I like asparagus. I can eat it plain as a vegetable sidedish but I am not that crazy about it but in an omelette it is divine! I use the frozen variety because it is firmer. I slice it into small pieces and put it directly into the egg mixture. I find I do not have to add milk or water to the eggs as the asparagus makes a nice moist omelette naturally through its own juices.

Is the World Really More Violent Today?
by nvrgnbk ina quick perusal of the bible reveals an extremely violent world.. any brief study of human history reveals acts of barbarism and bloody atrocities dispersed across millenia .. is the world of today perhaps safer than ever?.

To me this is an interesting question considering this is one of the big subjects that I have with my diehard dub mother. As would be expected, listening to the doomsayer religion she is in, she is conviced that the world is more violent.
That being said I have done some research into this subject, of course never bookmarking the sites, and found an overwhelming consensus that this is just not the case. As has been brought out by the article blackswan imbedded things are not any more violent. I read an article once that stated, with statistics, it is because there are many more people there seems to be more crime. They stated that statistically crime has basically been the same meaning crimes with a per person ratio (per capita). For example, and my numbers are not actual, let's say there is 1 murder per 10,000 people alive. Statistically it has been shown that to always being the case. Granted it varies per year but basically it is the same.
In my conversations with my mother she says "but we hear more about (insert problem here) than we ever have." That is true. But she does not understand that things have changed information wise. Let's say just 50 years ago, news came from a very limited area. They had local news on television, radio and newspapers. Then it increased to national and international news. Now we have the internet which brings in even more information than we have ever seen before. And let's face it, bad news is a bigger moneymaker for newspeople than good news.
I think this can be compared with jw's and the scriptures they use to 'prove' their doctrines. They use singled out scriptures but yet they do not read the scriptures before and after to get the meaning in context. I think that looking at crimes from many different angles to see why it 'appears' to be worse gives you a better more accurate idea of what is really happening.

I am not website savvy so I don't know if this means the site is closed or not.
The site does state, as scully mentioned, it is doing "spring cleaning" but if you notice at the bottom of the page it says:
This page was last modified 04:52, 28 May 2006.
To me closed means you cannot get in or that it is gone much like a business that has a closed sign in the window. This looks to me to be more of a neglected site.

Paris Hilton sent back to jail
by free2beme inthey sent paris hilton back to jail.
as i have expressed on here many time, paris hilton is my least favorite of the hollywood people.
so, seeing her escorted from the court to the police car like a common criminal, while she yelled for her mother, ...... .

it is not fair to then send Hilton back to jail.
I have to respectfully disagree. At first I thought that IF she was having a serious health issue, then she should be sent home with an ankle bracelet. On the news tonight here, it was told that indeed she did have a medical problem but that it was flaring because she chose not to take the proper medicine for it. That is her own freaking fault! SHE is physically an adult but not acting like it.
Also, the other reason given, in the news, was because the prison was overcrowded. My first thought, at the time and still is,...let out someone else with the same offence that was there longer. Don't give "miss prissy" higher precedence.

Due to many posts here about how jw's seem to not be able to spell, I find this funny (this is the first car on the inventory list):
2006 Impala SS Sedan Mileage: 4,600 Color: Laser Blue Metallic with Gray Leather Interior Condition: Excellent Description: For Sale. This car was special ordered, but never purchased. Like new with power windows and locks, power driver and power passenger seats, 18' Aluminum wheels, heated leather seats, CD, MP3, XM Satellite Radio with Bose Premium Speaker Sound, fog lamps, remote start, and much more! This SS has the 5.3L 303HP Small Block V8 Engine, dual exhaust and has a MPG rating of 18 city, 28 highway. Original sticker is $31,415 - priced to sell at $19,995
18'? That is a damned BIG set of wheels. 18 foot? It should have read 18" (or 18 inches to those who know the difference between (') and (").

Since this subject hits very close to home (stepson in prison right now for meth) I could only read the first page.
RR, that's just plain gross! But that is what happens when a person gets that addicted, and it can be quick. One hit can do it.
As far as ingredients go, I looked it up. Here they are:
Alcohol - Gasoline additives or Rubbing Alcohol ? Ether (starting fluid) ? Benzene ? Paint thinner ? Freon ? Acetone ? Chloroform ? Camp stove fuel ? Anhydrous ammonia ? White gasoline ? Pheynl-2-Propane ? Phenylacetone ? Phenylpropanolamine ? Rock, table or Epsom salt ? Iodine crystals ? Red Phosphorous ? Toluene (found in brake cleaner) ? Red Devil Lye ? Drain cleaner ? Muraitic acid ? Battery acid ? Lithium from batteries ? Sodium metal ? Ephedrine ? Cold tablets ? Diet aids ? Iodine ? Bronchodialators ? Energy boosters
Starting fluid? Paint thinner? Freon, FGS! You need a special license even to use that stuff. The one that really gets me is Red Devil Lye. I used to make home made soaps with lye in it. You can't even stand close to the tub you are mixing it in let alone injest the crap.
I have seen the damage done to people on this crap and the devastation in their lives. Don't people learn?
Apparently not. Sad.

I was DF'd in 1989 and decided to get reinstated. Totally for family. In about 1990 I was in the hospital because I tried to commit suicide and my parents NEVER once came to the hospital for me. They now think that they did good because they called me on the phone. Don't get me wrong, I was happy they even took the time to call my "ass," but in the meantime, it sucked because they could not even take the time to see me in person. Can ya just feel the love?
Anyway, I digress.
This is not even the reason I left. I left when I got reinstated in 1995. My daughter, who at the time was well entrenched in "the truth" told me that she had never seen anyone "study" as much as I did. It drove her absolutely crazy. And she was an active witless. I love her to this day and I am happy to say that she eventually "saw the light" and now is not a witless.
Again, I digress.
In 1995 I was reinstated. Funny thing about it was that I was so stressed that I felt I had to go to the meetings drunk or even on the brink of it. No one noticed, apparently. My non-jw husband was with me in the grocery store, searching for more booze, when we encountered an elder in my committee. He and his wife went against the rules and had just left a "worldly" wedding. tsk, tsk. Anyway, he told me in the grocery store that the elders wanted to talk to me because I was to be reinstated. Good on one hand because I would get my family back but bad because I never once quit smoking. (Convenient since I was married to a "worldly" man and he smoked so no one noticed by smell that it was not just him but me that was smoking.
OK, that is still not telling the whole story.
There were 2 (maybe more?) reasons that made me leave.
(1) The first thing that got to me, was one morning I was to go out into servitude. I walked by my diningroom table and looked down at a "witchtower" and saw a pic of the Pope. Yet again they were blasting other religions. Since then I have, because of being here, seen the pattern of "it wasn't me/us" attitude. Very sociopathic. I felt at the time that it was arrogant on their part, and because of personal experience, I felt that one (even an organization) should stand on their own merits rather than trying to make themselves look better when they have masses of people waiting on their every word as to who you can/cannot associate with, how you should conduct yourself at a convention...etc. At that moment I had an epiphany. I am an adult and I have a mind of my own and no one, and I mean no one should tell me what to do. As a witless I always let others dictate what/how I should feel. I felt anger at that moment at the control over me.
(2) And to me this was the end of the end. I was out in servitude and I remember talking to a man who objected to what we were doing. He felt that we should not push our beliefs on others. I then did the jw thing and started with rebuttals (sp.) I remember standing there listening to this man, thinking about what I had said to him, thinking about the fact that I kept over riding his objections yet never actually processing what he was saying. Even in the middle of this I thought "I'm a salesman/person."
Until I came onto this board I never realised that others felt/feel the same way. I never thought of the babble society as controlling me. I did however figure it out and I am so happy I am out.

Strange Talks
by AgentSmith inthe thread regarding how the ms and elders keeping up the facade while knowing its all wrong made me think of something.. this happened in the ministerial service meeting.
the ms started his part on the program but it was soon evident that he was not firing on all cylinders.
his speech was monotone, slurred even.

I have to absolutely LOL at this. If I had been sipping my morning java it might have been all over my screen.
I remember in 199* don't remember the exact year. I was disfellowshipped and trying to get reinstated. First off...I never quit smoking, but "worldly" hubby did so I missed that bullet by a mile. What I absolutely did not understand was going to the hell absolutely drunk, and better yet....meeting an elder in a public place to tell me the elders wanted to meet with me to tell me I was reinstated. Now get this, he and his wife were coming home from a worldly wedding and hubby and I were there (drunk, of course) looking to buy more alcohol.
