Reniaa,
Welcome to the board, I do hope you stick around.
The message JWs preach is different to the one Paul preached:
"Now I make known to you, brothers, the good news which I declared to you, which you also received, in which you also stand, through which you are also being saved, with the speech with which I declared the good news to you, if you are holding it fast, unless, in fact, you became believers to no purpose. For I handed on to you, among the first things, which which I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that he was buried, yes, that he has been raised up the third day, according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve." 1 Cor 15:1-4
He mentions nothing here about a Paradise Earth, or coming Armageddon being included in the "good news" or even no mention of "the Kingdom". Do you know what Paul said about people who preached a different "good news" to him?
"However, even if we or an angel out of heaven were to declare to you as good news something beyond what we declard to you as good news, let him be accursed. As we have said above, I also now say again, Whoever it is that is declaring to you as good news something beyond what you accepted, let him be accursed. " - Galations 1:8,9"
Even if an angel declared a good news different to Paul's he should be accursed! Paul felt so strongly about this, he said it twice! If an angel from heaven should be accursed should not the Society?
On the contrary, Jesus specifically warned to stay away from such 'end-times' messages:
"He replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them." Luke 21:8
What's the point in all their preaching work if they're preaching an accursed message? A message Jesus himself told people to avoid?

Thinking of becoming a Witness again and my reasons for doing so :(
by reniaa ini've been a faded jw for 10 years i left because of my failed first marriage, i'm no hypocrite and realised i had left completely so i embraced the world and dived in, only christmas and birthdays i could not get into, they were too foreign to me having never celebrated them, like if i suddenly tried to do ramadan or something like that.. 1/ all the criticisms of the people in the truth you say on here, i've found in the world, warts and all only in the world nothing holds them back from being utterly horrible to you.. 2/ i got stabbed by a worldly boyfriend, i got married 2 times of my own choosing to men outside the truth, the first smoked and was an alcoholic, the second gambled every penny we had and defrauded me out of money after we separated, 2 divorces later i am currently pregnant and a single mum since current boyfriend decided kids was to much of a responsibility and he needed his freedom and i was 'too selfish to expect him to give up his life'.. 3/ parents-in-law!
i have been shunned by them as equal to anything you accuse witness families of and for the silliest of reasons, i had a disabled son and his grandparents said they wanted nothing to do with him because they didn't want to become attached in case he died.. 4/ i miss the honest friendships of the truth, i had friends of all ages from 14 to 80 years old and they genuinely cared for me, many trying to keep me in the faith a long time after i left but i was determined to fade so moved away completely, but i find friendships in the world so shallow in comparison and very hard to sustain :( i've never been a drinker and sometimes thats what friendship means you being a companion for them to goto pub with.. 5/ my recent boyfriend was in a christian religion, i thought why not find out about it, harvest churches if you ever heard of them, unfortunately it still hasn't stop him leaving me pregnant and alone and when i said to him how does he clear that with god, he replies "as long as i repent it doesn't matter" it's like he has a "get out of jail free card" for any wrong-doing in the bible, this is so alien to me and my witness trained conscience.. 6/ i recently out of frustration tried looking into atheism and joined their forums, it wasn't fun, they are as bombastic and arrogant as their religious counterparts can be from any religion, they make a religion out of not believing in god, it's very weird they talk of saving people from believing in god and offer nothing to replace it.
they said to me "be happy you are in reality now and enjoy it" and i thought "well if this is reality i've had enough of it".

Hitchens with Maher - JWs highest turnover rate.

apologies if this has been posted already..

I find it interesting that the rate of those raised JWs who join another religion is almost equal to the amount who choose to stay in. That's surprised me actually.

As a Witness Did you Feel "Coerced" to be "Used" for " Privileges" ?
by flipper inbeing raised in a fairly prominent witness family was a challenge for me growing up .
my dad was city overseer for 30 years in the same city .
older brother in bethel for 8 years, has been an elder 35 years , an older sister who went to gilead school and regular pioneered for years .

I was pleased to be given more privileges. I saw it as recognition for the hard work I put in on Service, pre-Study, and making sure I attended meetings regularly. I suppose I didn't see activities like doing the mikes, assisting on the Watchtower Counter, being on the Watchtower readers' list etc... as an extra burden anyway, since I regularly attended meetings and pre-studied for meetings anyway.
I can't even remember the last time I did Hall Cleaning... -

If it's the Truth, all you'll get for acting on your homosexual attractions is eternal oblivion. Is that so bad? I assume you dealt with this ok before you were born! Why worry about it in future?

Back sliding
by edmond dantes inthere used to be a nutty expression in the whacktower during the fifties it was the term a backslider .why don't they use it nowadays?
-
Zico
'Backslider' is still a term used in some Christian groups to describe people who have left. It's not a term I like, it places people in groups, like 'apostate' does.

What makes a 'true' christian?
by Caedes inthere are some very sensible christians on this board and some that are not so sensible, what i dont understand is why there isn't more protest when the likes of real one and hibiscusfire claim to know what makes a 'real' christian.
it annoys me and i'm not even a theist, a recent thread on a bible topic had a christian claiming that the bible was worthless unless you believe it to be infallible.
apart from insulting the study of the bible as an important part literary history it also undermines the perfectly valid faith of a majority of christians whose view of the bible isn't so blinkered.. i suppose it is not much different from people claiming that they know what my morals are because i'm an atheist.. what does everyone else think of this kind of fundamentalist thinking.
-
Zico
I don't exactly know how I'd define a 'true' christian. I think I'd place the relationship with/submission to Jesus, as the most important part.
5go:
"A true christian despite what the majority of Christians want to think is anyone that professes to be a christian."
Claiming a label doesn't place me in a group, labels mean something and if I don't live up to that label I can hardly claim it. I can profess to be a pacifist but if I regularly attack people, professing the label won't make me a pacifist. -

Two "Current" Truths that contradict each other
by Honesty indoes anyone wish to compare and tell us how the watchtower society can maintain two conflicting doctrines at the same time?.

"Zico, So do any of the current JWs have a problem with the fact that this January's new light contradicts last January's new light?"
I don't think any of them have noticed StAnn!
