YPA change of picture
by dozy inanybody got any idea why the cover picture on the young people ask book was changed?
they removed the picture of the boy bottom right & superimposed a different head.
maybe the guy got dfd or maybe it was to change it to an asian guy rather than 2 caucasians?

Lords Witnesses - JW splinter group - latest predictions
by dozy inamongst the many jw splinter groups , the "lords witnesses" are amongst the more interesting / amusing / depressing ( delete as applicable ).
the de-facto leader , gordon ritchie , was quite a well known jw in the uk in the past.
there was an amusing article in the times about him a few years ago ( https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/the-end-of-the-world-is-nigh-its-name-is-gordon-g3qxf8w5fn9 ) firewall / free to subscribe.

Feigning illness to miss a meeting
by dozy inas jws , we all remember the thought of dragging oneself out of bed on a nice sunny sunday meeting or getting home tired after a hard day at work contemplating another boring , pointless , repetitive weekday evening meeting.. as the only legitimate reason for missing a meeting is illness , the only way for anyone to avoid a meeting that they really couldn't be bothered to go to ( ie most of them ) is to "pretend" to be ill. so given an average meeting attendance of 60% or so , invariably many people would be missing , presumed dead ( or "ill".
we used to have a congregation game of football ( soccer ) on a sunday afternoon and it always amused me how many jws who were "too ill" to attend the meeting on the morning would suddenly recover , lazarus style , to play without exhibiting any signs of the apparently near fatal acute health condition of that morning.
one of the more officious elders tried to introduce a rule that the only ones who could play would have to have been at the meeting that morning , but in practice it was very difficult to police and the better players tended to be the ones who missed most meetings.. one of the problems was the risk that some well meaning and / or nosey jw would phone up ( or even turn up , unannounced ) at the house to see "how you were" and clearly it didn't go down too well if they found you in rude health chasing the dog or kids around the garden..

Article in Times (UK) newspaper today about Bretheren
by dozy inthere is an article in todays times newspaper about the exclusive brethren which is a not dissimilar group to the jws in th uk ( shunning , no xmas , everyone outside of the group is worldly & bad association etc.
) there is a 2 spread page inside the paper with experiences from those who have been disfellowshipped etc.. the charities commission are looking into the group which claims millions in tax reliefs.
i get the impression they are starting to clamp down on the many religions / pseudo religions that claim this.. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/faith/article4384092.ece.

Is the number of JWs leaving increasing?
by dozy ini don't mean jws getting stumbled or bored or getting dfd for immorality- there always have been a certain number of those all the time.. i've been out for a few years now but am curious to know from "still ins" if there is any evidence of increasing numbers of people leaving for classic "apostate" reasons - ie either fading or getting dfd because they have done research & realise that this isn't "the truth".. when i was a jw occasionally i would hear of someone suddenly stopping going to meetings & hearing through the grapevine & jw gossip mill that the person no longer believed it was the truth or had expressed doubts in the "slave" etc.
but it didn't happen very often ( though it was increasing somewhat in the years before i left).. one would imagine with the internet & increased information available to all that this would be happening more often.
any evidence of this , anecdotally?

Baptisms only at regional ( district ) assemblies from 2014 / 15 service year?
by dozy injust a rumour but i guess it makes sense - i've a friend on a circuit committee ( he knows it's not "the truth" but for family & work reasons he stays in ) & he says that the wtbts have told them not to book a swimming pool for next years one day assemblies as the plan is to have only one baptism a year at the main regional ( what they used to call "district" ) convention.. with the drop off in baptisms so that sometimes there isn't anyone baptised or just a handful , i guess this is inevitable.
i remember going to a baptism a few years ago - we had hired a municipal 25 metre swimming pool and only one person ( a rather confused and scared middle aged lady who hadn't been in a swimming pool since her youth ) was being baptised - it was all something of a farce with the "worldly" staff looking on very puzzled at such an elaborate & expensive ceremony for one person.
) also with both assemblies being one day with just short morning & afternoon sessions , i suppose it is sensible to ditch the baptism talk - it tends to be something of a snoozefest anyway at the end of the morning session.
