Elderly JW refused to open her Bible...
by AuldSoul inokay, some of you might have read about my conversation with the elderly lady that was doing street witnessing in conyers, ga. this experience happened this morning ... just looked at the clock, yesterday morning .
i walked out of the local tag office (where we register our vehicles and acquire license plates for the cars) and there sat an elderly lady with current magazines.
being in somewhat of a hurry, i tried to walk a more direct path to my vehicle ... but she thought i was avioding her.

Forbidden interests?
by girasole inwhat interests you now that you can think about, study, explore, and delve into anything that you'd like?
did you embrace this freedom immediately or did it take a while?
i left the borg in 2002 and at first i buried myself in books about philosophies and such that i'd never before been allowed or allowed myself to consider.

I am lying hands on every information I can get about quantum mechanics information theory Lewis monads Ancient Church Fathers I am interested into the new emerging branch of physics where notation of "information" comes into reality and quantum mechanics and information theory are being merged into one big picture. Interesting claims about our reality is from information point of view, that primary substance of existence is information. In other words "Information" is key to the new era of science! Will see what comes out of it.

Worst scriptures taken out of context?
by slimboyfat inour new circuit overseer was telling us yesterday that we should be careful that we use scriptures in context, and should always be ready to explain the verse in context if the householder queries our interpretation.
because some people have claimed that jehovah's witnesses take verses out of context!
well it strikes me that the society does not set a very good example for the publishers in this regard.

The very context of Bible is Jesus. So it is pretty clear that whenever WT speaks it speaks out of context! But other example comes to mind is Eccl 9:5, where when we read from 1-5 we see that context is from "under the Sun" viewpoint, it's not talking about state of dead from their viewpoint or God's viewpoint.

Some time (about year or less) ago I was approached (on other christian forum) by JW. He attacked me for attacking JW. Later we started private letter writing (all in i-net) and soon he and I realized that he is not so sure about JW atall. I was polite and not harrassing, we discussed several topics and central was Jesus Christ and how I see Him in light of several scriptures. Strong scripture for him was 2 Cor 5 (end of chapter). I don't remember all we talked but we talked for long time all in the net. Then we stoped and he disappeared. About week ago he announced on the same forum that he has left. He was very friendly to me! Today he is out of JW and seeking for true Truth. I don't know what was my part in all of it, but I am glad that atleast one JW is out because God working through me. It makes me feel a bit more eaven with my real brother who is still there and I guess getting deeper and deeper...

Jehovah God and God
by Geronimo ini realized today that when i was a dub i unconsciously made a distinction between jehovah god and god.
i had always thought of god as infinite eternal conscious energy and love, the sum and ground of being itself.
impersonal except as personified in sentient beings such as ourselves.

Nark, coz you are not quoting :) But on topic. I agree, and they don't think much even what the name "YHWH" means. That exactly means - "One who brings existence into being"... Even names of God reflects only some of his characteristics without actually saying too much about his nature. This name YHWH is the most close we can get to God by means of language. For more is dangerous, for more God have to do it on his own initiative, and he did - in Jesus Christ

"....you will be like gods, knowing good and evil."
by Lilycurly ini know this has been mentioned before, but i'd like to bring that question to the front again.
not only from a jw's perspective, but also from all other christians.. who lied to man and woman in the eden story?.
yahweh god says to men: 17 "nevertheless of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat, for on the day you eat of it you shall most surely die.

Which part didn't you understood? Death in Christianity is a bit different understood than in secular world. Death from God's point of view is to be separated from God and all what God wants for you. So God didn't lie, man was cast out of Eden so actually he died - was seperated from God in the very day of wrongdoing.
Knowing good and evil by experience actually means to become evil. That's what happened and evil can't be in presence of God. You don't have to know evil by experience to survive in God's presence, so it was not necessary actually for man. But what snake sayed is that actually God is lying and hiding something from man. That God does not want for man something good, and man believed snake rather then God even when man had experience of God's grace in Eden and didn't have any base to believe in snake. Lying in it's pure form - to change good and evil! This is what happenning today globally - good becomes evil and evil becomes good.
And by separation from God comes corruption which end's in ordinary fleshy death. -

on the trinity
by drew sagan ini was just wondering what the opinions those on this board regarding this topic.
i know some have moved towards more orthodox theology, others have not.
curious as to what the opinions are of this.

Essential christianity doctrine is that Jesus is God. That God had taken part in human life through incarnation in Jesus Christ. God became man, two natures in one beeing. This is essential coz without it salvation is not possible. AntiTrinitarians have build their own image of God and rejects the only true Image - Jesus Christ.

What's your present belief ?
by JH in.
without attacking anyone for their beliefs, feel free to state what you believe in right now.. personally, i still believe in a higher power, a creator, call him jehovah if you wish, a god that will put things back right eventually.
