Yes, this sort of spewing can ruin anything, can't it? It's a subtle form of "preaching the good news", & it is i

They are making me mental!
by CeriseRose inno, not jws (although if i think too long about it, i'm sorely tempted to decorate my car a la christmas and park it at the kh during a meeting... *evil grin* ).
i belong to a 'non-religious' message board (have since 2001) that seems to have a large proportion of newly-arrived christians on it.
normally, i could care less if they're there; the topic is not religion, there's plenty of places to post that don't even smack of religion.

I don't believe in hitting kids either. But consistency is best, & not making the kid/kids feel that they are the center of the universe is best. Kids are spokes in the wheel, the main hub should be the parents.

Don't do this! My mother becdame a jw when I was 13, & I had one hell of a time. I refused to go back after age 15.5. But this meant that I was not allowed to participate in sports, had to sneak to the mall with my real, "worldly" friends & it was just a total hassle. I was NOT priority, I was about numberm 10 on the list!
So I spoiled my daughter. Made sure she had the nice clothes, all the lessons her heart desired, to my financial detriment sometimes. I became a taxi. In some ways, it did her good. She was excellent at a number of sports & was the president of her senior class. This all helped her get a better deal at college. But at times, it was a hardship on us, financially & just physically.
But it also was a hard lesson for her to learn that now she lives in a dorm, om isn't going to do all her running of errrands, & she is sort of another brick in the wall now. Her personality caused her to once again be involved in student government, sports, etc. at college, but she did have to awaken to reality there.
Don't spoil your kids! You can overcompensate for your crappy jw childhood way too much, & teach the kids a different, wrong lesson. Just be reasonable in your approach. I have another xjw friend that was raised in the cult, & she has a daughter the same age as mine, did the same thing, & has had some trouble too. That kid is turning out good now also, but we inadvertantly caused our kids some problems by overcompensating.

A letter is a good idea. Set the terms of YOUR boundaries & expectations, if you decide to re-open this at all. You can let him know what you will & will not find acceptable treatment, etc. & if he doesn't want to play by your rules, well...

What's your worst Turkey disaster? ... or Food disaster?
by BrendaCloutier inthere were those baked cookies and baked pumpkin pies for a friend's tg dinner that i tried to do one night while drunk.
i turned on the timer and passed out, totally missing the timer.
the cookies looked like charcoal brickettes!

Oh shoot Stef, I did that recently with a bbq grill. A huge fireball came flying out & burned all the hair off my arm. scared the crap outta me. My husband came flying over & I said "well, I won't be doing THAT again". Funny now, but I gave up lighting the thing ever again!

You DON'T Have To Listen To The Elders If They Say They Want To Meet ....
by minimus ineveryone that is in the process of leaving dreads the thought of having the elders approach them, call them, etc.
the fact is----just because they say they want to meet with you or just because 2 elders stop by to visit you----you don't have to deal with them at all.
simply tell them you won't meet with them, you won't talk to them.

I would never particiipate in their head games. Tell them to take their kangaroo court to someone who believes in their voodoo.

Do You Feel A Spiritual Void?
by minimus inis there a "need" on your part to regain some form of spirtuality?
at this point in time, do you not want to hear anything about god, the bible, jesus, buddah, etc.?????
are you still "searching"?

No, and I don't feel the need to worship anything either. I am happy, & I don't look for problems or reasons to be dissatisfied & make myself miserable the way I have seen some people do.

LOL, I never had one that I can think of, but I did think my husband's story is funny.
His mother set the table & was taking food & putting it on the table. Somehow during that activity, the German Shepard snuck up & absconded with the entire roast. They all sat down & there was no roast, & no sign of the dog!

Before You Leave The Witnesses, You MUST Make New Friends!!!
by minimus inmy advice to anyone that is thinking of leaving the "organization" is to make friends (real friends) with people other than jehovah's witnesses.
the sad truth is that jws are only conditional "friends".
they will drop you like a hot potato if they think you want to leave.

Those were some excellent suggestions Franklin! First, a person has to figure out who they are & what they like, before they can find healthy things to do & people to surround themselves with. There are also clubs, dog & cat shows & their patrons, gyms to work out in, Hiking & biking clubs, there are tons of places to make new friends, but it takes effort.
Min, you have outdone yourself this time
