In search for truth...thinking freely or free thinking?
by NYCkid inin a reading for one of my college classes, i came across a passage which i immediately thought i'd share with my friends on this board:.
"truth gains more even by the errors of one who, with due study and preparation, thinks for himself, than by the true opinions of those who only hold them because they do not suffer themselves to think...there have been, and may again be, great individual thinkers, in a general atmosphere of mental slavery.
but there never has been, nor ever will be, in that atmosphere, an intellectually active people.".

we haven't been here for a couple of weeks.
anyway, the jw left us a little surprise folded up on our front door...their "false religion" tract.

Attn: College Students
by NYCkid inhey, for you yahoo/google discussion group junkies, i've just created a discussion group on both yahoo and google for former and current jws who are attending college or are seriously thinking about attending college (meaning you've begun the process).
this is for us to centralize discussion on issues relating to college and to network and encourage academic excellence.
check them out, i'd like to get this started.

Breaking News - JW Arrested
by NYCkid in"police in middletown are accusing 50-year-old minister jesus cano, a jehovah's witness, of trying to lure young boys for sex with nude pictures of himself, which he'd printed with his phone number.
i believe he is/was a bethelite at the wt farms.
saw it on my local evening news.. http://wcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_177180721.html.

Decline to add to their numbers
by NYCkid ini stopped going to memorials a few years ago, partly since it was such an inconvenience but partly because i don't want add to their numbers of attendees.
now, it's solely for the reason that i don't want to add to the numbers of attendees (plus the talk is always the same: why only 144,000 partake, what's the role of the great crowd, why [a fake passover] is the only religious commemoration true christians should be observing, what's the meaning of the bread and wine...blah blah blah) .
at least i closed that chapter with fond memories.

Attn Congress: Solution to Immigration Issue
by NYCkid ini'll be contacting congress with a proposed solution to the immigration crisis, specifically regarding the issue of immigrants taking the jobs that ordinary americans don't want: hire jehovah's witnesses.
my mother was bragging recently about how a former nasa scientist became a jw and left his high profile nasa job to clean toilets (or something to that effect).
given that jws are taught and required to live simply by avoiding careers or secular education, it's more than likely that many jws will fit the need for low-paying menial labor.. the problem is that we need more jws to replace the millions of immigrants in the united states who may be forced to return to their home countries.

The Powerful Resurrection Hope
by NYCkid inim in the midst of visiting my parents, having only been allowed since my father is very ill. during the past few days, ive come to realize that one of the cornerstones of their faith is the hope of an earthly resurrection.
both of my parents lost siblings and parents tragically when they were very young.
the hope, of seeing them alive here on earth and the idea that upon their death they will only sleep until the time of the resurrection, is very powerful and is a driving force that maintains their devotion to their faith.

Scholarship for former JW's Proposal
by NYCkid insince such a program does not exist as far as i'm aware of, i am proposing setting up a scholarship program for former jw's.
from my understanding, a non-profit entity and a committee would need to be formed (not sure of legal criteria for european, australian, asian, latin american and south american countries).
although specific scholarship criteria would be discussed and formed by a committee, i believe this should only be offered to those who have taken the step to leave the organization and who have enrolled in a two-year or four-year undergraduate and graduate programs.. anyway, i've mentioned this to former jw friends in the past who all think it's a great idea but it goes nowhere...anyone on this board interested?
