I think the worst Watchtower argument has to be:
Scripture A says the world will be destroyed.
However, scripture B says the world will last forever.
Therefore scripture A must be figurative!
Surely everyone can see the problem with this?

JW Make Paradise Earth? 2 Peter 3:10 says "Nope."
by sacolton in10 but the day of the lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of god, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?.
i remember the long talks on how as dubs would begin to restore earth as a paradise ... how we would have to take all the buildings down (skyscrapers too?

Which would be easier to defend, JWs or Mormons?
by undercover inwhenever i ponder on the beliefs and practices of the mormon church, i wonder how anyone can belief such rubbish.
even when i was an active jw i looked at mormons as down right kooky, what with their special underwear, the book of mormon, the american indians being isrealites, the tablets, etc, etc, etc.
i was glad as a kid that i wasn't mormon because at least as a jw we could drink sodas.... even after i discovered that i was in a f'd up religion and made my way out, i still see mormons as so out there, that there's no way you can defend their beliefs, yet so many people become or remain mormons.. when i compare mormon beliefs with jw beliefs, it seems easier to disprove or discount mormon beliefs vs jw ones.

Are Mormon beliefs kookier than believing a worldwide flood happened four thousand years ago, or that only one language existed in the world before the Tower of Babel was built in 1700BCE? Do Mormons believe these as well?

Thanks anglise, very interesting article, this is one well worth sending to a few JWs. JWs would probably laugh at him, but it looks like he actually has a better prediction rate than the Society ever has!
"The first recorded instances of such predictions are on an Assyrian tablet from around 2800BC which says: “Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs the world is speedily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common.”"
That says a lot... -

Is the Watchtower finally changing for the better?
by Dead Man Joaquin ini'm having a hard time figuring things out here.
the last few years it's become increasingly cultish - i.e.
the public & kool-aid editions, the infamous november(?

I don't think they'll change much more. in recent articles the 'FDS' continue to assert their authority, and rarely ever talk about Jesus.

Faith healing
by Zico inlast month a friend of mine went to a christian conference in the uk, when she told me about this, she was quite excited, apparently, she had witnessed a miracle.
she saw a women's leg grow 1.5 inches!
previously, it had been shorter than the other leg due to a skiing accident, but now, both legs are the same size.

Apparently, the only money my friend spent was when buying a Coffee at the Cafe.
I don't think this is a fraud, Fran is a public figure, she works for BBC radio, and I don't think she'd get away with sharing her testimony on the air, and a BBC article about the story if the whole thing had been invented.
Awakened, No problem. Skepticism is healthy. Note that I haven't said I believe (at least conclusively) that this is a miracle from God, I was just sharing what I thought was a fascinating experience, I do think a leg growing 1.5 inches in a few seconds is no small feat, and she said she'd had this problem since she was 13 so the Doctors couldn't do much about it. If the healer isn't using God, he's still managing to do something quite special.
"Yet he can't seem to heal very real, serious problems, or give amputees their legs or arms back. Why?"
Of course, I don't know the answer this. I'm sure they've had these 'New Wine' conferences near where I live before, maybe I'll visit the next one and see if they can do anything about my sight problem. It's not a real or serious problem, because I can wear glasses, but I don't have anything to lose, and it will be a good experiment. -

Thanks Emo. Very interesting.
Hey Prince, I e-mailed my friend to ask her if any money was involved. I'll get back to you when I know.
Care to add anything more constructive, Shamus? -

There is a video of this on Youtube, and there is even an article on the BBC:

So, what do you think? A fraud, a miracle from God, or something else? -
