About this 'imitating Jesus' idea....
I am completely uninterested in this. The guy is dead! I am not ready to be dead just yet.
i saw a rumor a few weeks ago on reddit that the new imitate jesus convention is supposed to present new light and clarified understandings on the disfellowshipping/disassociation practices.. supposedly, if this rumor has any truth to it, there will be a talk given at the convention about how we should not be strict like the pharisees in how we shun people, loosening up some of the jw rules about this practice.. has anyone here heard anything about this or have more info on it?.

imagine that the cult decided to stop shunning family members on the proviso that the dfd person was not actively trying to attack the cult.. (please don't debate whether or not this is likely - it's hypothetical).
how would you respond to your family?.
personally i think i would be less than cooperative.
IF they changed their policy and IF your family wanted to be your friend again how would you react?
I would be cautiously optimistic. In reality, my life is very, very busy without them. I have more than enough family and friends I am in contact with regularly that, luckily, not having the JW family in my life (with the exception of my parents) hasn't affected me much, if at all.
The JWs is my family are on my Mom's side. They have next to nothing to do with me except when necessary family business forces them to. They are overall nice people but are mislead.
My parents became mean-spirited, self-righteous, holier-than-thou a-holes with us kids in their zealous days (this was during the 1990s). They did not shun us outright but they did withdraw somewhat during that period. Luckily, none of us kids ever got baptized.
The JW belief that they are "God's Chosen'', which elevates them above everyone else, would probably surface repeatedly with my other JW family members as it used to with my parents. I would not be able to tolerate that.
arguing with my husband again, i asked where is the proof that jesus looked down on earth in 1919 and chose a small group of bible students in america apart from them saying it in their magazines.
also where is the proof that satan and his demons were cast down in 1914 just because first world war started.
neither of these things are in the bible only in their magazines.

This is the requirement for all religion. In order to have faith, one must leave reason and logic behind. Evidence and the demand for such are religion's nemesis.
"i can't wait to meet abraham" was the eager comment made by a young 7 year old witness girl.. when asked why, she said "because he was jehovahs friend, and he was even willing to kill his own son!".
this comment was said with joy and excitement!
she can't see the obvious issues with this?.
Abraham... the same guy who committed adultery with his house servant in order to get a child. Then booted her and her child into the desert. Yeah, I so want to me this a-hole too... NOT!
allow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.
i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.
some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).
“There is no polite way to suggest to someone that they have devoted their life to a folly.” - Daniel Dennett
when my niece was very little (over 20 years ago), barely walking or talking, my mother decided to teach her "where jehovah lives".
she would coach her and say, "where does jehovah live?
" in a sing-song voice.
Soooo.... Jehovah dwells in the Seven Sisters. Hmmm .. this seems rather fornicationist to me.
so since the type anti-type doctrine has been dropped 'does this mean peter was right when at luke 12 :41 he said the faithful and discreet slave was just a parable?
'

I agree. I think long term JWs are having more and more issues remaining strong in the faith when stuff like this happens. Also, the videos they are putting out these days aren't helping either. The GB members do not come across well in these.
okay, it seems that there are few movie buffs on here.. irrespective, i "loved" all of the mad max movies (yeah, mel drunkenly said shit, wtf, his work means nothing ???
).
n'importe-quoi (no matter what) those low-budget movies were awesome.. respect !!!
Definitely a Mad Max fan here. Loved the original movies when they came out. Will likely see the new one. Hopefully Tom Hardy isn't as much of a jerk as Mel. Gibson, well, he isn't perfect and may require meds but he isn't the only person in the world like this. I suspect his Catholic background coupled with his stardom helped create the a$$hole he seems to be.

we (and by 'we', i mean my wife) decided that we should try something new and she, erm, i mean 'we', liked the idea of painting.
so i enthusiastically (i.e.
begrudgingly) went along for the night to the "pain nite" event she'd booked us for a couple of weeks ago.. the premise is pretty simple: it's held in a pub or restaurant, all the art supplies are provided, the instructor then walks you through how to reproduce a painting they have chosen for the night and you have a glass of wine or beer, do some painting, have something to eat, have some more wine, more painting, more wine, realize you are drinking the dirty paint water and so on.. here's the site: https://www.paintnite.com/.
A neat exercise to do while drawing or painting is creating something using free association.
Setup your materials, clear your mind, and then just start drawing or painting.
I have only done this once back when I was a teenager. This was the result [ sorry for the creases... it's really old ;0) ]:
