  GOOD NEWS! Scientists to create human/animal embryos for research in the UK

  i know it's emotive and i know some will fundamentally disagree that this is good news at all but i believe it is.. .

  from the bbc; regulators have agreed in principle to allow human-animal embryos to be created and used for research.

  but scientists wanting to use hybrids will still need to make individual applications, the human fertilisation and embryology authority said.

  Awakened, this is just the research, any treatments that were eventually applied to patients would indeed be developed through human eggs. So why use cows eggs for the research? Because they are easily available in large numbers (cow ovaries are normally disposed of by the abbatoirs). To do the research using human eggs would be very slow and very expensive.

  Well, now that you lay it out, it's pretty obvious. * slaps self *

  Not sure where I stand on this. Too much old programming left in my brain. I think I'll support it fully with time, though.

  -I've read a couple of news articles now, but haven't found any technical explanation as to why they'd want to mix the human cell contents with an animal (cow, I think) egg 'shell' ?

  What are the technical benefits to doing it this way? Why does this work better than using the human cells 100%? Easier to extract stem cells? But why/how?

  once when i was returning from work i decided to take a short cut home.

  it was the halloween week and ppl had their houses decked out.

  i turned into a dark road that has a house just every so often.

  I actually have a rather good example of something "supernatural" that happened to me, that wasn't supernatural at all:

  I used to have a rather large mirror on the wall in my hallway, and so every day before I left the apartment, I'd see myself in that mirror.

  For some reason that I can't remember now, I one day had to take the mirror down, so now there was only the bare wall there instead.

  The next day I was in a hurry, and as I took a quick glance at the mirror as I used to, I saw my own reflection for a fraction of a second. Only there was no mirror there! Just the wall. It was just a fraction of a second, but my brain was probably so used to seeing my reflection that it kinda "prepared" itself to see it again.

  Well - maybe some would actually call that a real paranormal event, but I took it as a brain "glitch".

  Why did you exhaust yourself in making hundreds of billions of galaxies each with hundreds of billions of stars, when humans have only been able to see a tiny tiny fraction of them until the last hundred years or so of mankind's history? Why did you create the planets in our solar system? Why did you create the sun? Why didn't you simply put a million angels to light the night sky like the stars do now (for thousands of years, us humans wouldn't have known the difference)? Why not put one angel to be our sun, and provide heat without harmful radiation? If the universe you created was deemed to be 'perfect', how come galaxies can be seen to be colliding? If this was caused by the fall of man from your grace, how come these colliding galaxies are well over 50 million light-years away from us, and must have started colliding millions of years before the fall of man?

  Hmm... I guess that was more than one question. Plus it was just the physical, somewhat superficial stuff.

  I didn't really get to know you in my time here, but I'm pretty sure I read your story. Good luck in whatever it is you decide to do.

  I imagine I'm going to stop coming here myself once I've DAed myself and am officially through with it all and am ready to get on with my life for real.

  I've had one single strong 'paranormal' experience, in the form of a 'poltergeist' (look it up).

  My rational self already have several plausible explanations to it, but there are also parts to the story which are harder to explain away. When it happened, and several years afterwords, I was convinced it was paranormal. However, if I want to, I can find rational explanations to it all.

  Other that that, I've had deja vus. That's pretty much it for me.

  Haven't had a single occurrence of anything since I left (or at least faded from) the JWs.

  This series of JW science quotes could have been continued indefinitely, but I trust that by now everyone understands the point.

  Aww! -You at least have to do one about the second law of thermodynamics before you quit?

  There's probably a gold mine of quotes on various things in the 'Creator' books.

  Good job on the series, but I'm sure there's a lot more to find.
