It is a joke! I remember worrying myself to despair thinking that if I cannot provide a good standard of living and opportunities for my children to make their own free choices that I was worse than a man without faith! And that if I could not get them all to come along in this faith I would have to ignore them. I could not do it and the logical reasoning about illogical scenarios used to screw my brain to every wall in my house and being married to someone who followed like a dog on a lead and shunned me for not doing sent me spiritually awol time and again. I tried to be the perfect example of a paradoxical role model and when I looked in the mirror never ever knew if I was going upstairs or down until I fell downstairs and knew my place! What a life fuck but I cant fully blame JW coz I'd had a ride on the mark 1 model driven by mother at home in my teens! My ex wife was the mark 2 model. JWs the mark 3 and my present life mark 4. I keep looking around for some understanding person to come and prefix it with thunderbirds then we can GO GO GO!

Shunning a Jehovah's Witness - They don't like it!
by jambon1 inan elder who lives nearby has decided to be play the twat with me recently.
i have been out for nearly 2 years, which makes it even more pathetic on his part.. after leaving, this character (thinking i was depressed), would give me the most tactless, thoughless advice that you have ever heard.
he loved 'giving it to me' right outside my house.

This is a big undiscussed problem with the whole JW philosophy - the fact that those in power have attitude! The fact that it is run at grass roots level by men and their wives who are as human as anyone and some of whom are as controlling as any Jerry Springer candidate but under the guise of the faithful and discreet slaves fancy dress. They enjoy their status and the repeated respect they get showered with they could get nowhere else and I've even seen some aged recruits who I'm damn sure played the JW game coz it was their last chance saloon of getting a gorgeous young and unsuspecting sister - I saw one guy work this to perfection. I'm tempted for a second myself I can tell you! Some people no matter where you go are out for NUMERO 1 as their alpha and omega and everything else fits that jigsaw puzzle. Those who give of their soul I see all to often weak and dying having been slaughtered at the altar of the self righteous!

Did You EVER Enjoy Going To Meetings Or Out In Service?
by minimus ini can say that i don't thinki ever really looked forward to going to a 2 hour meeting or a 2 hour ride around in the "ministry.

I remember meditating during meetings on the widows mite and how a small gift given with love is better than a large one given unwillingly. I often arrived at feeling of unifying my soul with my creator and feeling I wanted to tell others about Him until an elder stood up toward the end of a meeting and said, as he so often frustratingly did,' Well brothers and sisters, anyone who really loves Jehovah is sure to want to come out this afternoon and spend any time they can spare telling others about Him....' or words to that effect. I was always staggered at how his phrasing was filled with emotional blackmail! I often changed my mind after he spoke purely on account of the fact that I felt he had just taken away my free spirit and sorta said,' Right everyone - now prove to everyone you love God.'

Lying is okay
by Hiddenwindow inthere are several doctrinal explications in the wt literature about which the average jw is not aware.
one that has always puzzled me is the definition that the insight book gives to lying.
it explains that lying does not mean to provide false information, but that it means to give wrong information to whoever has the right to know.

It is true to say that concealing information is something people do in exercising wisdom - for example you may deem it better not to reveal information to outsiders if you were on a jury or certain things to youngsters who do not need be aware of such things. In this respect this debate can become complex. Many mothers do not reveal to fathers the likelihood that their child may not be his. I was staggered by the statistics given for this! It means many men have given their lives unknowingly to a child that is not theirs and their devotion to a woman who misled them? If this ever got into legal channels who knows how many women would end up in prison due to the ruination of a mans whole life - though it must be said many men have to get used to being treated that way - disposable - whether in wartime, divorce, careers, or through wrongdoing! They take the lions share of all the anger/ sin in society in terms of long suffering, punishment or even death and get tarred with all kinds of derisory and derogatory labels whenever they moan about it - they've been brainwashed by mothers to shut up and be a man so the women can continue to lie, spout of and control things! IMHO of course.

How Have You Gone About Making Friends Since Leaving the Witnesses ?
by flipper ini've noticed lately that some on our board, or perhaps for many of us, that's why i'm writing this , have had a challenge making new friends after leaving the jehovah's witnesses religion.
it has been a mixed bag for me.
i have met some through my wife, who is not a witness.

There is not a single individual that I identify with in my life! Everyone is so many shades of gray different that I share no real intellectual bond with anyone! Period.

Throwing the Baby out with the Bathwater Goodbye Watchtower Hello Nothing?
by Magick inas witnesses who were deeply indoctrinated.
we accepted all of jehovah's witness teachings as a total package, it was "the truth".
there were no cracks in our armor that would allow other ideas, doctrines or thoughts to seep in.

When I was 4 years old the tip of one of my fingers lay dangling by a shred of skin after I'd tried lifting a heavy grid. I looked at it surprised and immediately thought of how I'd always have a flat end on this finger, just before the numbness started to fade and the pain kicked in! I have a distinct memory of this event. A week or two later I stood in the sun in the exact same spot analyzing my finger for signs of the almost perfectly healed wound. I looked up at the sky and said in silence, 'How did you do that?' It is fine that some things mend to our amazement whilst we do nothing but wonder and wait. And it lightens up the soul when each of us realize the life on our planet continues with or without each of us. Someday we may all learn how to let our hearts beat with it and not stress over thinking it our job to change it. There are forces at work which can do more without our input than with it. Learning to know when we can help is for each of us to work out for ourselves. At the end of our time it is between each of us and the one who put us here - no one elses opinion matters!

Jehovah's Witnesses are not a cult and here's why I think so
by B_Deserter inwhen most people think of "cult" they think of the people's temple, the branch davidians, or heaven's gate.
many also want to put jehovah's witnesses, mormons, and scientologists into this group.
i don't agree with that because there is one main difference between true cults and high-control groups like jws:.

Whatever classification you may wish to apply it is the mindset that inhibits, inhabits, dominates and destroys the individual. The physical integration of individuals in mainstream society is dysfunctional and illusory. You know they can be no part of the world. That is the mindset they carry around with them! As such they do not have the comfort of a pure cult in being completely immersed within a group that accepts and supports them wholesale. They live out a conflict with their day to day environment - trying to homogenize with society without ever becoming part of it. A psychological camouflage of not wanting to be singled out for being different whilst at the same time maintaining difference and disconnection to please an invisible constantly watching God. It is a juggling act in which there is no rest. And the group gatherings are tediously tiring bouts of never ending study and dealers of responsibility to save souls of the rest of humanity. It is indeed an unsurmountable task laid in the laps of sincere God fearing individuals who deserve much better and far more respect and autonomy than they are ever granted or encouraged to realize!

Maybe you are now using your own heart and mind to form your own view of things which gives you real understanding and relationships you can submerse yourself in, which after all is experiencing human love for one another. It needs no rules and regulation. It is a freedom and natural. Amen.

College problems for daughter
by Stopthem ini need electronic copies of anything in the watchtower or anything else speaking against college and higher education, preferably from the october 15 2005 wt and onward.
my bright, intelligent 17-year-old daughter just informed me that she's decided against going to college because of all the garbage her kingdumb hall has told her.
her mother started up going to jw about 4 years ago, and i guess i wasn't watching what they were doing to my daughter closely enough (but then, they don't want you to).

Tell her about all the JW s who are wealthy and have well paid jobs so they can do as they please whereas those on low incomes work longer hours for the next 30 years just to pay rent which keeps going up. Remind her how a good job could mean she spends more time in her faith coz it will pat more in the long term. I bet she thinks Armageddon may come whilst she is in college and God will think she turned her bck on him thinking of herself - I guarantee she has been made to feel that way!!! Ask her explain what she thinks God wants her to do, what those at the KH want her to do and what she herself wants to do if she thought God wouldn't care one way or the other. Then ask her to think about her relationship with God. Is it her and Him. Or is it her via WTBTS unique channel to God Almighty? Act like your interested in her beliefs and not disappointed with anything! Because truly you are!
