As one of those that DID pass out at the convention, I'd have to agree with Veteran's Stadium in Philly being the worst. What's that phrase...hotter than hell? That would be the place!

Anybody else think Dateline might be interested in this new development? They've already got their research team onto the WTBS for the other big coverup, here's some more info for them.

Just to give you a little bit of hope...
I had a "best friend" growing up, we were like sisters. We did EVERYTHING together, had the same interests, you name it. During those stressful high school years, she started "drifting" from the organization. I was basically told that she was no longer a good association and so, brainwashed as I was at the time, I gradually cut my association with her. Over the years we lost touch.
Can't say I didn't think about her anymore. Every major event in my life (high school graduation, wedding, etc.) always felt incomplete without her.
Well, bet you can't guess who called me out of the blue about nine years ago? Yup, she missed me through the years as much as I missed her. And it's funny, by the time she had called me, I was already "drifted away" myself.
Although we now live quite a distance apart, we have a great friendship and call each other all the time. We share quite a bond and are looking forward to exchanging pictures of our kids in their Halloween costumes!
You never know how things might work out. A 26 year frienship is a good one. Hopefully your friend will see that. It may just take a little time for her to accept the change in the terms of your relationship.
I wish you the best. Know that you've got lots of people here that are ready to give you some support, even a shoulder to cry on if needed. We know what you're going through.

Response from sis about UN/NGO
by mindfield ini sent an email to my sis (jw) about the watchtower affair with the un, quoting the criteria and all that, thinking that she would be open-minded about the whole thing... obviously, i was wrong.
here's what she replied:.

I can't help but think:
I don't remember Jehovah "revising" the 10 Commandments after he gave them to Moses. Oops, sorry Moses, let me just change this one thing...
I don't remember Jesus changing his mind about what he was teaching when he was on earth.
I just don't see why it's okay for the WTBS to change teachings just because they suddenly "see the light". If I had been "in" 80 years ago I would have been okay celebrating Christmas. Now because I choose to do it I'm a bad person.
I don't think it's just me, does anybody else see just how stupid this is?

What about the children?
by sweetone2377 ini feel sorry for all jw's who get sucked in by the thinking "we will love you as long as you are good enough for jah.
" but, i feel worse for the children.
adults are able to decide for themselves, whether it's a religion that they want to persue.

I, for one, don't "blame" my parents for how I was raised. When you're in the midst of the organization, you're blinded to reason. Now that I've grown and made the decision FOR MYSELF to leave, I don't want to hold a grudge against my parents for things I missed out on.
The past is the past!
Sure I'm not happy about the fact that I didn't go to college and puruse a career I'd really enjoy. Sure I had many 'embarassing' moments during my school years with things I couldn't participate in. Sure most of my family members now feel it's taboo to talk to me.
But can I let it ruin the rest of my life? No! I realize that I've come out INTO the light and can now start living it the way that I want, not the way other people tell me to. I can't FOCUS on the negative, it would only lead to depression. What I can do is LEARN from the negative, vowing that it will never ruin my life or the lives of my children.
I'm a much happier person and am thrilled that my children will grow up with all the opportunities that I never had.

You're absolutely right, JBean!
I know I just sorta got sucked into an "expected" spiritual progress. You know, if you're raised right, you SHOULD auxiliary pioneer during summers from school, and of course if you did that you SHOULD be a regular pioneer when you graduate. Of course if you're male, you SHOULD progress from there to being a MS, then an elder, and so on and so on and so on...
I'm just glad I broke out of the rut when I did or I'd be repeating the whole shameful process with my own children!

Figured since this post got brought back up to the top, it was time to "come out". I just registered today but have been lurking for a couple of months.
My story in a nutshell: Raised a witness from the time I was about 8; dad never joined in; parents eventually divorced; aux. pioneered during high school; reg. pioneered after graduation (heaven forbid I go to college you know!); married another reg. pioneer; moved away from the only congregation I'd known and finally saw the organization for what it really was (is wasn't).
Been away from the JWs for almost 10 years, no intention of ever going back, but finally decided to do some investigation into the organization just to "prove" to myself that being away was the right decision.
Thanks for providing this forum for people like myself to get some much-needed information as well as support. Keep up the good work!
