Why did you choose Jehovahs Witnesses?
by vinman ini'm wondering why ones on this forum initially became jw's.
if you were born in, why did you make it "your own"?
if you became one later, what was your draw and driving force?

I'm 3rd gen, born-in, never baptized. I have a very analytical, logical mind which cannot work in a world that accepts myth and fantasy as reality and fact. -

Disfellowshipping by Jehovah’s Witnesses: A Brief History - Great article
by defender of truth indespite the governing bodys best efforts, members do leave the faith.
the governing body insists there is no valid reason for leaving the religion.
in fact, their brand new brochure, return to jehovah, lists only three reasons why someone might leave the religion: misplaced guilt, being mad at a witness, and being busy with life.. but of course, there are several valid reasons for walking away from the faith, all of which are much more damning than the sanitized reasons the watchtower society lists.

Heaven - "...I suspect it works well enough that Botchtower won't stop using it until it becomes illegal."
Vidiot said: Hmph.
As if that would stop them.
Vidiot, you may be correct. However, my statement is based on Geoffrey 'That's not my area of expertise' Jackson's position during the ARC that secular authorities have to make reporting of child rape mandatory in order to force JW's to actually do this. Perhaps laws need to be enacted on all the negative, harmful doctrines of Botchtower. -

In Ontario, Canada, the prices are pretty similar for 'private' seniors residences to the ones you quoted in the OP. Prices go up depending on how many services you want. There are also seniors apartments available that aren't that bad.
If you require a nursing home, these are subsidized by the government. A basic room is under $2,000 a month. If you do not have the basic amount, the government further subsidizes on an individual basis.

Update on sisters threatened with rape
by Xanthippe inyesterday i had an email from amnesty international about the two sisters in an indian village who were sentenced by the village elders to be raped as a punishment for their brother falling in love with a woman from another hindu caste and eloping with her.. amnesty do a great deal of good work but the real force is individuals who sign the petitions and send letters and emails to political leaders.
people power folks, it really works.
for those of us who signed the petition and the rest of the over 300,000 people who did, meenakshi and her young sister thank you.

Anthony Morris explains how God gives Decrees to man! New video edit.
by Wasanelder Once ini took the most recent video on "obey" and edited it down to its core.
here tony explains that the decisions of the faithful slave are arrived at "collectively" but are not a "collection" of man made decisions.
it would be comical if it weren't so sad.. tony video.

Hi dot, thanks for posting this.
Such shunning serves to strengthen and protect the group. Not only does it remove burdensome members, but it can correct deviant behavior in such members because they will long to return to normal relationships with their former associates.
While shunning is a method that works to coerce some people, it doesn't work with me. I have NEVER been anyone who grovels after someone's attention, even from my family. If people don't want me around, I don't come around. So shunning is not a method that works all the time with all people. But I suspect it works well enough that Botchtower won't stop using it until it becomes illegal.

Welcome pureginseng. I am glad you are feeling better. Eating healthfully is very important.
I am one year older than your Mom.
It is quite difficult to realize the belief system we were brought up in is not 100% The Truth. Keeping your family is very important as long as they are loving. My parents were misled and sometimes mean-spirited towards me and my brothers but I knew it was the religion talking and not their authentic selves.
Try to have a plan for your future and your life. Living someone else's plan will not work well... you will not be happy. I think it is a good start to want to learn English.
What are you passionate about?

Wow... thx Villiage Idiot. From that video Elaine Riccaboni was basically threatened that taking a blood transfusion would not allow here to survive Armageddon and therefore, she would not have ever lasting life!
So glad she and her husband didn't listen to those clowns.
My former team lead worked with a guy who sold his house and quit his job because 1975 would bring Armageddon. I suspect this man had to get a new job and acquire accomodation again.
The interesting part of all of this is how Botchtower handles their errors. They certainly don't man up to them but rather, repeatedly, blame their members. What a bunch of a-holes!

half banana said: Jesus failed miserably in his prophecy as have all subsequent notions of extending further dates to it.
When I was younger, I used to be wonder why the Jews didn't follow and accept Jesus as their Messiah and saviour.
The only conclusion I could come up with was he had to have been viewed as some sort of nutbag.
Just like how we view present day people claiming to be Jesus/the Messiah.

Need Help with Blood Transfusion Illustration
by Dissonant15 inplease, who can provide an intelligent rebuttal to the following illustration?
i always thought it was bullet-proof:.
"if your doctor directs you to 'abstain from alcohol' would you be ok to have it injected into your veins rather than drink it?

Alcohol and blood are not the same substance. You do not circulate alcohol in your circulatory system to stay alive. But you do circulate blood. Without blood, you will not live.
