  i have a feeling i am going to have to explain to my jw folks why i have decided to allow my children to participate in holidays at school.

  theyll probably be wondering too why i will get together with our non jw family for the holidays.. .

  we know jws avoid holidays because of their pagan origins.

  There aren't many things that you can't trace back to "pagan origin" .

  Somewhere, some time in the past, whatever it is, you will find that "pagans" were either doing, using or saying the same things.

  i was speaking to my mom on the phone yesterday, and despite my trying to avoid it, we got to talking about wacky jw topics -- again.

  actually, it was nearly unavoidable, since she had just returned from her summer convention.

  aside: nice way to celebrate your wedding anniversary, mom & dad; at an assembly!

  I stopped attending meeting in August 1999. Waited for the Elders to call. Nothing.

  I did not even get an invitation to the Memorial the following year either.

  It was September 2001 before any Elder called.

  Then it was because they were having a campaign to get "inactive" ones back, because of falling numbers.

  Soit was not out of any concern for me that they called, I was just a number.

  Thats when I decided to DA .

  So since September 2001 up to now, I have not had any contact with any Elders whatsoever.

  my whole life, even when i pioneered, i dreaded field service.

  i was always uncomfertable rolling up to peoples houses uninvited.

  so i used to have this technique where i would pretend to ring the bell.

  Yeah did all that even when I was an MS. Hated FS.

  Mind you by the time I left we practically didn't have to pretend any more.

  We hardly ever got anyone in.

  I recall many years ago asking a JW who was a barrister and an Elder (surprise) why had he become a JW.

  He said because basically he didn't have to think about what was taught. The WT (FDS) provided what he needed to know. If some teaching was wrong then it was not his fault. Besides it would probably be corrected at some point.

  i had 2 nice ladies come to the door this morning.

  i played it very cool as long as i could, asking "dumb" questions like what ever happened to your 1914 generation teaching?

  i knew it could only go so far and sure enough they began to smell a dirtyratcat.

  You don't have to be an apostate ex-JW to have the same reaction.

  A friend of mine had two JW brothers call. He started asking the same type of questions and the two JWs practically ran for it.

  He asked !Whats up? Can't you defend your own beliefs."

  But they were outthe gate and away down the road.

  Is being searched by your employer EVERY day legal?

  i am in the middle of induction training for a new job at a local store that is one of the uk's largest hardware stores.. today we were told it was company policy that every staff member is searched everyday before they leave the shop.

  you cannot, under any circumstances leave the store until you have been searched both your bag and person and sometimes you car also searched.. your handbag has to be emptied and searched, your pockets have to be emptied and you have to take off whatever clothes you are told to take off including shoes, roll up your shirt above waist level if you are a woman and loosen the waist band of your trousers.. if i am right, even the police are not permitted to search anyone without due cause and i already feel 'violated' at the thought that i will have to go through this humiliation everyday.

  this shop basically sells toiletries, garden stuff etc and insist that half of their theft if from staff.. however, we were also told that shoplifters cannot be stopped unless they have been followed all round the store and their is 100% knowledge that they have stolen something as a stop and search would get the store into terrible trouble.. so, am i correct in thinking that these people are going to violate my human rights every day!.

  I work security for one of the biggest companies in the UK.

  It is a provision of employment that employees can be asked to be searched, but they MUST be asked first.

  We do random searches and a certain percentage a day, of 1 in 5. Of persons and vehicles.

  If it is a search of a person they must be taken somewhere private, and MUSThave a witness present.

  Plus the search must be recorded on camera.

  A person will be requested to empty their pockets and any bag they are carrying.

  Only a male can search a male, and a female a female.

  We use a metal detecting wand, as we are not allowed to touch the person.

  The section of the plant were I am at present has nowhere were we can take a person to be searched therefore we cannot carry out any personal searches, only of vehicles.

  Being searched every day seems excessive for the place you work. Random searches would be the norm.

  I did when doing security for a firm that dealt in gold and jewelery.

  I have a friend who did work for a large well known DIY store and they did not search staff everyday, only randomly.

  Biggest cause of theft was from customers.

  If the firm you work for says half its theft is by staff. Yet they are doing searches everyday then obviously its not the staff.

  my wife excitedly told me that she talked to the wife of an elder that just came back from.

  the special training for elders in upper state new york and that the elders are being told .

  to go back to their congregations and to get them ready for the great tribulation.. i said to her that is great news !!!!

  As someone said above isn't it the point that every JW should always be ready for the Great Tribulation.

  The thing is they have to keep saying it more and more nowadays.

  Because they never thought they would still be here this long.

  Another 6 years and it will be 100 years since Christ came in 1914.

  Will they target that year ? As a possible time.

  Does the WT know that as 2014 approaches that its members will be expecting something.

  Then when nothing happens. Is it their fear that members will start to drop off as another date falls by the wayside.

  The older generation of JWs are getting weary and dying off.

  The younger generation are getting less and less because they are leaving. Even the very young generation are now deciding that they do not want to be JWs.

  Yes the Great Tribulation is coming. But it could just be for the Watchtower organisation.

  The closest I've known a JW come to such groups was two JW brothers who were in the police.

  What struck me odd over this was at the time I thought JWs couldn't be in the police. As in the UK they have to swear an oath to serve the Queen. But I was told they had become JWs while they were police officers. So why weren't they asked (told) to leave the police force?

  an elder mentioned yesterday in casual conversation how the end must be close 'because this is the first time in human history that a black man will probably be president of the us.

  all other forms of government have had their day, now that a black man will be president, the angels, mankind and satan cannot claim that jehovah didn't give every possible chance for humans to make it without his rulership'.

  This is one of the best "reasons" (I use the word loosely, as JWs can't reason) for "the end" being close, that I have heard.

  He would have said the same thing if Hilary Clinton had been nominated. A woman in charge!!

  Hey1 We've had a woman Prime Minister in UK . Mind you, some thought that was the end

  I suppose if McCain is elected he will say that Jehovah has postponed the end.

  Do JWs these days have a room in Brooklyn were they churn out these idiotic thoughts?
