Thinking about the "two witnesses" rule for disfellowshipping -
by JWoods init just occurred to me that very possibly the jws are violating their own rule of "two witnesses" to convict a member of sin.. they have also long held the rule that if a man and a woman spend the night alone, this is evidence of adultery - but are there really two witnesses to adultery?
at the most, it would mean that there could have been two witnesses that they stayed under one roof for the night - not necessarily that they did the deed.
i personally know of certain cases where people have been dfd on this kind of "evidence" even when they protested that no sex took place.. what it made me think about is the greatly restrictive rule on proof of child molestation - here it is practically impossible to obtain their standard of "two witnesses" - in this case, the witnesses have to effectively observe the actual act of molestation.. is this a double standard?

Montana man claims Yahweh sold him a house -
by JWoods inhttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38242178/from/toolbar?gt1=43001.
probably not a witness - didn't see where it said - but he just took the for sale signs out of the yard, moved in, and filed strange paperwork with the county.. charged with theft of property - house was worth $380,000.. interesting, i thought, in view of the threads we had about beth sarim today..

Did the new Tom Cruise "Day & Night" movie flop?
by JWoods ina lot of comments that it basically flopped.
it came in only 3rd box office over the release weekend, grossed about 50 million.. it cost 45 million to make, (besides the big promo advertising campaign iirc).. film company execs are covering up by saying "we don't blame tom cruise" --- but ---.
i wonder if the couch-jumping scientology crazie-ness incidents (and some past bad flicks) have finally come home to roost?.

Did anyone see the History Channel episode on the Witches Hammer?
by JWoods inthis was a late medieval book printed not long after the gutenberg process became available.
it is a treatise on how to discover, question by torture, and execute witches.. it is thought that several thousand were printed over the years (maybe second only to the bible in distribution in its day) - and that this was in large part responsible for the witch hunts in europe.
the final example here in the americas - the salem witch trials.. it made me think about the jw propensity (and secret love of) all things "demonic".

Catholic Church claims Bishops not employees in Pedophilia case -
by JWoods inhttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37182162/ns/world_news-europe/?gt1=43001.
almost taking a page from the watchtower.
the case being brought claims to have found a "smoking gun" document in which the church advises to maintain secrecy in sex abuse cases involving the clergy.. the vatican is hoping to avoid financial liability by saying the bishops "act on their own"..

Did anyone see the top predators program on Animal Planet?
by JWoods init was on last night here in dallas: one hour, showing four top predators - the peregrine falcon, the african crocodile, the great white shark, and the cheetah.
very detailed explanations of their special adaptations to be what they are in nature.. some examples - the falcon has unbelievable eyesight and flight ability - it can see pigeons in flight a mile away and can dive on them at 200mph+.. the cheetah can run at 70 mph, the shark has specialized electrical sensing organs that can zero in on prey animals when it closes its eyes to make the final strike.
the crocodile can exist in suspended animation and eat only once a year.. my point is this: witnesses still insist, as far as i know, that all these predators were vegans before the flood, and will be vegans in the new system.

Does the Bible actually and specifically teach an eternal Earth paradise?
by JWoods indisclaimer - i have left behind all the jw and other religious speculation on this and am now a non-religious scientific thinker on the subject.. so, for me - earth is the planet we live on.
both earth and all of us have a finite lifetime - and it is up to us now what we do with both.. but, as a question for exjws like myself: much is made in the jw theology of an eternal "paradise" earth.
putting aside how much scientific nonsense that may be:.

Left foot braking thread lives again...
by JWoods inok, as i promised i put up the left foot braking idea up as a thread in the driver education section of my ferrari web site.. although it died here, (and i could not find it to add this), it has lived for at least a couple of weeks over there (40 posts now).. the concensus is just about 20 to 1 that left foot braking is perfectly acceptable with an automatic on the public road - if the driver makes the effort to learn how to do it well.
((does not drag brakes, over use brakes, etc.)).
interestingly, over a dozen posters there have the paddle shift manu-matics in their cars and race them in amateur events.
