In many UK circuits the CO stays in a flat which is owned by a JW. Usually they are entitled to housing benefit , so effectively the taxpayer pays for the rent. Most COs used to say that they didn't like Kingdom Hall flats because they sometimes got hassle from vandals or kids hanging around etc , to retain charitable status they were registered as "caretakers" so were expected to do occasional maintenance such as painting or cutting the grass and also it was very handy for elders and JWs from the congregations that used the hall to "drop in" with their problems etc. They generally much preferred the anonymity of a flat which hardly anyone knew the address of.

Olympic games/ jw.org keep on the watch
by Gorb inthe main article on jw.org is about the succesfull olympic games 2024 in paris.. many withness watch all the sport episodes of the games, but jw.org comes with a sour story about the games and not reaching real peace.. again jw.org is on the wrong side of history a d doesn't feel the public anx jw opinion.
the closing remarks of the ioc president bach, thaf the games will not reach peace but plant peace in the hart of people was a strong message.. the organization and message of the games is all that jw.org wants to, but can't.. very sad and narrow minded, as ever.

I remember a magazine route I had complaining that "your organisation never has anything positive to say about anything other that itself" after a similar article many years ago. Frankly I used to hate these kind of articles - it just feels like the Olympics are getting all the coverage so the Org feels it needs to publish something "topical".
Why couldn't the article highlight anything positive about the Olympics - for example , at the end of the heptathlon all of the entrants stood together. A British doctor saved the life of an Uzbekistan coach in the boxing who had a heart attack. Over 45,000 volunteers from over 100 lands supported the running of the games. And surely the aim that people should get fit and be healthy is something that even the Org would support - frankly , some of the GB should take note.
And of course - the side point that the JW belief is that such worldwide unity will ultimately be achieved with the genocide of over 99.9% of the worlds population is not mentioned.

Notice the GB member is standing rather than sitting behind his desk. I've noticed newsreaders are often doing that now , wanting to appear less formal I guess. Unfortunately the GB member doesn't quite have the physique of most of the newsreaders though.

How Do Jehovah's Witnesses View Education?
by southyukon ini have a question about this article.. https://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/jw-education-school/.
higher education can lead to moral and spiritual dangers.
a bible proverb says: "the shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself.

Any JW elder who encourages his child to go to university stands the huge risk of being removed from his position.

What exactly do they mean by "being blessed by Jehovah" by giving more? They are increasingly sounding like the sleazy "God TV" style American TV evangelists.

The picture is a bit misleading , as the "prospective" couple look about mid 20's. In most congregations they would long since have been married by that age.

Can Elders Voluntarily Resign?
by NotFormer inan elder with half a brain (and they must exist 🧐) is going to see the writing on the wall with the way the wt is manoeuvring them into taking the fall over csa cases.
can an elder in good standing step down with no consequences, official or social?.

Yes - they can resign -I just said I had a few issues and needed to spend more time with my family. Some of the other elders tried to get me to change my mind but by then I was absolutely PIMO and knew it wasn't the truth.
no-zombie is correct - almost overnight my status had changed from someone always involved in the meetings , giving talks at assemblies etc to zero - I wasn't even doing microphones! Our social circle changed - suddenly the occasional meals or drinks with other elders stopped and the rest of the cong viewed me with some detachment. I remember sitting in an incredibly boring meeting hearing the GB being venerated and wondering what on earth I was still doing there. That was my last meeting (other than a Memorial as my wife was still attending.)

So, 60 Years Ago
by titch inso, folks, 60 years ago, starting on september 1st, i believe, we, local witnesses in southern california, had the "privilege" of attending the "around the world assembly", at, of all places, the rose bowl, in pasadena.
(i think that it was an 8-day assembly) i was 9 years old then, almost ready to start 4th grade.
so, was anyone else, on this site, at that assembly?

Ironically probably the one thing I miss most about the Org are those large stadium conventions. There seemed to be something special about them , with the big tent "cities" etc.

More than 17 years of service to the XJW community!
by Nathan Natas ini want to take a moment to salute rick fearon, an "apostate" near boston massachusetts usa who more than 17 years ago started the sixscreens telenetwork on youtube.
you can find it here: https://www (dot) youtube (dot) com/ (at) araretreat/streams.. like our benevolent host simon green here at jehovahs-witness.com, rick has not done his great work for his own financial enrichment or to collect followers for himself, as some xjw grifters have done and continue to do.. saturdays and sundays are the busy days at six screens, with call-in programs like:.

Such a contrast to the numerous Bethelites kicked out at short notice with absolutely zero. The Society certainly is basically a real estate flipping business nowadays - doubtless in buying 2 units with cash so promptly they got a significant discount from the developer. They will be assuming Tony , with his obesity and (possibly) alcohol problems will not be staying long in the property and they will be quietly sold , with the usual tax free profits.
