It irks me when they trash talk the government, yet I recently met an older couple who lived in free housing with free utilities, had handicapped license plates and got SSI benefits. They don't ever trash talk "them" benefits. -

Question about baptism around 1973- can anyone answer for me?
by Virgochik ini am hoping someone will take a look at this and be able to help me with my question.. i was baptized in 1973, you know, because i was a teenager and old enough to stand on my own when armageddon descended in 1975. .
perhaps elders, or any former elders especially, but anyone who was around then could help me with this question, because i honestly don't recall, and really need to know.. what were the baptismal questions the candidates responded to back then?
were we still asked if we repented of our sins, turned around, and were being baptized in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit?.

You guys are awesome! Thanks to all of you for the information. It's exactly what I needed. It sounds to me as if my baptism was a legitimate one, standard questions any church would ask, and without that reference to the Watchtower Society that makes me cringe. -

Hello, everyone. I am hoping someone will take a look at this and be able to help me with my question.
I was baptized in 1973, you know, because I was a teenager and old enough to stand on my own when Armageddon descended in 1975.
Perhaps elders, or any former elders especially, but anyone who was around then could help me with this question, because I honestly don't recall, and really need to know.

The reason I'm asking is, I'm attending a non-denominational church that I really enjoy, and I see them doing baptisms. I know not everyone here feels this way, but I personally want to be saved and accept Jesus as my savior. I wonder if my JW baptism is valid, or if I will want to have it redone at the church. It all depends I guess, on what I agreed to in 1973 and what the baptismal questions were. I know the current questions have been changed.

by ttdtt inlong video i guess addressing the many hard feelings of people getting the axe at brooklyn and other facilities.. the gist is - thanks for your help, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I couldn't watch it all. What a disgusting, hot steaming load of hogwash! My impression of him is that he's nervous and knows he's putting over lies and baloney. I hear insincerity in his voice. This isn't someone I'd trust if I met him doing business. Red flags went up for me.
Then there's the actual message which is ridiculous. Really, does God need to adjust so often because he didn't get it right? Is God so similar to a human sailor? Silly, just silly juvenile reasoning. I don't even know what to say for people who buy this stuff.

Why are witnesses all so highly stressed?
by stuckinarut2 inwitnesses are so anxious, stressed, highly strung..... so much for ones who are supposed to be "the happiest people"..... thoughts?.

Then there's the constant critique of what you're wearing, especially for sisters. I was so concerned that, gasp, my skirt might creep up while seated, and horrors, my kneecap might peek out. I got told once to put my coat over my lap so I wouldn't have to worry. I was so worried about appearance that I barely heard the talks. A wardrobe malfunction at the Hall means your knees were showing!
You'd get talked to if you weren't dressed properly as a Christian sister should be. The stress began before you even arrived at the meeting, followed by the stink eye and loving counsel. Who needs it. Jesus wasn't all hung up on what people were wearing.

It can be hard to afford two different sets of clothes- work clothes and meeting clothes. Sisters especially, flock to Goodwill like geese around corn. Sadly, most can't afford anything else, so it's not from a choice to shop there. It's from the JW lifestyle keeping them poor, and having to build up a wardrobe of Kingdumb Hall clothes anyway.
It made me mad that I had to wear skirts and dresses to the Hall. What, God doesn't love us in pants? We were born without clothing, so I don't see where he's impressed by what we wear. But yeah, I hear about Goodwill a lot from my mom and her friends. It's heavily frequented by JW's. If you don't care to run into them, it's a good place to stay away from. They do have lots of good t shirts and sweaters tho.

I saw a car group of sisters a couple of streets from my apartment complex. I was out walking and they caught my attention because it's odd to see three women walking down the sidewalk in skirts. They left an invitation on the door of a vacant house with a Remax sign out front. Every day when I walk, it's still on the door, telling everyone the house is empty.
Strangely, it doesn't appear they came to my apartments, tho it's not a gated community. A nearby Baptist church came through today and left flyers for Easter services.

I made it to three minutes before I bailed. What's going on with him, I wonder. He's almost mumbling, as if extremely tired or ill. Maybe he's exasperated with having to explain his point to the riff raff. They should just do as they're told. Send in the donations, do as we say, and we'll all get along fine! -

Blondie, I remember Rueben Cobos from northwest Indiana in the 70's! Our district included south suburban Chicago. We used the ass-embly hall on 79th & Ashland Ave, a very bad area. Small world.
Anyway, lucky me received a trip to Bethel when I was about 16 years old. Evidently my lukewarm attitude at the Hall indicated the trip to Mecca might spark enthusiasm in me. My aunt and uncle took me. TG they were bubbley, sociable folks who were more into eating out and shopping. Unfortunately, I was bored out of my mind with the Watchtower buildings, but the tour of the Bowery and NYC sights was interesting.

New BBC article on JW abuse
by snare&racket inis religion doing enough to root out abuse?.
he would go upstairs, on the premise that he was saying a prayer with his niece, then sexually abuse her.
mark sewell was sentenced to 14 years in prisonafterwards, the elders told her that as it was only her account against that of sewell, nothing more could be done.

Good Lord, they are full of excuses for not doing anything! Even where multiple children are molested by the same "brother", they find reasons to discount the statements. If 100 kids were assaulted, but they didn't see it happening to the other 99, then there weren't two witnesses, so nothing happened!
What will it take to make the Old Gibbering Buzzards care?
