JW cleared of rape
by Earnest inas reported in the cambridge (uk) evening news, september 2, 2004, page 17:.
a jehovah's witness accused of raping a 13-year-old has been acquitted by a jury.. jon hines had described the rape allegations as "farcical".. mr hines, formerly of kingston close, huntingdon, and now living in lowestoft, said his 20-year marriage had ended in divorce mainly because he had been unable to make love to his wife for several years as a result of prostrate problems.. the 61-year-old had denied three charges of raping the girl while she was visiting his lowestoft home in 2002.. .
although one of the guidelines for posting on this forum is not to add the same comment more than once, i am opening a subsequent thread to the newspaper report on the trial as his acquittal should receive no less publicity than the original allegations.. in my opinion, this trial is a cautionary note to the much criticised two-witness rule.

"Take, eat. This is [estin] my body."
by Earnest inapart from the references in the gospels to the last supper (matthew 26:26; mark 14:22;luke 22:19) where the loaf is [estin] christ's body, there is also the remarkable passage in john 6:54-56 :he that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and i shall resurrect him at the last day; for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
he that feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood remains in union with me, and i in union with him.. .
now we know that the nwt translates matthew 26:26 as "...this means my body" and explains in the footnote "lit., "is", in the sense of signifying, importing, representing.

"The soul of the flesh is in the blood..."
by Earnest inthe reader's digest of september 2003 has an article on near-death experiences (pp.94-100).
these involve people who have been clinically dead but have revived and reported a sense of consciousness during the period they were "dead".
this has often been cited as evidence of life after death.

Westcott & Hort - Saints or Sinners ?
by Earnest inin 1951 ernest cadmen colwell, an eminent bible scholar, wrote a book entitled what is the best new testament in which he made a study of a number of translations and put them to the test as to sixty-four citations in the book of john.
in the book he said (pp.99,100) :no scholar today employs [the textus receptus] for any scholarly purpose except as he may use it in writing the history of the greek new testament.
the king james version is undoubtably the most inaccurate english new testament in common use today...the king james stands at the bottom of the list also in regard to three spurious passages selected as tests (mk 16:9-20; jn 7:53-8:11 and 1 john 5:7-8).. .

Are there any beliefs you would be willing to die for ?
by Earnest inusually our beliefs and convictions are not a choice of life and death but that can sometimes arise as it has done for many who have refused blood transfusions.
are there any beliefs that you would die for if you had to make a choice ?

Is Child Abuse being Hijacked ?
by Earnest injust a question, minimus.
edited for change of subject heading: .
i have amended the subject as i agree it was inflammatory and detracted from my main concern that child abuse victims are being treated as pawns.
