4 pet rats, though none of them are sitting with me at the moment. As it is daytime, they are sleeping in their cages for now. I'll let them out to play later this evening.

Crazy Californian Witnesses...
by Dune ini dont know if you guys noticed or not.
but there is a general consensus among my friends and some witnesses that i talk to that there is something almost inherently wrong with californian witnesses.

How many here used to attend meetings un prepared?
by JH inon sundays, i hardly ever read my watchtower.
i would take 2 minutes to underline here and there just to look good.
if i wanted to make a comment at the watchtower study , i'd read 1 or 2 paragraphs and answer the question related to those paragraphs, that's it.

No preparation at all. I was typically at a large enough congregation that no one notice if you didn't comment.

My first congregation I attended here was Buena Park,, went there for a few months,,, moved to long beach,, went to maybe a handful of meetings and that was it.
I just know that Buena Park Congo was very fanatic,, well,, speaking of fanatic,, the last Long Beach meeting I attended,, During the watchtower study,
a sister was practically yelling into the microphone that if we didn't go out preaching then we were LIARS!!!! because as baptized witnesses we promised to
go preaching door to door,, you are a LIAR!!!! reminded me of the fat lady from 'trading spouses' or 'wife swap'... we all know the episode.

Hey, I've been here in california 3 years now and I think the witnesses here are more fanatical than the midwest. There's nothing like having some punkass 13 year old 'brother' inform me that this stuff is really serious(meetings, service, worshiping the WT corp, etc.)
Never in my life did I have a punkass brat encourage(bully) me to be more spiritual.

Warning to all DUBS!!! The Smurfs are coming back!!!

I was pretty young when the smurf fanatics came out of the closet.
What still baffles me to this day, is that I have an Uncle who is quite intelligent and he claims there was a demon in his house that was slamming doors and making noises,
all of which happened right after they had bought smurf toys for their kids. In the middle of the night with these doors supposedly slamming, he got up took the smurfs
outside and burned them in their firepit. Sure enough all these strange things stopped occuring. Do I believe it? NOT FOR A SECOND! But what I just don't understand
is that, seriously,, my uncle is quite intelligent, is he that brainwashed? As 'Sir82' mentioned on a previously thread,, these supposedly powerful demons have much
better things to do than wait inside a smurf body(or any item) hoping that an unsuspecting witness will buy it.
What are your thoughts? Does anyone here know of anyone with halfway intelligence that supposedly experienced such a 'Smurf Encounter'? DO YOU BELIEVE IT?

Wow 'stilla'
I'm the same with my nails. I've been chewing them since I was about 5 years old. I honestly think anxiety had a lot to do with it, as I remember only chewing
them when I was at the hall. Now I chew them all the time, especially when I'm stressed. Yeah, that's it,, I'll blame it on the watchtower! :)

What proportion of JW kids stay Witnesses? How about in your cong?
by jwfacts inthe wts is currently growing at about 1.3 % which is similar to the global propulation growth rate.
if all the jw kids stayed as jws then the religion could grow as quickly as it is now without any door knocking.. if in 2005 1.2 billion hours witnessing resulted in the religion only growing at the rate it should be naturally it suggests a lot a kids are leaving, or doorknocking is not having very good results.. of about 100 people born into the wts that i can remember in my congregations in australia about 3/4 of them have left.
is that the same in your congregation?

Back in the midwest where I was raised, the local congregation has a pretty good success rate of keeping the 'young ones'
I do feel this is because most in that area do not go on to college and get stuck in the old school small town mentality,, Most in that area never leave and gain work as
carpet installers/cleaners, janitors, logging industry, etc.
There also seems to be a bit of inbreeding in my old congregation. For example,, there are two huge families that dominate the congregation,,
My family(thank god I live 2000 miles away now) and another family. Needless to say, I am now related to the 'other family' because of many marriages.
I wouldn't be surprised if during a family tree search you would find that my large family and the other large family originated from the same family(yuck!!!)
Here in california, I attended a congregation in Buena park for a short time. There were some young ones, but hardly any beyond the age of 18.
Then you would find some married couples that were in their mid 30's to 40's so there was a gap. Other than myself, there was no one from let's say 20-30 years of age.
I next moved to long beach, attended a local congregation there twice,, it was just young kids and old people,, nobody in between that was my age.
Now I attend an occasional sunday meeting,, Since I work all over SoCal I randomly pick a new hall and attend,, For me it's fun, since I like meeting new people.
At all these other halls,, basically the same thing,, little kids, and older married couples. My guess is the drop out rate is in excess of 80%

Question for JWs still on the "inside":
by Hellrider injust a question: if you are still jws (for any reason, many just can`t leave because their entire families are wrapped around it, etc), but don`t believe in it, and lead a "double life", how do you cope with going door to door?
i just can`t imagine how it must feel like to go out there and try to tell people at the doors or in the streets things you know are just bs!
how do you deal with that?

I never do 'field service' and I never will again. If someone wants to talk about religion I use only the bible. The only time I reference the watchtower is when I talk to other witnesses
regarding inconsistant doctrines/rules/regulations.
I merely attend the occasional meeting to show my face and give the illusion of being a witness.
From my Great grandparents to my nieces there are 5 generations of witnesses in my family. I think I have in excess of 100 witness relatives.
Therefore I just 'hang on' by a thread so that I don't lose my entire family that's caught up in the F'd up religion!!!
Till the day I die, I promise I will never spread the lies in the watchtower.

JWs and voting??
by Super_Becka ini was talking to my jw boyfriend on the phone earlier today, just chatting about anything and everything, just like always, and we managed to drift to the topic of politics.
given that i'm in canada, that's not a hard thing to do, we had a federal election last week and we're about to swear in a new prime minister, so it's all anyone here can talk about right now.. as we chatted, i mentioned that i was very glad that i'd voted, though i'd had some trouble at my polling station, because i like exercising my democratic right to vote and now i have the right to complain about my government, and of course, he mentioned that he's never voted.
i wasn't at all surprised, i've always thought that jws weren't allowed to vote.

Fairmind has it right.
Voting is another case of 'doublespeak' ,, do as I say, not as I do, sort of thing. Though there's an article stating it's a personal choice, the reality is you'll be harrassed and
possibly/probably disfellowshiped for voting. I suppose it would just depend on the Body of Elders at your local congregation and how much you publicize the fact that you vote.
