I have. Sort of. He now knows (didn't always) that I "interact with apostates" and use many "apostate" resources for my research. He accepts that but doesn't want to know the details, which I respect.

How Can We Expose Child Abusers - Who Got Away with it as Witnesses ?
by flipper ini got the idea for this thread by talking with a friend this weekend who had been abused by a father when young.
this person confronted this parent about it and got a very self righteous reply back from the offender.
already a precedent for exposing the watchtower society has been set.

I understand and appreciate the sentiment of this, but it is a can of worms that could very easily backfire. Publishing names of abusers without "official" documentation to back it up exposes the victims to legally pursuable liability. I'm not saying that it's right or fair, but something like this could end up with perpetrators successfully suing and re-victimizing their victims, or those acting on behalf of the victims.
If you are looking to compile a list of known abusers, I would suggest vetting the list via the public record. The very LAST thing you want is a situation that exposes victims to potential repercussions from their abusers via the legal system. And that is a very real possibility with publishing a list of names with no "official" record to back up the accusations. Whistle-blower documentation would apply here also -- verifiable documentation "leaked" from wherever -- but just a list of people publishing names and personal experiences ultimately exposes the victims to further assault from a legal standpoint.
I'm just saying, please be careful with this and make sure you fully understand how the system works, and how it can blow up in your face, because it can. A victim of rape/molestation/abuse having to pay restitution to their abuser is a sick and damaging scenario that could very easily result from this, if not handled properly. Please consult an attorney and/or other relevant professionals before pursuing this idea. -

My first convention
by kurtbethel ini went to the district convention in san diego.
i got to see first hand the good, the bad, and the ugly of what transpires at a convention.
the worst fears of what i was warned about never materialized.

Thank you for posting this! I have never been to a convention, and so have a lot of curiosity about them (not enough to actually ever attend one though LOL). Your comments and pictures were so light-hearted and fun, I wonder what the people there made of you! It sounds like you endured this event with your sense of humor intact throughout.
I have read and heard about the Keep Moving guys. The idea of that has always seemed so ludicrous to me, and now I have finally seen one. He looks just how I pictured them to look.
I am curious about all the umbrellas, and all the empty seats. Does most of the stadium stay empty the whole time, with all the people crammed into a smaller section? And I see a lot of large fancy umbrellas in those pictures, some of them practically open-air tents. That seems like a hefty thing to lug around. Are they provided, or do all of these people bring their own?
Thanks again for sharing this. I know most people here have endured way too many of these things and probably cringe at the thought, but it's a bizarre curiosity to me and I loved your funny approach to it all. Thanks for letting me experience this vicariously -- the only way I'm willing to do it LOL. -

Fireworks/Kids/Non licensed person...ok? or bad idea?
by FreedomFrog ini've been invited by a group of friends to join them at their house shooting off fireworks.
ok, first red flag is i know they are not licensed and the fireworks are illegal.
though, isn't it "illegal" the same as driving the car a bit over the speed limit?.

Maybe you could share your concerns with your friend and ask questions to get a better idea of what to expect.
Even if you decide against going, the alternative you're offering the kids sounds pretty fun too -- the parade/games/professional fireworks display. When I was a kid, people in the neighborhood set off fireworks and also we would go to see the professional displays. I always thought the pro ones were way more fun and exciting. So I don't think you're being a "party pooper" either way, it's not like you're making them stay home and see no fireworks at all. -

This is sad news. George Carlin cut through BS with a chainsaw, with a wicked wit and a sharp intellect and a lot of guts. This guy brought "the emperor has no clothes" to the masses, and made it work because he wasn't just smart, he was also freakin hilarious. He'll be missed.

all those books
by runningonfaith inmy wt librery is going in the recycle bin a little at the time.what did you do with the wt books?
-
nameless_one
If you do recycle them, please remove the covers or otherwise "disassemble" them somehow (wouldn't want some unwary worldly stumbling across it and then sharing the experience from the platform years later, dontcha know).
An even better solution, if you're willing to accept a minor degree of hassle, is to donate it for purposes of cult-awareness. Blondie's suggestion is a good one.
Whatever you choose to do with it, congratulations for getting out and wanting to toss it :-) -

So this guy was raised a Witness, a JW his whole life, a member of a congregation for 50-something years -- where were those people after his mom died, while he was wandering around alone, desperately seeking Witnesses, for 3 freakin years? No one followed up on him, tried to contact him, made any effort at all? Yeah, Jehovah's loving organization sure takes care of its own! Nice.
UGH. I do not feel encouraged LOL.
