i sometimes wonder if perhaps some of the higher ups in the organization are visiting this forum.
perhaps it has become a valuable source for them to "test the waters" before something goes public to see what the reaction would be?
am i overreacting?

after reading all those threads and articles about how much money the wtbts has squirreled away and invested and after volunteering to serve birthday cupcakes and punch at a homeless shelter run by the combined efforts of first presbyterian church and first methodist in downtown dallas, i have decided that i want my money back.. i want back every single cent that i ever contributed to that jabba the hut of an organization that just sits on its money and never uses a penny of it to benefit its members or the rest of humanity.
i want back the $10,000 that my dad "loaned" the society in the 1970's that they -- 10 years later -- strongly suggested he just give to them to save them the trouble of writing a check.. i want to be paid for the 13 years of regular pioneer service that i wasted on that organization.
let's see, at roughly 100 hours a month (that's what the requirement was back then), 1200 hours a year times 13 + 15,600. hmmm, okay, i'll take minimum wage for it -- isn't that $6.50 an hour now?
Good Post!
Very few remember the old days when we were required to put in 1200 hours. In 1970, I missed my time 3 hours for the year, ( I got 1197), and being full of virtue, like I thought they were, I turned in the 1197. You can't believe the letter that I received from them!!!
Basically, it was, "Brother, if you can't do any better than that, possibly you should consider leaving the full time service and being a good publisher."
Talk about hurt. Especially now in view of the half-time pioneers that they have now, cause they wouldn't have any if the requirements were like they used to be.
Don't hold your breath for your refund.
By the way, DO I have the some stories from you from Cassville!
Wow, you pioneered a long time!

aight.
i was raised in the jws, but i'm still young (22) and all my life what i've been told is that the society never really promoted 1975 as the definitive year for the coming of armageddon.
what i was always told is that some overzealous witnesses took certain things out of context and developed a very extreme reaction - ie selling their houses, quitting their jobs, dropping out of school, etc.
A lot more was said specifically about 1975 than written, although as you can see from the various quotes that they were saying plenty. Not much deniability available, but since they rely on dissonance, they don't need much.
My mother in law sold her home in 1968 and apportioned her money so as to have it last until 1975, then she and her three daughters pioneered until the money ran out, and then got supplementary work and kept it up until about 80.
Many of these people were laying it all on the line for 75.
When some left the org after 75 feeling down and out, the org criticized them for serving with a date in view. You just can't win if you play by their rules.

his faithful servants--only jws, not "so-called" christians.
7 a second point that we can draw from peter's words is that jehovah is patient because he desires all to attain to repentance.
"consider the patience of our lord as salvation," wrote peter to fellow christians.
Patience or patient--42 times in one article, a new worlds record.

i am wondering, what made all of us different?
to explain.
obviously most all of us here were at one time brainwashed and endoctrinated with the rest of the rank and file of jw's.
In my entire sojourn as a witness it seemed that I was different than most of the others.
I took the whole thing very seriously, raised 4 kids to pioneer, missionary, and Bethel service. All the while it seemed that we all had a target on our backs.
I don't think that I ever accepted certain teachings, the great tribulation, 144,000 being literal, birthdays. But I thought these things didn't really mean that much.
After 75 I was really miffed, not that they missed the date, because I never accepted that anyway, but I was mad because they sought to blame it on all of the rest of us, and they didn't apologize until 1981, and then not much of an apology.
Then, in the 80's the "faithful and discreet slave" push was really on and I resented every WT and book that pushed the FDS issue into our face. I used to get so mad I would cuss. My wife agreed with me too.
Then the 90's came with the great apostasy. The 95 WT unhooking them from 1914, change in neutrality and voting, then finally a statement in the 97 WT that Jehovah would "never" replace this org with another. (I went cross-eyed crazy with that one).
I finally resigned as an elder in 2000, after 30 years. Then in 2002 we heard about the UN deal. I didn't want to believe it at first, but the proof was there. Then, all the Awake articles pushing UN programs. Finally, last June 2005, hearing at the Dist Conv. that we should be obedient, no matter whether they are right or wrong. The closing prayer was it, "...we give our whole souled allegiance to Jehovah's visible organization"... (Losch).
Never went back.
I am proud to say that my wife, my oldest son (8 years full time and Bethel) and his wife, my oldest daughter (7 years full time pioneer and Ecuador missionary) and her husband (pioneer and MS), and my youngest daughter (1 year pioneer, recently abandoned by her witness husband), have all given up on the WT also.
Believe it or not, I was the last to let go.
I have one son still an MS in Austin. TX that thinks we are the apostates and this in spite of the fact that he thinks the FDS is now really being led by the Evil Slave, and that he doesn't use the mags in service and he doesn't believe or accept a lot of the doctrines.

if you could rent a bill board where you knew jehovah's witnesses would see it, what would you put on it to try to effectively reach them?
and don't forget that lots of other people would see it to.
maybe the regular joe would be able to develope some good questions from your ad too.

are they in their best moments right now, since they never had as many witnesses as now worldwide, or were their best days somewhere in 1950's or 60's or 70's before deception set it.
did the watchtower ever have any credibility somewhere in time?
Garybuss,
You said the following:
That complacency ended in 1966 with the start of the most successful mistake the Society ever made.
I'm simply amazed how reactive the Society has become. This Corporation has never really recovered from the failure of 1975. Quite a few Witnesses saw the failure of 1995 as confirmation of the 1975 failure. They endured the 1975 failure but they refused to endure the confirmation.
You sure know how to cut through the crap and get to the point.
Still enjoying your wisdom.
