Come back to the meetings OR ELSE my brother!!
Im sorry you had to receive that Snakes - I instantly delete that crap too unless a family member sneaks one in.
i think i have have a new clarification on this new generation teaching.. in the movie idiocracy, the main character is cryrogenically frozen and awakens 500 years in the future.. since he is still relatively "young", he could be considered to be of the same "generation" of the people from the future.. the movie also shows a world where dysgenic pressure has resulted in a uniformly stupid human society devoid of individual responsibility or consequences: so, they would easily buy the "generations" teaching.. i think the wtbs is telling us two things - that we will soon be able to successful freeze people and that they will eventually be proven right.. just like the movie, the slogans and speech of the future will be dumbed down.. "millions now living may never die" will become "many of you mf'ers won't die" and etc........ i can feel it now.....its all very clear..

the other day, i finally got to hear one of the new "kingdom songs" .
it was hillarious when first, no one knew the song and mumbled their way through it, and then second, when the speaker reminded the congregation that they have been encouraged to practice learning the new songs at home!
lol!!!!

LOL!!!! Yeah Right!!
I can just see "Family Study Night" being used to learn and sing new Kingdom Songs - what practical ways to enrich your life through Bible study!
It totally reminded me of this:
just another log on the "generation" fire....... i was researching the term "generation x" and its basically agreed upon that it is a term used for the group born between 1961 to 1981.. the generation before that in the usa, called the "baby boomers" was slightly shorter.. what is interesting is that gen x is also referred to in the usa as the 13th generation - counting back to the founding of the country in the 1770's.. so, again...... why is the wt telling us that a generation can span for decade after decade, crossing centuries???????.
.
"the watchtower - confusing the hell out of you since 1877!

most witnesses never could explain exactly who the "faithful slave" was (according to the society's explanation).
the resurection of the sodomites was another bewildering thing.
were they or weren't they going to be resurrected?
How about the J.F. Rutherford fables in the Revelation Book?
I used to get embarrassed trying to explain that BS to someone who wanted a Revelation book.
