Remember the belief in the '80's that the King of the North was the communistic powers that would at least battle with the Anglo-American powers in a limited, conventional war?
The WT Org. is expert at letting these teachings quietly fade away as they become outdated and just plain wrong. Heck, there are Witnesses now who wouldn't have a clue what we're talking about!

King of the North where is he hanging out?
by edmond dantes inhave we had any new light on who the king of the north is at the present time because i need a reminder .i haven't read anything about him since the 1960s.and the last time i tried explaining it to a little old lady at the door the russian missiles were on the their way to cuba and the late night news reader, that night ,said " goodnight everyone and i hope you all have a peaceful and restfull night," which was very unusual because radio announcers did not comment after the news in those days.. thunder and lightning, frightning very very frightning, bealzeebub moma mia moma mia!.

the new mark of the devil
by james220 ini heard last night, when i was watching tv, that some archaeologists in egypt discovered a ancient papyrus, with one on the original copies of revelation written on it, and i think most people have heard of the mark of the wild beast which revelation talks about, and the bible says it is 666, and this is the number which jehovahs witnesses and every other church around the earth has teached for thousands of years, but then the archaeologists translated the papyrus, they found that it said the mark of the wild beast it 616, and not 666.you might think it is not that big of a deal but if you think that jehovahs witnesses say that they are the one true religion and that jehovah talks to the faithful and discrete salve, so you would think that they would have said that it was 616, but it has not come out from them, also they mention a lot of the names in the bible which people say did not exist, and then when archaeologists find items with them on the make a big fuss about it, but i dont think this is something they will make a fuss about, think they will let it pass other them and not mention it.

Thanks James. Now my advice is; don't believe anything you see on those thirty minute documentaries on T.V. Wait until it's posted on the internet somewhere and then you can be certain it's legit. Cheers, Pete ;)

Letter
by d.boon inabout two or three years ago do you remember (if you were on the body at that time) that the c.o.

I remember this causing a lot of questions from a few elders one shouted out, "Then why are we even here if we're not appointed by holy spirit anymore." - I suspect this questioning voice was frog-marched to the back room smartly and demoted to 'private'.
a conversation with our CO. He mentioned some elders are appointed without the holy spirit's directions. When a BOE overlooks flaws and recommends an elder, his appointment may go thru the human channels, but the appointment is never 'sealed' in heaven. In due time, Jehovah makes the adjustment. However, the damage to the congregation can be high. A man can serve for a while w/o spirit, but eventually he will stumble. - assuming your recollection of the conversation is accurate, and I think it is, this is the sort of speaking out of both sides of ones mouth that Society men are good at! I'd like to see what scriptural support he offered for that piece of speculation. -

American-isms
by White Dove inwhat are some words or phrases that people outside of the usa find amusing or interesting?

Just a few that have been missed I think:
"Thanks so much" - "Thanks very much"
Hood (car) - Bonnet
Bathroom - toilet
The emphasis of the letter 'i', e.g. mult'eye'-milionaire as opposed to mult'ee'-millionaire. Yet we say 'miss'aisle' for missile !
We pronounce 'route' as 'root'
And I've noticed that as we have so much US television here that my kids think that 'Z' is zee and not zed. -

Scans needed, Aid to Bible Understanding (not 1971)
by Fatfreek ini have the original release of the aid to bible understanding book (english), copyright, 1971 (inside front cover).
only if there is a later copyright date cited in your aid book will i need your help.
i wish to make a word for word comparison of certain articles that were found in the aid book, then transcribed into its predecessor -- the insight on the scriptures.. .

Ah, good times Len :(
If the kids died of starvation there was always the resurrection. Funnily, I paid $7.00 NZ too when I bought mine about 1982. I read somewhere that Ray Franz had a lot to do with the research and writing of this mighty tome.

Did you know the original Aid book was published in parts beginning with A - E in 1969 ? It was intended for release in 1970 but didn't arrive complete until the following year.

New Here
by LearningMore ini have been lurking here for a couple of months.
i was born and raised as a witness, and am a little weirded out to even be posting on here (you know the paranoia).
anyway, i faded about 10 years ago, and after reading so many posts, i am so happy that it was a pretty uneventful experience.

Welcome Learningmore. We've got some UBM's (Unbelieving Mates) here that have a very good insight into the Society.
For example, jgnat has never been a Witness but she understands more than her JW hubby does ! -

A brother in my cong. wasn't a great reader but he was enthusiastic and a bit of a clown, the sort of guy that would make lame quips from the stage that would just confuse people.
He's giving the No. 1 talk this evening and reads a passage about David 'rooting' the kings round about ! About 5 of us exploded and the bro had a look on his face that said 'What did I say ? Man , I'm funny"
BTW we pronounce 'routed' as 'rooted', also slang for intercourse if you didn't know.
