I never believed any one politician could completely fix every problem in this country, It's not possible. The problems we are facing didn't happen overnight and won't be fixed overnight, no matter who is elected. I don't think it's all completely hopeless either. I study the issues, study the candidates, and give it my best shot. It's all you can do. It's frustrating, but I dont' see just giving up and saying they are all a bunch of idiots and it doesn't matter.

Do You Truly Believe A Certain Politician Or Political Party WILL Bring About Real Change?
by minimus insoooo many thought obama was the savior and now scores of people are abandoning him and his policies.
the pendulum swings and you hear how we need a republican to bail us out of our mess.. do you really believe a single person or party can make the changes for the country or the world ?

Fed. Judge Just Issued Worldwide Permanent Injunction Against Don't Ask/Don't Tell
by Justitia Themis inhttp://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1202473278793&judge_issues_global_injunction_against_dont_ask_dont_tell.
a federal judge in california has issued an injunction barring enforcement of "don't ask, don't tell," the federal law banning service by open homosexuals in the armed forces.. u.s. district judge virginia phillips of riverside, calif., who on sept. 9 found that the law was unconstitutional, granted the global injunction on tuesday.
she wrote that without the injunction, "there is no adequate remedy at law to prevent the continued violation of servicemembers' rights or to compensate them for violation of their rights.".

My husband is retired Army, he doesn't see a problem with gays in the military at all and thinks DADT is a horrible policy. Imagine having to keep a big part of your life a secret, or face losing your career. Imagine giving your life for your country, never having been allowed to be open about your orientation. It's a head in the sand approach that doesn't work and fosters hypocrisy and lies.

by confuzzled777 inhow do i make a long story short?
i am fully aware that if anyone in my area were to read this that they will know who i am.
i was disfellowshipped on january 28th 2010 after an "interview" about an evening of bowling with friends and family back in november 2009. i was among 4 who were disfellowshipped and 6 who were publicly reproved.

I am sorry you had to go through this abuse. That is what it is, abuse. Think long and hard about what you had to go through, and how it made you feel. Do you want your children to suffer like this some day because they made a youthful mistake or someone thought they had? Do you want your daughter to have to "confess" to a bunch of old men who have no real training in counseling, or psychology? To tell them what part of her body her boyfriend touched? To be told that her family can't talk to her because she didn't act sorry enough for them? I had a friend who's daughter was DFd for heavy petting. And she was not able to get re-instated although she went to meetings for months. She finally wised up, got counseling and never went back

I think I'll sleep in on Sunday, then go out for breakfast. Later, I'll drink a few beers and watch the game and not feel guilty about it.

I had the same impression as misery, it's been so long since I read any of the literature that it was somewhat shocking reading this. When I was in I wouldn't have thought anything about it, but now it seems creepy.

I've had a great weekend too! Friday night my husband and I watched an Italian move (love Netflix) and had Italian food and for dessert Tiramissou and coffee with sambuca, yum. Saturday, my friend and I went to an antique street market, hit a few of our favorite unique shops and had Scones and tea at a fancy/frenchy place. Later my husband and I went to Oktoberfest. Our little town has a nice one every year, listened to polka music and had a beer, and watched all the cute little kids playing and doing the chicken dance. Good times. Then we watched another Netflix movie - The invention of Lying, good movie, funny and made you think. In the move, the main character makes up the whole concept of God, which no one had ever heard of before. He made it all up, and because no one else had ever lied, they all believed it. He called him "the guy up in the sky", and the church was called "the quiet place, where you go to think about the guy in the sky.

I just got a phone call from the branch office....
by ex-witness ini just received a phone call from the local branch office.
the person on the phone asked me if i was serious about my letter of disassociation and if i knew what that implied.
my response.

I never wrote a letter, but I can certainly understand why someone might want to, it's an entirely personal decision. What I find astounding is that they call you after specific instructions not to. Are you serious about the disassociation?? Do you know what it implies??
After being a JW, it's pretty much pounded into your head what disfellowshiping and disassociation involves. How could anyone not know that they will be shunned by family and friends? And who would do that on a whim? Do they call everyone who sends a letter? It's weird.

To Christmas or Not to Christmas (inspired by Watersprout's DA thread)
by Mad Sweeney inmy wife and kid want to do christmas but i don't.
i am not against it but i have no reason to celebrate the holiday.
i'll get the kid some presents, and maybe my wife, but is that alone really "celebrating christmas?

The nice thing about leaving the JWs and choosing to celebrate Christmas is you can choose to do it however you like, there are no family traditions to uphold. You can do as little or as much as you like. I wasn't sure at first I wanted to do it, but it surprised me, as I found I enjoyed it very much. I'll never forget my first Christmas. My husband and I spent Christmas day, snugged up on the sofa, reading the books we got, listening to Christmas music and drinking cocoa, while it snowed. It was heaven.
