True equality for women, and men, cannot exist in a world where blame is always placed upon Eve.

Not to derail this thread, but, I have tried to look this info up and verify this and can't: I have got pulled over twice in the last few months for speeding. The officers were coming from a different direction and guestimated that I was speeding. I was going to a store, saw them as they saw me, down shifted and turned into the parking lot of said store. I found a parking spot and started to get out of my car. The officer, with flashing lights was behind me immediately.
Which meant, both times, they came speeding through a packed parking lot to get me. They demanded my insurance and license and looked my info up, they told me I was going "53 in a 40 MPH zone". I expressed shock. (I was going 65 when I down shifted, having just passed someone-three lanes, plus turning lane, very light traffic at 9 AM on Saturday, I hit the gas a little too hard. :-) ).
Neither time was I ticketed. I was told to be more careful. Sternly. Angerily.
A co-worker told me that it was because I had turned onto private property. HUH?!
Could it be this simple? Do I only have to turn into a driveway or a store to not receive a ticket next time?

Very annoying.
Even more annoying: Those ads for the company that sells security for your ID. I've blocked the name, I hate it so much. The company owner used to put his own s/s number out there until someone stole it and used it to open a credit card number to show his company wasn't that great. And, they were sued recently. I HATE those commercials. I turn off the TV.
I've started listening to my iPod now. 80's and 90's music is preferable.

with susposedly the best healthcare in the world (for those who can afford it), the last study i saw ranked the usa at number 38 in the world.
yet, we spend 4, 5 or even 10 times more per person on health care than most others.. what gives ???.
If you have a Mercedes, brand new, and never change the oil the car will break down really quick and become a pile of worthless metal. Same with your body.
Two quick stories: My MIL, last year died of lung cancer. She had stage 4, so advanced, that even doing chemo and/or radiation was a waste of resources. (as we know now, being clear headed). The Doctor, seeing $$$, came in the middle of the night to her hospital room, and told her that she should have chemo and it would give her another 3-4 months to live. Complete and utter BS. The chemo killed her. Without a doubt. She was dead after one chemo round in two weeks. She would have lived for at least another 1-2 months without.
The bill for chemo? $60,000. That is correct. $60,000. All billed to Medicare. Just for the chemo. One round.
We, the American public paid for the corrupt Doctor to kill her, effectively. Yes, she was at deaths door, however, the Doctor shoved her through for cash. And, we, not having a clue that Chemo would kill her quicker, stood by and watched. Sadly.
Secondly, my mother has tried and tried to get a skin condition fixed. She has gone to three different doctors. They have said it was Shingles, then Ezecma, then a general rash. WTF!!!!! How can it be all of those?! There are tests. Tests for f-ing gods sake.
However, her, being on Medicare, with a backup plan, keeps going and going to get it cleared up. And we, the American public, keeps picking up the tab.
It's still is not cleared up. It keeps coming back BTW. The Doctors are complete f-ups. Or, they don't care. And, she is afraid to go on the Web and investigate and read what I send her because of DEMONS!!!! (WTS of course, told her that)
So, when the Medicare scam is pouring money and dollars into the pockets of Doctors, that is one problem. Why would Doctors and the healthcare costs go down when the pool of money is just there for the taking? It is too tempting.
When *I* go to the Doctor, on my standard, work issued insurance plan, *I* get grilled left, right and in-between on why I'm there, am I really sick and how to get it done in one visit. How to not get me back and how to have me fixed in that visit and not come back.
Why? Seems clear. It is a lot easier to commit Medicare fraud. And, a lot earier to push through a bill. If I go back, the Doc has to justify the billing with the insurance company. (I think)
I very rarely go to the Doctor. Once a year to get my meds for the year. Unless something I can't figure out on my own. I monitor my blood pressure, I get my blood checked, etc., however, I figure, I can check lots of stuff on my own. I have decided that they don't have time or really care. They are there to process me like a piece of sausage and I am one more piece to put on a bun and put out the door.
Eat healthy, exercise and try to get important stuff checked. Hopefully I won't die too young.

I don't think it as much to do with availabillity of healthcare so much to do with getting off their fat butts and stopping the bad habits. It is hard to give up french fries and all that greasy crap. It is hard to start a running program. It is hard to start an exercise program.
It is a lot easier to go to the doctor, say you're doing all of the above when you're not and go back home, flop on the sofa and eat a bucket of KFC.
How do I know? I listen to my Mom talk and then do the above.
Then I tell her I'm going for a run and she can't understand how I do it or why.
So, she has high cholestrol and all kinds of other issues.
Just like all millions of other Americans who sit on their butts and justify eating a multi-vitamin and say that walking to the car in the parking lot counts as exercise.

i am, along with my wife, trying to find creative ways to lower our sodium intake.
the aha recommends a diet consisting of less than 1500 mg of sodium daily - yet most americans eat at least twice that.
i believe now, having spent most of a morning looking through grocer shelves to determine sodium levels, that twice the level might actually be a very low estimate.
I love salt. I put salt on all my food. I have low BP, always have. Luckily. I have started watching because my husbands is high. I have to stop for him and watch what I put in and on everything. So, I have tried eating stuff without and with no salt.
That is tough. On the plus side is less water retention. Food tastes like crap, but less water. There is always a bright side.
