I have just discovered that I am missquoted and misrepresented on the official jw website in regards to the death of my father regarding organ transplants. I have to respond. Any ideas?

I would recommend sending a physical letter to The Watchtower.

Official legal messages should be sent via certified mail.

I don't think that The Watchtower really takes email messages that seriously, especially from people outside their organization.

Here is what they said. Gary Busselman's wife is also mentioned....

    ****************************************

In one example, it is said that an elder in the United States, Arvid Einar Moody, developed renal pain, for which he began the process of dialysis. And, due to the aforesaid negative position presented in The Watchtower, he rejected the offer of a kidney transplant (note that it is not specified if a doctor recommended it or if it alone was an idea that crossed his mind). After years of dialysis, he died in 1978, being almost 68 years old.

The story turns to his daughter Debbie Shard, a former Jehovah's Witness who became an active opposer. Even supposing that belligerence has not influenced the presentation of the facts, we should keep in mind the true historical context of the situation: on the one hand, renal transplants were still a therapy of high risk (more than one third of the patients died within a year), and also that it is recognized that Mr. Moody survived many years due to dialysis. On the other hand, as has been shown, there was no threat of expulsion that existed then that would have influenced his decision.

Also it is said that Jehovah's Witness Delores Busselmann died in 1971 after rejecting transplant therapy. The story, presented by her husband, who today is also an opposer of Jehovah's Witnesses, does not present the matter accurately. Delores Bussellmann suffered leukemia, and she was recommended to have a bone marrow transplant. There are at least two very important aspects to consider:

    • First, that bone marrow transplants then were also an experimental technique and risky. Prior to 1968, a surgeon had managed to perform a bone marrow transplant, but that was between two identical twins where the compatibility is greater (see: http://web.archive.org/web/20050427075323/http://www.marrow.org/NMDP/history_stem_cell_transplants.html#first); and it was not until 1973 (two years after the death of Mrs. Busselmann) that the first bone marrow transplant was performed in the United States, in which the donor and the receiver were not twins.

Nice, huh? Dad stayed on dialysis for several years because having found that the society claimed that it was canabalism and against God's law as told by the society, it was his only alternative. 68 is too young to die. They also have the details all wrong.

    Blondie,

    I found it here: http://geocities.com/jimspace3000/JWstrs/MCB-transp.htm

It appeared to be an official jw site. At second look, it's not. Had me going there for a minute. When you link to the homepage it says it's not official. I'll still have to address it though.

    Update:

I emailed him and acquainted him with the real facts. I told him he had 2 days to either change the info on his site to reflect the true story regarding my dad and myself or remove it altogether. I told him I expected an apology on his site for spreading false information about myself and my dad without even attempting to verify it.

I told him that if that didn't happen, I would 1) inform the society 2) contact my attorney There are laws regarding deffamation of character.

I received an email which said he removed the information on the page and posted an apology. He did. I reviewed the apology, but he only apologized for posting information about me without my permission. I emailed back that he must apologize on his site for posting false information. Honesty about this is the only apology I will recognize, because the existing apology misleads his readers.

    Made some progress at least
