I am not a fan of the gun-to-the-head scenario. I don't think anything said would matter once the situation was over. Many, if they thought the situation was genuine, would have no problem saying what an assailant wants them to say, and they would not mean it.
A more realistic situation involving JW's would be one of having to break their rules and give blood to their child. Many secretly hope that a judge will force the issue rather than let their child die, but their worst nightmare would be knowing their child will die and nobody forces blood, so the parent must be the hero or the villain.

Would this scenario make a totally devout JW renounce their faith?
by BourneIdentity inwe’ve all heard the stories of someone pointing a gun at a jw telling them to renounce their faith or die.
some live to tell about it, others don’t.
but what makes it seem easier to stomach is it just involves that person, no one else.

Refusing a blood transfusion
by BourneIdentity inhello all, first post.
i've been lurking for months and figured it was time to post a few things, i've been pimo for the last couple of years.. i was doing some thinking about an adult refusing a blood transfusion, especially one that has several children.
when you married and had children, you signed up to take care of them, to love and protect them.

BourneIdentity, your thoughts are a valid point of view.
However, most JW elders wouldn't even step aside from responsibilities so that their barely adult disfellowshipped child could remain at home. I have met a fantastic couple at Tahoe who told the congregation otherwise on that subject when their son was sick and DF'ed, but that is rare.
Your view could possibly be more common as time goes on, more and more people tired of waiting on Paradise.
I hope so. -

Is it OK to teach your children that Homosexuality is wrong?
by Thomasdam ini know a few family's who have left the cult but send their kids to a religious school because of the public schools teaching many times that homosexuality is ok. the bible is clear that its a sin.
there is no just love each other and its all ok. i don't believe in the bible or any religion.
i have a niece who came out as gay and i told her i don't care.

public schools teaching many times that Homosexuality is OK
I don't doubt that it happens. I think public schools should mostly just teach that people are different and different people are okay. I don't think there should be any groups/clubs homosexuality or heterosexuality themed, but to just teach acceptance and let kids focus on the three R's and sports and music and art, stuff like that. -

Do You Think The Bible Teaches A Trinity As Religions Teach?
by minimus ini’m not asking whether you believe in the bible.
i just want your opinion as to whether you think the bible teaches it.
i don’t, for what it’s worth..

I am quite fond of understanding that men teach various ideas and use the Bible to support them.
The Bible can be used to support hatred, love, abortion, no-abortion, a Trinity, no-Trinity.
I think you get the idea. All teachings are from men, and the Bible is just their tool to say "SEE, IT SAYS SO...."
Do I think the Bible teaches a Trinity as some religions teach? No, but it doesn't straight up teach that God's active force (or spirit) and Jesus are definitely not part of each other. Still, it sounds like crazy shit that men made up. -

Howdie!
by Olesatthewheel inevening all.
my first post - born in but faded 15 years ago before that i was pimo for a number of years.. to put it bluntly the whole jw religion/thing is a crock of shit.
i sort of figured this out for myself before i faded but reading posts and comments on this forum confirms this.

Howdy back at you.
Many were raised in it. Their ability to know better was wired out of some brains.
Many were convinced they knew something special that the rest of the world just is blinded to.
Mainly, its a dangerous mind-control cult and it uses deceitful means to get people thinking the wrong way.Otherwise, I am kind of with you. While I was sucked in (for reasons too long to cover in one post) I remember reading that it is something we should figure out eventually. Well, it took me 20-ish years, but I feel like most should get tired of it or smell something rotten about it.
Anyway, welcome. Howdy. See you around the forums. -

Indian Larry, I have a good feeling that you are still reading the responses here. I hope so. You have received much caring thoughts. We are very concerned that you mention your daughter being suicidal and we don't want to say anything radical that doesn't help.
I don't think anything ANYONE has said was too over-the-top radical like that.I also think your daughter has to be herself in that she has to ultimately decide how to get out. I would tell her to work up a plan with her counselor. One of the best books I discovered long after I got out was Bonnie Zieman's EXITING THE JW CULT. She's a former JW turned counselor with a great help to the depressed as they discover the truth about "the truth." RUN TO AMAZON and get that for her. DO IT!!!

Remember 1992?
by Tobyjones262 inanyone remember 1992?
i can remember i was in the cult.
times were changing at a rapid pace.

I was fully involved in 1992. Baptized in 1988 and married by the end of 1990, ministerial servant on his way to elder. I have to agree with Slimboyfat on page 1 of this thread that "1995 was the turning point for JWs."
No turning back. The "generation of 1914" was expiring. So up to that point, they were very busy convincing themselves that everything was fine. The end is right around this very next corner.Well, it expired. It didn't happen. The JW's left are just denying their disappointment.

Be Bold Circult assembly
by Rattigan350 inat the 2018-2019 be bold circult assembly yesterday.
yes, curcult, change the i to an l. because when they have 2 demonstrations about youths not going to university and another talk says for adults at work to be bold and refuse birthday treats being given away, it shows so much pettiness and lack of real concern for the people.. i was actually looking forward to the ca because a week before tornadoes went through our circuit and passed 2 miles by a kingdom hall and less than 1 mile by another that had meetings that afternoon.
i was expecting the circult overseer to give a report on it.

O.K. ! So last night after 14 ex-JW child abuse victims shared their stories on film in Sacramento to be aired at a later date ; my son and myself had an invitation to join among these survivors at a dinner later ....
That is awesome.
