Minimus- Having been raised in the org. I went to many congregation over the years. And the one common denominator I saw was as so went the elders, so went the congregation. That was a phrase my dad 82 an elder for years always used. It seemed to be pretty accurate. If you had a body of elders that was uninvolved for the most part, aloof, unapproachable, you would sense a spirit in the congregation like that. However if you had some really down to earth normal human being elders who sincerely got involved with publishers , because they wanted to, you would see a warm, hospitable, giving friendly spirit in that congregation.I generally liked that latter kind of congregation, where most people would act real instead of fake or plastic. A congregation would generally be what each person put into it

Did You Like Your Congregation?
by minimus inthe hall i was in the last few years was not a bad place.
most of the people were middle class, some had college educations (like the po and his wife); they generally weren't over critical.
of course there were a few elders and publishers that were pains but for the most part the people in that hall were pretty decent.

Snarf- Mr. Flipper here. Never been lied to as of yet. I think most people have good motives for being on here. I'm usually one to give people the benefit of the doubt, unless of course they act mean or aggressive to me, or intentionally try to decieve me. Pretty easygoing, me and my wife. Sorry that happened to you. Peace my friend you can P.M. us any time. Peace, Mr. Flipper

Jaguarbass- Peace to you my friend. Mr. Flipper here. I have people in my family who have had depression, I've fortunately never had it, but empathize with those that do. But something I've had that you have is an insane worh schedule with weird hours. I've worked self -employed janitorial for about 25 years with a schedule odd like yours. Go to sleep 10:00 P.M. get up at 2:30 A.M. Work till about 9:00A.M. then drive hour to hour and a half home and get a nap then start over the next night. I find in my case if I don't get a nap before working the next night, I feel like I've been in a war zone, dragging physically, mentally. It's been said in the world of medicine that we all need that REM sleep because we dream and get the deep sleep our minds and bodies need to stay healthy. I know you have a lot on your plate, but is it possible for you ,my friend to get just a little more sleep? Maybe an hour or two in between work. It just might help a bit.It has helped me survive all these years.Sometimes I've been so tired I get concious amnesia while driving wondering where the hell I'm at, then I suddenly snap out of it. Jags, we all feel your pain, I was raised in the jw's from birth too, and I try to make lemonade out of lemons life has given me. Please know you are in our hearts, be kind to yourself, don't berate yourself or let others do it to you, you are a good man, get some rest when needed. Peace to you, Mr. Flipper

Arguments against Disfellowshipping
by TheListener ini would like a simple step by step explanation that refutes the disfellowshipping policy as practiced by jehovah's witnesses.. obviously, i don't agree with the policy but i have had trouble making my explanations clear and straightforward.. any help would be appreciated..

Mr. Flipper here. Gill's point earlier about there being a longer list of people disfellowshipped for alleged "apostasy" than those kicked out for child abuse is a very valid point. This cult is so ironic that it goes to extreme lengths to protect members guilty of child abuse, especially if that person has ties to someone in authority or if revealing the abusers would make a lot of dominoes fall or house of cards crumble. There are reasons some people get disfellowshipped, and reasons why others get away scott free with their evil conduct. That alone is reason enough for someone to make sure this secret database file they have of alledgedly,"27,000 molesters " should be made public. Put them all in a lineup against a wall, and let us judge them P.S. Argument against disfellowshipping? It's unjust and flawed!

Finally getting shunned...
by bluesbreaker59 inwell my family has been doing it for a while.
but i found it really strange, that i live in an area of town with many jw's and still go to all the normal places, and yet i'd not seen them... last week, walking around downtown, i spotted my "step -aunt", (step mom's side) and she put her head down, and wouldn't acknowledge me.
then i rode up the elevator with her today, same treatment, thought today she made eye contact.

Hey Bluesbuddy- Hang in there. There are a lot of people who care about you on this board. You are among friends. Many of us have experienced this kind of rejection. You are a valuable person in your own right and never let the shunning witnesses make you who you are. It just shows they are cultlike and blind. Just keep a smile on your face and they will see you are better off anyway. Stay positive. The sun will keep rising each morning, believe me. Peace to you, Mr. Flipper

Well now I'm just angry
by lola28 ini just read blondies wt review and it made me angry.
how can the society continue to place more importance on pioneering than getting an education or getting a good job?
why do these men insist on making young ones (and even older members) feel bad for wanting to have a secure future, what the hell is wrong with not wanting to live in a tent?

Lola- Mr. Flipper here. I have a younger witness daughter (19) who won't have much to do with me because of being out of the org. But her mother, my ex , insisted on her getting only home schooled education through high school which I feel led her to have a lack of social skills. My daughter did get her registered dental assistant liscence, and went to work for a dentist at age 18. She only lasted one or 2 months if that because she is so opiniated that she couldn't get along with co-workers. When I asked her why she didn't try to get another job with another dentist her reply was," Oh well! I'm getting married to a brother who is an electrician, so I don't need the job. At least I have the training if I need a job in the future". I felt like telling her she needs social skills training, but she wouldn' t listen. Won't waste my breath. But the witnesses don't realize what a disservice they are doing for all their youth by discouraging education.By the way, have a 22 year old non witness son who is doing great in a university. Go figure.Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Why do witnesses intentionally avoid having kids?
by NotaNess in1) don't want to deal with it at meetings is what i think would be on the top of the list.they see what others have to go through.. 2) i know a married couple jws, that are avoiding having kids, and i've heard of reasons from them like.... "don't want to raise them up in this system".
"time is too short".
"i'll wait until the next system of things".

I've heard my youngest daughter, a jdub say she wants to wait for the "paradise" to have children. A lot of young people in that religion are told to put the kingdom first, use their youth to go out in the preaching work, and put Jehovah's interests first, before your own. They call it I think"making a sacrifice" for the kingdom. I can only count on many fingers the times I have personally heard of "parents" making "sacrifices" of their children, once they've had them, because they were too preoccupied with wanting to do the preaching work, instead of spending important time raising their kids to be stable, emotionally well grounded people. "latch key" witness kids whose parents, perhaps, possibly shouldn't have had kids if they weren't willing to spend more time raising them, than raising their own reputation in the congregations.Peace to all, Mr. Flipper

Minimus- The realization that if you try to reason with them ,it's a waste of time because they have preformed patented answers for everything as provided by their governing body. And that they try to keep as more important their outward appearance as an organization instead of admitting to the child molestation problem publicly and to their members. Instead they try to hide the damaging information. It's dangerous and annoying to say the least. Peace, Mr. Flipper

Mr. Flipper here, forgot a few I really like. The Edge with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. Comedy also reigns supreme in our house too. Night at the Roxbury or any Will Ferrell movies, some Jim Carrey, Dumb and Dumber, Cable Guy I like alot, dark humor there. Of course I like all 3 Austin powers movies. Quite titillating. Dr. Evil just kills me. My son teases me like Scott does Dr. Evil his dad. My son is more respectful though. He better be. So just a few. Keep postin'. Peace, mr. Flipper
