Good example of made up rules with no scriptures to back them.

If you have sex with your spouse after you find out he/she cheated on you, you cannot divorce them.
by Chemical Emotions inin the key to family happiness book, the wbts says that if you have sex with your marriage mate after they cheat on you, and you knew it, you cannot divorce them.. i was disgusted by learning that.
i only discovered this recently, but i am very angry.
what if your husand tells you that he'll keep screwing other women if you don't have sex with him?

Why Some Cannot "See" that the Bible is NOT the Word of God
by AGuest into the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you all have peace.
some of you may have recently observed some discussions regarding what... or rather, who... the word of god is, truly.
in those and other threads, some participants weren't able to grasp the difference between discussion vs. contention... and defending their own faith... and love of god and christ... vs. ramming their [mis]assumptions as to the "vengeance of god"... down others' throats.

Hope it is OK to re-post this thought, but I would like your comments Shelby. Thanks.
I have long felt that Christians put an unreasonable demand on the Bible. They often say it is the Word of God, it is inspired, it is infallable. The scriptures themselves DO NOT MAKE THIS CLAIM. The opinion of one man writing a letter to his friend Timothy is the basis of this nonsense. I think Paul was a man trying to do his best, however he nowhere claims HIS writings are inspired scripture. Luke was writing a history that he had to gather from other sources hell - he told us he was NOT inspired. (Luke and Acts). The ONLY NT book that claims inspiration is Revelation..... a book written 60,70, 100 years after Christ died? In the very first Scripture list is was given the same place as the Apocalypse of Peter. (Muratorian fragment c. 100a.d.) In 100 they didn't HAVE a bible. "The Shepherd of Hermes" was a more accepted book than many they accept today.
For me the beleif goes - Creator provides spark of life and conciousness of man. Something the Genesis account represents VERY loosely. Beyond that - I think it is possible - even Likely that the law was from God or at least created under his influence. Thus the revealed god.
Was Jesus a heavenly personage transfered to human life or a man adopted to be THE son of God? Not sure - evidence is lacking. If Jesus spoke to me directly would I even know it? Would I go get medicated as a psychotic or would I think I was chosen? Not sure honestly.
Guess it is all part of the Journey but I would love some input Shelby.

The Trinity
by The Quiet One ini have a question, primarily for trinitarians, but anyone's more than welcome to comment.
what scriptural basis is there for believing in the trinity?
i can understand some having the view that jesus/jehovah both can be worshipped, and the view that jesus should be, but where in the bible is the holy spirit worshipped?

Quiet one - Thanks for the thread we do it alot but still one of my favorites.
You'll see on page one - trying to make the arguement the "personification" of the Holy Spirit. This is a strawman arguement. Both sides attack it and both win in their own mind. The fact is the HS is often "personified" as "he" "him" or having feelings being hurt etc... However HE is never God. This issue makes no difference to me.
For me it is simple. One scripture could be wrong (either the writer or the translation) however the overall relationship is ALWAYS Father and Son. Jesus is the son of God. God is THE Father. It was given to us to understand - One gives life to the other and is superior.
Unlike JWs and others I do believe Jesus is everything his Father is. The only differences are eternity and position. That is what Father/Son means. My son is 4" taller than me and could woop my ass, but I am still the father. He is everything I am. He has my power, my intelligence, my abilities, but not my age or position. I gave life to him, but he is only inferior in position not in quality or substance.
You will not find 1 scripture - reasonably translated - that diagrees with this understanding.
Or let me know if you can.....

WTWizard - I agree that it is just like the scenario you presented. If a company or agency changes thier policies you either change with it or leave. When I first moved to my town it was dry - no alcohol at all - now they sell beer and wine at all the grocery stores. If someone who was hired while they were dry was offended by the change -so what? Do they get to keep there job if they refuse to check out people who come thru their line with beer?

Apostate jokes:
by SixofNine inan ex-jw walks into a bar and orders three mugs of bud.
he sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn.
when he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.. the bartender approaches and tells the ex-jw, "you know, a mug goes flat after i draw it.

So what do ya'll think about the recent new light?
by stillin9 inyou know, the thing they were talking about in the 2011 dc.
it was about how the "toes" of daniel's image no longer represent all the individual governments that have come around in human history.
and that the anglo-american world power is the last world power we'll see before the end of the system of things.

Went to the DC today...
by dontplaceliterature ini caught the entire session today, and strangely, it was the first time i was able to stay completely alert for an entire dc program.
i'm guessing the reason for that is that i was looking at the program with a critical eye for the first time in my life and was not being hypnotised by mind-numbing repitition (see steve hassen's combatting cult mind control).
the program wasn't that bad.

Dontplace - I thought the same thing about that poor Kid. It sounded ridiculous.... I guess they can't use an unbaptized pub on the Drama? This kid's voice was 5-6 for sure.
Lots of comedy material. If it didn't screw people it would be funny,.......

Telling a Depressed Person It's Demons!
by NewChapter inwhen a person is depressed, their cognitive abilities are depleted.
they are processing reality through a very negative filter and need help getting balanced.
they often experience fear, guilt, hopelessness and anxiety.

My wife is Bi-polar and medicated. An elder was removed many years ago for trying to "treat" her. At least JWs (officially) recognize depression now. for decades they called it "not trusting in Jah" because Joy is fruit of the spirit. Many still have that view thogh their "official" position has changed.

Wow, I thought you might be my step-son. If you're having a pool party tomorrow PM me . If not Believe me I was removed as an elder - for no real reason. I fought it and was reinstated. My wife wanted to move cong. because of how she was treated, then they didn't recommend me for appointment. No prob for me. I was told by CO that I could "keep doing what I was doing" and I waould be reappointed soon. I told them NO THANKS. No more elder - no more hypocrisy. (not that all elders are bad some I love very much).
All peace to you bro.
