Thats stupid, as stupid as my story about the film, I walked out on it, and the next day a JW called and I started a bible study as I was still in shock at the film. So it was the movie that prompted me to study what I thought was the bible.

Question for Ex-Elders
by okiesooner1966 ini apologize in advance if seems like i have started to many new threads, but this site no pun intended has been awakining.
i could not ask for my life to be much better, but there is one problem that i have.
i know it is not healthy but it is my life, i have been smoking even before i left the org.
-
fresia
I had the same problem, was a heavy smoker even more so when I faded out, when I was tracked down by a family member and asked study, I never told them I was smoking, when the elders came around I admitted I had a problem but stopped, which I did and havent' smoked for 17mths, I just stopped.
It is very hard I know but the freedom when you don't have to live a double life is fantastic. Not so much the religion but the not sneaking around.
I wish you luck. They will ask if you were smoking while attending meeting and field service if you say yes then they can DF you, if you say no and you have only been smoking since been inactive they cant DF you.
Good luck.

OMG! OMG! OMG! My DAD has the Sept KM QB part!! We have been....
by oompa ine-mailing back and forth for days about the qb, and he only told me today that he had not even noticed anything new or different about this material until i had brought it up.
he says it would be "absurd" to think the fds mean all literature and web sites other than the wt ones are not to be used for anything, but that the context of the article needs to be taken into consideration.
that the context is key.

Wizard is right, and thats what the society is worried about, the internet has been a great source of information about religion and the bible in general, sites I like to view usually have no denomination but give a scientific or historic look at things with open mind, from those that have nothing to gain other that finding truth themselves.
The countries that are now showing interest are the poorer countries, Africa and some European countries that were once behind the iron curtain or under socialist rule, are now being witnessed to, many are uneducated and very poor.
There is no really any growth in the western countries, only those born in the religion no converts, maybe immagrants thats all. But overwhelming fall in the percentage of converts since the internet.
This is why to Society is worried about higher education, and would only want the r/f educated by the WT publications, the fear is starting to turn the org into an obvious cult, where as it was suttle, now it is becoming desperate, and stricker rules have been sought to keep the fold shackled and the donations flowing. The elders have become policmen and look out for any signs of indiviual thinking and what they would term apostacy aboust the WTS or GB. It has become very political and their other concern is being sued, so the elders have to take the fall in many situations, they try and cover the WTS as much as possible.

Validation of JCanon's claims!
by Paralipomenon ini understand that many have been scoffing at jcanon's latest posts and mathematical calculations, but i thought i would dig a bit deeper, to see if there was any underlying truth to his claims.
first take a look at his handle here: .
jcanon .

He actually puts a lot of work into his posts, and some are very interesting, I don't find anything he does to be harmful and although some posts are long and very mathamatical, I tend to always take some little point away.
He really believes in everything he is doing.

It would be hard if you have family still in the org.
When I was being tracked down after being inactive for awhile, I acted nonchalant, like whats up, at the time I was living (sharing a house) with a man and his son. I just said I have some problems at the moment and need to sort them out, and I want you to respect my privacy on this if anything changes I will contact you.
I moved around a bit and never heard from them again until last year when it was a family member that got things going again, thats another story.
Good luck.

Billions of Lives Depend On This?
by R.F. inthe greatest work of all time, never to be repeated, is supposedly done by jehovah's witnesses.
of course you know i'm referring to the door to door work they take part in.
so many lives are at stake and your life is dependent on if you "accept the good news" that they preach.. i surely don't believe this anymore.
-
fresia
And therein lies the root of the problem. God did not get "this group" and so the preaching work is null and void, just a total waste of time. They took it on themselves to declare that they were God's special people, but their record says otherwise.
I personally think that God did use the WTS at one time, but not anymore, not for decades, as I believe it has been judged and rejected as unfit. I think God has let them to themselves.

Will the Book Study ever be dropped from the weekly meetings?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe book study is one of the most useless meetings.
the same books have been studied 3 or 4 times.the meeting takes only an hour but takes up most of your evening.
and, it is one of the least attended meetings.. why haven't they combined the watchtower study with just question and answer and then follow with the book study with just question and answer?

Had a part in the August KM about the importance of the BS, and who it helps us to get close to one another, its more intimate, and the BSO gets to know the spiritual health of the flock, he can work along with them and help them in the FS, *which is crap, never once has he offered to help me.*
Also they have everyones phone, email or mobile number in case of emergancies, or natural catastophies, that is good and can be practical especially if you are old, ill disabled and are on youre own.
So I can't see that they would get rid of the BS group. I actually don't mind it, as I sneak some little beuts in sometimes, always using the insight book though huh.
I think they should cut of at least 1/2 hr of the TMS, it really is a burden especially on those that have to work and families with young kids, we don't get home until 10 o'clock at night, and ones that are old and disabled it really is a nuicence, cant see any need to see demonstrations of offering the WT at the doors, they already have the sugestions on the back of the KM anyways. The bible reading and maybe a bible disgussion and info for our local territory thats it.

FDS can read hearts/minds of the dead & know personal destiny.
by oompa inwt- july 15, 2007 study article page 18 par.
"yes, judas felt remorse after the betrayal, but he never repented of his deliberate sin.
consequently, judas is not worthy of a resurrection.. wow!
-
fresia
Thank you Fres, I forgot he hung himself, and then went splat due to a technical glitch. However are you joking, or FDS mind reader of the dead too? How can you you say "he obviously thought there would be no forgivness?" I say that because I got the impression he was so distraught for what he did, that he may have thought their was no hope for him. Maybe I should not have said obviously, for me that is how it seemed AND I never go that idea from a WT publication.
Lots of people kill themselves for many different reasons. What if he could just not bear to face the other apostles, was truly sick at heart, had asked for forgivness, and decided he not live with the guilt? Lots of people kill someone close to them, and then kill themselves just due to guilt
Well not lots of people betray the son of God, he made a choice, and knowing who Jesus was, it didnt' seem out of ignorance did it?
I used the excuse of depression as a side issue, as ultimately my point is only Jehovah knows if he was repentant. But once his conscience hit him especially when the soldiers came to take Jesus away, it fulfilled bible prophecy, so Judas would have know that. It gives an important lesson also as does all of Jesus parables and stories. Judas betrayed Jesus for money, but he was in control of the money box well before this happened, so it is unlikely that this was a one out insident, he may have been steeling from the money box well before this, so it was a gradual thing. Something in that for all of us, we don't just wake up overnight and say I'm leaving or I'm doing this or that, it happens gradually.
