How do you feel now? EVOLUTION OR CREATION??
by chuckyy inas jws we were no doubt staunch creationists.
but how do you feel now??
do you still opt for creation or do you now feel evolution offers the right answer.

I believe in evolution, because it makes the most sense. Unfortunately, it is extremely misrepresented by religion, mostly along the lines of "It's only a theory", where the word "theory" is not defined as science uses it. Creationism is pretty much mythology, and intelligent design seems to be a politically motivated idea designed to keep both creationists and those in favor of evolution happy, thus helping people get elected to the Board of Education. It seriously upsets me when they refuse to teach evolution in public schools here without concurrently teaching intelligent design. Talk about confusing your children! I think I live in the only state in the US where it is legally required to be like that, and it is downright embarrassing.

Do You Clearly Understand That "The Truth" Is Nothing But Bullcrap?
by minimus inwhat a waste of living being "in the truth" was!
sometimes i see persons suggesting that the witness religion isn't all so wrong.
actually they suggest that they themselves are the issue.

I used to be a pretty hardcore drug addict. It's not something I'm proud of, but I think some interesting parallels can be drawn between it and what the topic in this thread has morphed into.
Having been a born-in, I was obviously screwed in the head from a young age, and when I was a teenager, after I left the JW's, I started clinging to whomever would accept my company. In general, drug addicts will consider anyone their friend (as long as they have drugs)--getting high by yourself gets kind of boring, and since many people don't do drugs, your choice of associations can be rather limited. So, bad associations, etc. You've all heard the story a million times. I let myself be led WAY astray. Because normal people didn't really seem to understand the whole JW thing, and I didn't understand normal people.
One thing that was great about being into drugs was all the friends you had, all the comraderie, even if it was kind of twisted. The fact that you could go just about anywhere and kind of know people before you met them--some things are universal, and the habits surrounding drug addiction is one of them. It helped me with my social skills. It taught me marketing skills. It taught me to stand up for myself. But, eventually, I reached a point in my life where I said to myself, "How the hell did I fall so far? I f**cked up my life!" I knew then I had to quit.
I said goodbye to all my addict friends, realizing no matter how much I enjoyed their company, how much I shared in common with them, hanging out with them was destroying me, and watching me destroy myself was destroying those that really loved me.
So I quit using, and although it was very hard at first, it's much better now. I no longer depend on a substances to make me happy; I've found other things to be interested in. I went back to the university, graduated even. I have a decent job now, and my friends, although fewer, aren't "friends". They are friends.
JW's are a lot like a drug addiction. It doesn't really feel that great to get high after you've been doing it for a long time, but the prospect of stopping and facing what you've done to yourself becomes much worse in your mind than to continue. "The Truth" is just as much bullcrap as drugs are, if not more, so if you are thinking of judging me for having been a drug addict, don't.
Would anyone say that a drug addiction is not "wrong" and destructive? To stop smoking, cigarettes or drugs, is good. So is to stop JW'ing.
I guess the biggest difference between JW's and drugs is that when you stop doing drugs, your family is much more likely to accept you than shun you.

Triple Bypass Surgery -- Blood?
by gloobster ini'm worried about my uncle--he's going in for triple bypass surgery on wednesday, and he is still a devout jw, and therefore will refuse blood.
does anyone know anything about this type of surgery?
obviously it's major surgery, although it's much more routine than it used to be.

So, why do you really hate the Roman Catholic Church?
by StAnn inthis is actually a serious question.. when i was a jw, i was taught all kinds of things about how horrible the rcc is.
i believed it.
many years after leaving the wts, i began looking into the rcc for myself and discovered that everything i had been told about the rcc by the wts was a lie.

Hitler could never have come to power and waged the Second World War had Pope Pious not given his and the Catholic Church’s full support.
The book “Hitler’s Pope” proves that beyond doubt.
That's a great book, I read it a while back.
Pope Pius XII did not give Hitler his full support as much as he just tacitly agreed to not intervene with the Holocaust, as long as Catholics weren't affected. Which, of course, they eventually were. Most people who gave Hitler their support did so out of fear, and the Vatican was no exception.
I guess it could be viewed as "full support", but the Pope wasn't exactly like, "Go kill Jews!"

The whole "papal infallibility" doctrine kind of pisses me off. Much like the Governing Body infallibility doctrine present in the WTS, except Catholics don't change their minds as much.
That said, I love their churches and all the rituals and whatnot--absolutely beautiful stuff. Much more exciting(?) than the Memorial. And a much fancier cup thingy for the wine.

Reading Steve Hassan's Book. WOW!
by White Dove inhassan's book is helping me so much in letting go and not being affraid of being found out by the jw's here in "greenland.
" .
what amazing information about how the jw's compare to other high control groups and cults.. he hasn't even mentioned the jw's, so far.. it is helping me so much in gaining my confidence and not worrying about what jw's preach about the end of the world, and such.. i love this book!.
