Aleman:
If Moses had said 'You will be in the wilderness for just 20 years!' Do you think they'd have a fair complaint when they reached the 30 year mark?
"It isn't JWs or the WTs falt that you don't wish or don't understand what it is to follow what is true and perfect in this wicked and egotistical world we all live in."
Is it perfect though aleman? They make a lot of mistakes when it comes to interpretation. You might respond 'They're just imperfect men' Yet, the Watchtower Society told me that Moses was also an imperfect man, but that he managed to write perfect biblical texts anyway, and even give the Jews a perfect law, because he had inspiration from God.
Is this right? If so, why doesn't God inspire people his modern day servants?

the text is num.12:1-10.. 1now mir iam and aaron began to speak against moses on account of the cush ite wife whom he had taken, because it was a cush ite wife he had taken.2and they kept saying: is it just by moses alone that jehovah has spoken?
is it not by us also that he has spoken?

Two "Current" Truths that contradict each other
by Honesty indoes anyone wish to compare and tell us how the watchtower society can maintain two conflicting doctrines at the same time?.

Honesty,
In January 2007 the Watchtower gave some 'new light' they said that anointed members wouldn't necessarily be with us when Armageddon came, leading many on the board to speculate they would soon let 'Great Crowd' members on the Governing Body.
It seems the GB must have recognised the problem with 1935 and discussed ways to deal with the problem. If I may speculate, I suspect they came up with the January 2007 'new light' but it wasn't satisfying, so they came up with some new 'new light' printed in the January 2008 Watchtower. i.e. the 144,000 number hasn't been fulfilled yet!
The Revelation book began to be studied in January 2007, at the time the now defunct 'old light' had recently been put in place, but 1935 was still the cut off point. It's too late for them to change it now, but if they ever re-study the Revelation book, I expect they will update this one. That particular quote you linked would actually have been studied in the groups prior to the release and study of the January 2008 Watchtower that features the 'new light' -

Christians: Do You Uphold the Sabbath Law?
by serotonin_wraith inif the biblical commands are to be followed, and god's morality outweighs or controls our own, i must say i feel the law about not working on the sabbath seems to be ignored for the most part.. some of the laws found in the ot have now been set aside by many christians - not stoning disobedient children, for example.
believers may show how jesus' arrival on earth fulfilled certain rules which only applied to the jews of the time.. can the same be said for the sabbath law?
it still appears in the ten commandments, and i was under the impression those rules had to be followed today.. if all sins are equal, it's a little odd how we don't hear of any groups picketing at supermarkets every week with signs saying 'god hates sabbath workers'.

Where I live, hardly anybody's allowed to opens their shops on a Sunday anyway!
Sero:
"In context, isn't the scripture talking about those whose faith is weak not obeying all the laws? See also Romans 14:1-4."
I re-read the whole of Romans 14, and whilst he mentioned people 'weak' in faith, I couldn't see the idea that Paul was only applying Romans 14:5 to letting those 'weak' in faith off observing the Sabbath? Could you expand on how you came to this view?
"If you're right"
What do you mean if I'm right? I was sharing Paul's opinion.
"would you say you follow the nine commandments, or are there others you don't have to follow too?"
Just the 2 laws. (Matt. 22:37-39)
"I would have thought God would have made his word so much easier to understand than this."
I find this statement interesting, what makes you think this? -

Is This a Universal Characteristic of Religion?
by hamilcarr inthanks to all who participated in the moral values discussion, i think it was a 'high'-quality (wink at zico --- from 'the highest year') debate.
some posters rightly claimed i was too rash in my generalisations of religion and atheism.
so, i kept on searching for the universal characteristics of religion, i mean those features common to all forms of worship.

Hi Hamilcarr,
I feel I should add something since you mentioned my name, but I'm not sure what to say!
I don't know about salvation being universal. All religions point to something beyond this life, and connecting to that 'something' whatever that 'something' is believed to be is the purpose of each religion. If connecting to that 'something' constitutes salvation, then I would agree it's a universal characteristic. -

"Can the same be said for the Sabbath law? I don't believe so."
The Apostle Paul thought so - Romans 14:5 -

Australians are very friendly!
I like llbh's suggestion, London is a great city.
You'll probably be surprised by how many people speak English, no matter where you go, however if you choose a country with a foreign language, it's nice to try to learn a bit of their language. They'll appreciate the effort! -

You must have two witnesses to an act of child abuse before the 'alleged' abuser is dealt with.
Debatable whether this is still a rule or not. -

Moral Values of an Atheist
by hamilcarr insome thoughts spinning through my head .... what does it mean to be an atheist?
it means you cannot imagine your homosexual neighbor being slaughtered by a loving god at judgment's day, it means you don't consider the primitive tribe described in numbers 31 that slew midianite men and raped innocent virgins to be god's first covenant people, it means you don't believe mankind is so perverted that it is in need of salvation through a man who came 'not with peace, but with a sword', it means you have high moral values that apply not only to the members of your denomination but to all men.. h. .

I don't know what more you're looking for Hamilcarr, I don't know what else I can add to the thread, and I just feel like I'm repeating myself. Maybe we can just agree to disagree on this one, and look forward to future discussions?
"I just discovered you are born in 1986 too :-)) Vintage year, isn't it?"
1986 is the highest of all years! -

Hamilcarr:
"Maybe my English is too poor to see the semantic difference between experience and experiences apart from the singular versus plural ;-)"
You've lost me on this one. I don't see where singular versus plural comes into it. I asked a question, I didn't make a claim. That's it.
Your English however, is excellent.
"Zico, can you give me some examples?"
Try Belgium.
