Dishonesty - The Awake's selective quotation concerning Carbon-14 Dating
by VM44 inhere is how the awake!
reported on a news story concerning the "inaccuracies" in carbon-14 dating.
compare it with the actual new york times article from where the story was obtained.

Creationists often think Carbon-14 dating is the only dating method used. They also 'forget' that science is always moving ahead, improving and making new discoveries all the time.
This results in guys like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlym0q5TLVI&mode=related&search=
*WARNING* This video is embarrassing to watch if you know anything about... anything. *WARNING*
Funny enough, this video is put up there by creationists, and they don't see how embarrassing it is, so it's still up there.

Darwin plagurised the 'evolution' idea from the ancient egyptians and possibly other ancient mythological beliefs who believed that the human race had evolved from plants.
-Way to give rabid creationists reason to say the theory of evolution comes from pagan religions (and therefore Satan)... You make it sound like Darwin read a book on ancient beliefs and decided "Wow - this sounds cool; I think I'll elaborate a bit and put my name on it".
Darwin was not alone in thinking along the lines of evolution. Wallace almost beat him to it, but since Darwin had more research and a more fully formed theory, Wallace agreed that Darwin should publish his work instead. Darwin's work is chock full of examples of artificial selection (mankind breeding plants and animals to keep desired traits and remove unwanted traits) and natural selection (especially perhaps the famous Galapagos finches). Added to that came the fossil record (although spotty at the time). People (naturalists) were beginning to realize that instant creation of each 'kind' did not add up; not only Charles Darwin. Even Darwin's grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, who believed in a creator or First Cause, wrote about evolution in some detail. Charles Darwin came up with the mechanism natural selection though. Several others, like Lamarck, had had differing hypothesis about evolution that have since been abandoned.
So evolution was not like a bolt of lightening from a clear sky suddenly hitting Charles Darwin's head, but at the same time I think it would be very simplistic (and wrong) to say that he plagiarized the idea from ancient religions, who instead of serious scientific judgment as a base for their ideas probably had more of a "point-and-guess" approach. If one really wants to, one can contort and twist the Genesis story to say that it is actually a story of evolution too. I think an equal amount of twisting would be necessary of the other ancient stories (like Norse mythology), to come to the conclusion that Darwin plagiarized them when he came up with his theory of evolution through natural selection.

Fairy tale characters / Bible characters
by LtCmd.Lore inthe day to day life of a bible character is pretty similar to that of a character right out of a grimms fairy tale.. witches are a real threat.
you can go down to the local spiritist and get really useful information.
you have your magic pots that constantly contain food, if that fails you can count on a bird to bring you food.

Creationists are still using examples that have been debunked for decades (and sometimes use examples of evolution that has nothing to do with Darwinian evolution, and in fact predates it), so I guess now they and IDers are going to use these examples for the next hundred years or so, despite them having been debunked. I mean that seriously - we'll hear this crap for decades to come.
I thought being honest was a religious virtue. How about being intellectually honest, and honest with the members of one's church? Why advocate idiocy, lack of education, misrepresentation of evidence and outright lying to further one's cause? Do they want to be idiots? Do they want their church members to be idiots? Perhaps they do. I know I'm mad for having been fed crap about science growing up as a Witness.
As for the trolls... Nah, not gonna feed them.

To all those who support Evolution EXPLAIN this....
by Blackboo inthink about this and close your eyes...think about what it is to have no existence for all existence..and nothing for all existence...notice how u cannot have both at the same time lol!
that is crazy!
that means if there was nothing for all existence..then it has to remain that way..and even if some particles or energy exploded to give life to earth and the planets..it still does not make sense to believe that a explosion can design humans or animals...thats just like saying i am gonna get a another house out of a explosion!

I declined to reply to the other thread because I knew that if I gave a concise and detailed reply there (which would take me quite a while to form), the same or similar questions would come up only days later, so it's no use.
Well, whadda'ya know... Didn't think it would be by the same poster, though.
Anyway - I hope Blackboo is parodying creationists. I know the location says 'Texas', but really. Parody or not, it's getting old already though.
The creationist concept of evolution can't explain much and is illogical, that's correct. Actual evolution theory can explain lots of things and is logical.
I 'was' Blackboo 15 - 20 years ago though, so I guess I shouldn't be too harsh. Read a book or two. It helps.

''This good news will be preached and then the end will come.''
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmatthew 24:14 (new american standard bible).
14"this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
i'm sure everyone of us preached the ''good news'' when we were faithful to the wts.

"This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Yes - first the good news, then the bad news.
-Anyway, if memory serves me, there was New Light ™ in 1995, that Jehovah (or was it Jesus?) will do the separating of the sheep and goats at the end, not the Witnesses.

Alarming statement in today's study article in WT...
by Mickey mouse inparagraph 15: "as we get nearer to the outbreak of the great tribulation, we may well receive some detailed instructions.
our safe journey through those troublesome days will depend on our keeping in step with other loyal servants of jehovah.
" this in the context of a wt discussing the israelites' exodus from egypt and how jehovah had them into a position where there seemed "no way out".

I just realized: Could it be that we're getting ahead of ourselves; or rather, ahead of the Watchtower? What I mean is - could it be that this article is a preparation for accepting the generation change? 'Cause that WT issue hasn't been studied yet in the congregations, has it? I'm not very up do date on when the magazines are studied anymore...
Of course - the generation change wouldn't constitute 'detailed instructions', but the rest of the surrounding sentences seem to fit well as preparation for this change.

"New light"...
by Awakened07 inthis won't be a long-winded post; just a "quickie", and mostly meant for those still active:.
i find it odd that jehovah's witnesses don't find anything odd about how 'new light' is distributed.
i mean - if this new light comes from jehovah god himself, the creator of the universe and everything in it, wouldn't it be fair to say that it would happen more like in this story:.

Did they actually state this in print??? If so, where did they state this???
-It's a bit 'messy' - they claim to be spirit directed, but at the same time, they're not inspired. I don't have a quote on hand, but I'm sure someone here can come up with it.
If you trust a YouTube interview (JWs won't, so it's rather pointless in that regard), you can hear it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqX5aQ51uxM
However, the May 1st. 2007 Watchtower (page 31) states:
How should a person be viewed who has determined in his heart that he is now anointed and begins to partake of the emblems at the Memorial? He should not be judged. The matter is between him and Jehovah. (Romans 14:12) However, genuine anointed Christians do not demand special attention. They do not believe that their being of the anointed gives them special "insights," beyond what even some experienced members of the great crowd may have. They do not believe that they necessarily have more holy spirit than their companions of the other sheep have; nor do they expect special treatment or claim that their partaking of the emblems places them above the appointed elders in the congregation.

I know what your position is on this proplog2, but it's a bit besides the point of this thread, as Jehovah's Witnesses believe that their organization is the only God directed entity on earth today.
How many mistakes does JWs acknowledge that the Bible - which admittedly was penned by fallible men - has? Conversely - how many mistakes should God's only organization have in the final days before the end, arguably the most important time in mankind's history? Again - not according to your understanding of all this, but JWs own.
