What was the first single you ever bought, and what are your memories?
by lifelong humanist insome light relief!.
even now, i can vividly recall buying my very first 45 rpm single in 1967.. i was only just 15 years old.
i worked as a 'paper boy', delivering newspapers to people living nearby.

Should the Watchtower get an official facebook, twitter or youtube page? (Cause people dont read magazines nowadays)
by Joliette ini was thinking about mormons .
(they have a channel on youtube) and how other religions seem to be moving with the times, while jw's are still stuck on going door to door witnessing, street corner (while people are trying to get to work, not trying to be bothered with someone giving them a magazine about religion) passing out magazines, doing telephone witnessing, and letter writing.. most people dont even read magazines anymore (most people dont even have magazines subscriptions anymore) the majority of people are on the internet (or on their cell phones texting and chatting) on these websites (ex: facebook, twitter, youtube, etc).
if the message is so urgent, lifesaving, and life altering, why wont the watchtower 'get with times' sort of speak.

I've always wondered how they explain that they have an official website, yet admonish the brothers and sisters to stay away from the internet. I remember my mother always gave one of her Jdub influenced double-talking answers whenever I asked her that.

WT articles that make you go, "WTF?"
by undercover inmarch 1, 2011 wt kool aid edition.... the article: does the bible condemn gambling.
notice the highlighted boxes.... first the indication that the catholic church does not consider gambling itself a sin... and then challenges that because no scriptural passages are given in proof of their assertion.. the very next column though, the wts admits that the bible does not directly mention gambling.
so, um, how do you expect the catholics to come up with scriptures if there are none?.

I'm with Minimus on the voting issue, I'll never forget about five plus years ago someone on the this site gave the exact page in the Bound Volume of Awake from 1961 of 1962 saying that Jdubs could vote, of course my Ishowed it to my mom and she said, well of course we can vote, but then if I bought up the question a week later . . . we know what she would've said.
And let us not forget the ever popular photo of the Bethel Family celebrating CHristmas with the tree in the background

Yeah, the mom is something, but I really don't blame her, if you have kids with addictions and you hear the same song over and over again . . so I understand where she's coming from. Remember that Judge Mathis always tells the story that when he was a wayward youth and was locked up, the jail called his mom and she said "leave him there", needless to say, he's seen the light, and leads his life now accordingly

what is the wt's stance on dubs visiting historic churches?
by moomanchu ini drives me crazy when jw's go on tours of historic churches, the vatican, or mosques .
they go in the church take pics, and oooo and ahhhhh over the buildings.. why the f_ _ _k are they expressing awe and wonder at what they believe to be satan's world headquarters .. don't they know jehovah is soon about to destroy all these architectural wonders.. jw relative has just come back from visiting the vatican.. stupid cult aaahhh !!.

When you attend meetings for most of your life in a building shaped liked a box with fold up and chairs and no windows, I would think that's why the main consensus here by those who posted say that they see nothing wrong with visiting cathedrals and the like.
WHen I watch Rick Steve's travel show, the main interest for me is always when he visits the Cathedrals built 200 and more years ago, such handmade detail and such and the tall arched ceilings makes wanna tour Europe just to visit such places

Was It a Fig Tree From Which Eve and Adam Ate?
by snowbird inbook of jasher .
14 and it was in the fifty-sixth year of the life of lamech when adam died; nine hundred and thirty years old was he at his death, and his two sons, with enoch and methuselah his son, buried him with great pomp, as at the burial of kings, in the cave which god had told him.
15 and in that place all the sons of men made a great mourning and weeping on account of adam; it has therefore become a custom among the sons of men to this day.
