i'm studying environmental science right now and our course has been on pollution/extinction and things that we as humans are doing to our earth.

i thought this article was interesting...scarey...but interesting.

because of pollution, we are causing some life forms to actually change what they were meant to be.

This sounds like the effect of endocrine disruptors. In my industry (paint and coatings) there is a widespread move to eliminate alkyphenyl ethoxylates (which are used as pigment dispersants) because they degrade to substances which can mimic oestrogen.

Ouch... that hurt my brain...

Things like this always end up in more ad hominem debates than acctual answers...

The people who believe the bible will say that scientists only want to make money off of it. Which has nothing to do with whether or not it's true.

And the people who believe the scientists will say that the people that reject it are simply determined to believe the Bible no matter what. Which once again has nothing to do with whether their claims are correct or not.

If you have nothing to debate other than the motives of the other side, maybe you're on the wrong side.

Maybe I don't want to live in Paradise

when i was a teenager, and really trying hard to be a "super witness" i remember thinking that if all the wicked people were destroyed, how would this change our everyday life.. what happends to the people that supply electricity, water, garbage collection, gas, fuel for cars, mechanics, farmers, cattle herders, etc.... how would we survive?

if armafoggeten happened in the winter would those in colder climates die?.

i you were on some sort of medical equipment that required electricity, would you die if there is no one a run to work in the electrical plant?.

If their food is perfect and their bodies are perfect,...my guess is that there will be no more pooping.

The paradise concept is story concocted by the WTBS to put the "other sheep" somewhere. Even though a peaceful time is alluded to from time to time in scripture, it is not clear in the very least.

Yeah, and then they make fun of other religions because the word 'trinity' doesn't apear in the bible...

Well neither does 'Governing Body' 'Disfellowship' or 'Paradise Earth'

(I promised myself I wouldn't make any sly remarks about the 'Lt Love' thing...)

Anyways, a lot of witnesses have really weird ideas about what paradise would be like... Some of them that I know think humans would be able to fly. (Based on the 'god will fullfill every desire' scripture) Some of them think that they'll all be naked, because clothes are only neccesary for imperfect people. Most of them think that they won't be allowed to eat meat. And some of them think that they won't have any electricity or modern machinery...

So if they're right, we end up with a bunch of naked caveman/hippies flying around hunting for fruit and berries for all eternity. (Yeah I know that's not what most of them think, but I thought it was funny enough to mention.)

With god all things are possible...

Forget about the horrors that arise from spending an eternity with nothing but dubs... I wouldn't want to live under Jehovahs 'protection' at all!

He's capable of saying 'be gone' and eliminating all the bad guys in a fraction of a second, no mess or suffering... but what does he do? He makes Noah build an ark, which theoreticaly took over 50 years of work, then he made him spend a year in an animal infested poop pit of a boat.

He could have given the Israelites everything they wanted... but he gave them one kind of food every day for 40 years, and they had to BEG for water before they got it. (And then they got in trouble for that yet.)

He made them waste forty years of their lives wandering about in the wilderness. Why? Because they didn't quite trust him to help them in battle... then after the forty years is up, he orders them to battle, and lets them hanging because ONE GUY took some money and clothes. (Yeah good thing they trusted him!)

So maybe all things are possible with god, but given his past record it's highly unlikely that you can count on him for a happy life. He talks a big game, but when he acctualy ends up having to do something, you end up with worm infested manna and a stinky boat. (Note: You provide the boat, and collect the rotting manna.)

If the bible is from God then explain this!

nu 31:17-18 moses, following the lord's command, orders the israelites to kill all the midianite male children and "... every woman who has known man ...." (note: how would it be determined which women had known men?

one can only speculate.

dt 21:10-13 with the lord's approval, the israelites are allowed to take "beautiful women" from the enemy camp to be their captive wives.

I was a kid at the time so I just swallowed that pill, but of course my mother couldn't name any said "archaeologists".

Funny how that works isn't it? They say that 'many' scientists believe in god, but ask them to name just one and they draw a blank... Or mention someone like a mathematician who would be no more qualified to tell if god exists than the average Joe. Or worse yet, like they did in that Awake about evolution, only quote Jehovahs Witnesses about it... (!? Right after accusing evolutionists of being biased, they donate several pages to only Jehovahs Witnesses, most of which were elders or pioneers longer than they were scientists.)

I guess if the WT explanation for the killing of the Israelites is true we are guilty of being born as well and it sort of throws the whole free will theory out the window.

Exactly... so basicaly god could have said: "Hey I'm bored, and while I realize that you haven't done anything wrong, I'm gonna kill all your firstborns just so you know who's boss." And that would have been completely acceptable, because we all inherited sin from Adam, right?

Got proposed to today

a very nice lady and very pretty who has been coming in for a few weeks now, is starting to become a fatal attraction.. she comes in for the most idiotic requests and has asked me out numerous times.

i keep giving her some excuse for not going out.. i can't tell her i am gay as that can destroy everything at work here.. any ideas?

i don't want to hurt her feelings or stop her from spending her money here as well as sending her friends and neighbors.

Buy a wedding band, and just wear it at work... Or tell her you want to stay single... Or go on a date, and pretend to have mental condition... Tell her you're a Jehovahs Witness... (See option 3)

Do you Sudoku?

i tried the one in the newspaper the other day and just about solved it.

but thought i should start small and work my way up to get a better understanding of how it's played.. so i picked up a sudoku mag at target the other day.

it's an easy one and i'm really getting the hang of it and enjoying it.
