having prayed to 'jehovah' all my life i feel a little strange right now as whenever i use that name i think of being a witness and i don't really want to have those associations.
also it seems that friends and family think its a big deal that the borg has taught us god's name and we ought to be eternally grateful to them for that alone!
however, i have suddenly realised that even though my mother has a 'name' i always call her mum and would never dream of calling her by her 'name' as i wouldn't feel as close to her, so i starting to just call my creator my heavenly father - i do know a christian who calls god 'daddy' but that is just a step too far for me just now.... thoughts?

would you ever use witchcraft?.
do you think witchcraft is dangerous?.
do you think witchcraft is just a set of delusions based on ancient superstition?.
Well, I think all the effects of spells are psychological, but assuming you don't,
I can only speak for myself and make assumptions about what I think you mean, so forgive me if I'm off the mark on either. What I think you are saying is that all spells, ritual, magick is "In your head" and therefore, your opinion would be that because it is psychological, or all in your head, somehow diminishes it to insignificance.
Whereas I say, absolutely it is psychological--absolutely it is all in my head but where you would say that this diminishes it, I say it empowers it exponentially. Because I come from the point of departure that the human mind is infinitely powerful. It is the seeding for all that we "see", feel, touch and measure. It's the grid.
My opinion of ritual is that there is a part of us that ritual speaks to beyond words...you could say "I want to drive a Mercedes M Class", but putting that intention into a psyco-drama (ritual) in order to speak to that part of yourself that communicates and imbibes without (or beyond) language, is what ritual accomplishes, imho.
I personally use ritual to an ever growing degree of success. I would have no desire to subject it to "scientific method" as I feel no need to proselytize or "convince" anyone that I have "the truth of all truths" (just don't believe in absolute truth anymore). It simply does not matter to me what other people believe, for they do not threaten my schema at all (it's all in my head). We all just launch from different points of departures. This thread demonstrates the Mythos vs. the Logos.
~B.
(let's say "tails").
because, the number of tails you get is statistically how many times the ritual you just performed really works!.
45 tails is 45%, etc.
Terry,
You might find Karen Armstrong's the Battle for God an interesting read. She's along your thought line and the book is a bit off the main topic here, but she really explains the Mythos vs the Logos very well. Also they do not always have to be at odds. They both have place in the collective human psyche.
Anyway, that's all I got to say about that.
Good post!
~Brigid, the unabashed psycho-drama thespian queen to the end!
the subject of how ones remains are dealt with, i think, is very revealing of ones core beliefs.
i've heard atheists say that under no circumstances would they want to be cremated.
that, to me, is inconsistent with their proclaimed viewpoint.
There is a place in Tennessee, I believe, where scientists are experimenting with bodies, just laid out in the open, decomposing naturally (they are using the observations they make to advance forensic science). This is the way I'd like my body, when I am finished with it, to be "disposed" of~going back into and being recycled naturally. That goes along fairly well with my "belief system". Going back to nature to be recycled by Goddess into the eternal scheme of things. All the while, being of some use as scientists observe and use the knowledge to advance the human race in some small way. The only problem is that this experimental burial ground is not on my native soil, so this is an impossibility. For my body must be buried and go back into my native, Texas soil.
I'd like my remains to become part of a Parker County peach tree (for there is none better, or sweeter on this good earth). I'd like to be part of the sweet, succulent fruit that someone bites delightedly into as juice drips slyly down the chin. I'd smile from beyond to know that somehow I still brought corporeal pleasure.
I've thought about donating my body to science when I no longer have use for it. Or the guys at "body works".
Great thread, Gregor!!

hey "i am a newbie poster" and would like a running start here with a problem i have to solve.
a certain bible-reading friend thinks that her apartment is full of angels.
in last week's discussion of angels, i understand that an angel is only sent by god to certain people in order to complete specific messages from jehovah.
Think about this very, very carefully...
I'm afraid the meaning will be quite lost, DS.
Do you mean that someone who comes to you as an angel of light or even, let's say a complete and exclusive channel for god could in fact not have the best intentions for you? Be "Satanic" in nature?
You mean one could replace the name Lucifer in the bible each place it says Jehovah/YHWH??? Now that's just crazy talk right there (the bible says)
LOL!!

does art imitate life or does life imitate art?.
700 post in 5 years.
my goal is to do another 700 post in the next five years.
Journey well, my friend. And when you feel the call, come back here and say hi.
Blessings,

would you ever use witchcraft?.
do you think witchcraft is dangerous?.
do you think witchcraft is just a set of delusions based on ancient superstition?.
No, I prefer Ceremonial Magick
I think in the forum that the question was posed and for a general audience, CM can be considered "witchcraft".
You get along with some "witches", now donchya, baby.
To Sirona's question.
Witchcraft: Yes (it would take volumes to explain how, why, and what precepts I use it for but for a general audience, a simple "yes" will suffice)
The power of Magick: Absolutely do I believe in it (again, volumes to explain that I believe it is within and without)
The Danger of Magick: Absolutely. As dangerous as negative thinking. As powerful as positive thinking. And those, that is, the human mind and it's intentions and energy and essence is very very powerful and very very potentially dangerous (see world around you).
Magick, imo is this "force" it is there. it is here. It is our birthright. It is neither "black" nor "white" the intentions we alchemize it with lend it it's potential for good or "ill". And I believe we all practice magick to some degree. Some of the most powerful magicians I've ever come across had no clue what they were doing....but they were the most formidable/powerful people I've ever come across in my life. Whereas some of the people that have ingested book after book on magick practice are innately weak and ultimately impotent (afraid of their own power). Now when I come across that rare bird that not only knows what magick is but also wields it and owns their power....I am in utter awe. That's kinda how DS and I started hehehe
