  IF GOD COULD DO JUST ONE THING..........

  i asked myself this question recently.. "if god could do just one thing that would make it clear he actually exists in order to convince the world today---what would it be?".

  .

  how would you answer?.

  There are a lot of things that, if they happened, would convince me that god exists without the shadow of a doubt.

  If everyone all over the world had the same dream, on the same night, of the same god, explaining his existence, and what he wanted. And if all the visions were the same (Obviously I wouldn't need the confirmation of everyone on the planet though.) I would be convinced.

  If he gave me a vision of something major that was going to happen, along with an exact date. Something like 9/11 and the twin towers, or hurricane Katrina. If it wasn't vauge, I would be convinced. (You know a simple, "LtCmd.Lore, in exactly 2 months and 6 days a major earthquake will strike New York City." Or even something smaller: "LtCmd.Lore, in exactly 3 months and 2 days your uncle will give you a 50 dollar gift certificate to Radio Shack. Tell no one!")

  Of even if he just appeared to me, while I was perfectly sober, and while I was surrounded by a large amount of perfectly sober and unbiased witnesses. Or if he appeared to me, or spoke to me regularly like he did with Moses.

  In fact, for an all powerfull diety it wouldn't be that difficult to make me believe in him...

  But whether he exists or not it would take quite a bit to convince me that he's worthy of my respect, let alone worship... After thousands of years of letting humans suffer and die, a simple "Hey, I do exist by the way." is hardly enough to wipe the blood off his hands. He'd either have to come to earth begging for forgiveness, or have a pretty darned good excuse.

  Earth not made in 6,000 years - new teaching or was i taught wrong?

  so i was just wondering about what jws think about dinosaurs cos i can't remember it ever coming up when i was one (a jw not a dinosaur!

  ) so i googled the question and looked at a site.

  it says that they are ok with dinosaurs (just not any evolutionary aspect of it) as they do not believe the earth was made in 6 literal days or even 6,000 years, but that the 6 days simply means a period of time, so it could be for any number of years.

  So in summary, when the bible says 'day' it could mean one 24 hour day, 1 year, 1000 years, 7000 years, or 'a period of time'.

  Therefore making pretty much every date in the Bible almost impossible to disprove... but then one has to wonder why the list of days is included in there anyway if it doesn't mean didley squat.

  Heck we've been living in the 'last days' for the past 90 or so years. Why didn't the bible just say, the last decades if that's what it acctualy meant?

  nu 31:17-18 moses, following the lord's command, orders the israelites to kill all the midianite male children and "... every woman who has known man ...." (note: how would it be determined which women had known men?

  one can only speculate.

  dt 21:10-13 with the lord's approval, the israelites are allowed to take "beautiful women" from the enemy camp to be their captive wives.

  Have you noticed that there has not been one single attempt to justify anything that was mentioned so far?

  You know what that indicates to me?

  A: Plenty of Christians have an answer but have no desire to stand up for their gods name.

  B: Not a single Christian happened to click on this topic.

  Or C: Lots of Christians have read this topic, but not one of them can think of a single justification.

  I'm a little disapointed that nobody has anything to say in the bible's defence. I was kind of looking forward to it.

  kate and i were having a discussion (with some differences of opinion .

  what if there were no "total posts" listed under your screen name?

  what if there were no such tags as "newbie, junior, senior, etc., etc., etc.," or "forum assistant, administrator.".

  It used to be important to me, at the very beginning.

  But later on, I noticed that some people, with only a hundred or so posts were very intelligent and interesting people, and they only had a few posts because they only talk when they have something intelligent to add to the conversation. Likewise some people who have thousands of posts can say some pretty stupid things, but they talk a lot.

  Now I don't judge a person untill I've seen them in an intelligent debate. I just hope that other people notice what I say and not the fact that I'm a 'junior member' or even that I'm only 17.

  Would you mind explaining why what stealth said was any less convincing than when you said:

Note that the entire topic is about the atrocities commited by god in the bible, you have so far made four posts in a row, talking about everything but that! Avoiding the question are you? Well I don't blame you, it's like trying to defend Hitler. Unfortunately though you seem to think that insulting those who disagree with you, or questioning their motives counts as a defense.   how did the kangaroo, the koala bear, and the platypus get from noah's ark to australia?

  I heard somebody argued that the people who went there must have taken animals and plants with them by boat....

  Which begs the question: Why did the people bring rattle snakes, deadly spiders, kangaroos, aligators, and other such useless/dangerous beasties?

  I reccomend we all print this out and mail it to some of our nearby congregations... that would be halarious if they read it at the next service meeting... then have to explain that it was fake whenever they find out.

  i'm studying environmental science right now and our course has been on pollution/extinction and things that we as humans are doing to our earth.

  i thought this article was interesting...scarey...but interesting.

  because of pollution, we are causing some life forms to actually change what they were meant to be.
