The emotions are there, just under the surface. The music or movie is the trigger to allow us to release them. We are so often using some kind of restraint on emotions, just in order to be around others. It feels good to go all the way to the bottom sometimes, and see what lurks there. Isn't that why they call it a "good" cry?

Does it feel good to hurt? Why do we make ourselves sad?
by AlmostAtheist ini've noticed that there are certain songs, movies, memories, etc that make me sad.
there is even a category of music we call "sad songs".
it seems obvious that we would never listen to something that makes us sad.

W.E.Vine and ThirdWitness - Brothers Beneath The Skin?

speaking of w.e.vine and your stated respect for his profound understanding of scriptual exegesis and his scholarly expertise about such subjects, i wonder what comments you have on this observation by the man : .

Not to get in the way of the Pixies and the Politicians, but
A simple question, which I am quite certain will as usual be ignored, in favor of your claiming victory over debates that you do not even seem to fully understand.
3rd and others of his ilk do not seem to actually read other posts, including questions. Their function is similar to throwing a spanner into the works whilst running swiftly by. I believe that that is the preferred method of operations for these types - that way they believe they can't get pulled into the truth about the Lie. On the other had, I've noticed that the ones who will engage in verbal wordplay are not very bright. When cornered, their default response is usually, "Duh!"

Apparently there is now suspicion that Karr was seeking a sex change! Seems there is a little girl inside of Karr trying to get out. This doesn't fit with the circmstances of the murder or the motive. I'm afraid as a viable suspect, this guy is going sour faster than week-old milk. He's just a garden-variety lunatic. But we shall see.

What is the JW View of Clowning :o)??
by Seeker4 in(i threw this into the "jw view of cloning" thread yesterday, and thought maybe a few would like to have some fun with it so i gave it its own thread.
there was this comment in a letter to the body of elders about clowning in march 2003:
"as to the matter of clowning, we can see from phil.

You guys are killing me! It occurs to me that the following from Wikipedia certainly sounds like grounds for disfellowshipping. Just the word, "prestidigitation" sounds like it is straight from Satan the Debbil.
Sleight of hand, also known as prestidigitation ('quick fingers') or legerdemain (pronounced in French, from 'lightness of hand' or deformation of 'le jeu de main' i.e. 'playing with the hand'), is the set of techniques used by a magician (or card sharp) to manipulate objects such as cards and coins secretly. Sleight of hand is not a branch of magic, but rather the means used by a magician to achieve magical effects. The techniques involved are sometimes difficult and may need months or years of practice before they can be performed proficiently. Sleight of hand is mostly employed in close-up magic, but it can also be used in stage magic.
Certainly, honest-hearted ones would be wise to consider that even the appearance of participation in magic is not something a true Christian would want to be involved in. Members of the Christian congregation would want to reflect on the fact that our Creator did not give us the gift of fingers so that we could, in turn, create 'magical effects' and attempt to decieve our brothers. Rather, it would be well that we use our fingers in a fine, spiritually approved activitiy, such as ringing doorbells and sharing our joyful purpose with the householder who answers.

I don't get it
by lola28 ini need some help in understanding something that's been bothering me for a while, please give me some insight on this.
i often see posts here where some take shots at elders and witnesses for working as janitors and window washers, and it's always bothered me.
i mean does it really matter what they do for a living as long as they are making a living honestly?

Everything said about the honorable work of physical labor is true, but I think ya'll are missing the point. Or points.
- The WTS has set up a hierarchy that puts unqualified people into a clergy-class and thus positions of authority over a laity class
- "Janitors and window washers" is kind of a code or short-cut to describe that
- Many, many people on this board have been put before these uneducated, unqualified elders and had their lives torn apart by them
- Thanks to a JW upbringing, I dropped out of high school and was cleaning houses when I was 16 so I could pioneer with a sis in our congo who said, "I've prayed to Jehovah for a pioneering partner!" I should have been in school.
- I could say more, but I have to go scrub a toilet. (Kidding. I now have a cleaning woman to do that. Probably a JW. Don't know and don't care.)

Finally! The Cure for Apostacy!
by V insoon to be reviewed in the watchtower study (july 15 2006, "focus on the goodness of jehovah's organization" page 22, paragraph 15).. this is not a joke!.
emanuel, for instance, was a witness who found fault with some things he read in publications of "the faithful and discreet slave.
" (matthew 24:45) he stopped reading our christian literature and eventually told the elders of the local congregation that he no longer wished to be one of jehovah's witnesses.
