Do your burial wishes reflect your inner most beliefs?

The subject of how ones remains are dealt with, I think, is very revealing of ones core beliefs. I've heard atheists say that under no circumstances would they want to be cremated. That, to me, is inconsistent with their proclaimed viewpoint. People with a Catholic-trained psyche want the whole enchilada, a wake, an open ornate casket, funeral service, escorted hearse and limo to the cemetery with a second graveside service and a marker. Of course their dead body must be dressed like it was going out to a nice restaurant or to a funeral.

The Egyptian pharoahs were the champs but it was very expensive and they had to deal with the construction of their tomb for 20 years before they needed it. I have left instructions for my remains to be cremated then scattered in a particular, scenic place. Even this shows some awareness of oneself after death. But I like the idea that my ashes would return to the natural elements and disappear within a few days of my death.

The above doesn't even address the ceremony and rituals that might accompany the event.

    What are your wishes?

No embalming, closed casket. White flowers only. All are invited to attend even the JW friends of my father. I have written my own eulogy that will shock my father and the JWs. I have purchased my plot in a cemetary that doesn't allow headstones. My mother is buried there. I'm also thinking about the small cards you sometimes find at the funeral home. I would like to have a line from a song put on them. "They say when your brought into this world your born in sin, at least that's something I didn't have to steal or win."

I don't much care - cremation seems sensible.

I've been thinking about this very subject lately. Even though I feel anything that happens after someone dies is just for the living, there is no way I would want a JW funeral just because my wife is one.

DJK, I decided some time ago to write my own eulogy as well, and I'm sure it will shock the hell out of the JW's that might come. I suppose there would be quite a few JW's there, and it would be great to lay it on them since they won't listen to me now. If it ever gets read that is. I will respect my wife's wishes on the blood thing, and even though it would really hurt me, I would let her die instead of giving her blood, so I would hope that she would do the same for me with my eulogy.

Since I'm having another birthday soon and time is slipping away, I guess I need to get it written down. Thanks for the reminder.

BTW, cremation for me too. ashes scattered in the Mojave desert.

Cremation, in the back yard if possible. Put the ashes where you like.

    No expense please!

Spend my money on the living!

    Nvr,

You have a crematorium in your backyard

    lol jk

Cremate my body...and scatter my ashes wherever is appropriate at the time of my death...

preferably out in nature somewhere where I loved to be...

I think I wil write my own eulogy too, just say my piece and hopefully wake up my family who might still be JW zombies...

No Lillies, i hate the way they smell...they smell like death

I hope everyone has a BIG PARTY and has a good time, i want them to celebrate what was my life and not mourn my death....

I'd like to have a brass band lead the funeral procession into the cemetary. No real reason other than finding it funny when I saw it in a movie.

might be nice to have a party and have everyone tell lots of jokes. No, on second thought, sound like too much fun without me.

I say that I should be processed, bbq'd, and served to some unsuspecting people.
