Gooddess Rachel has probably hit on the most common dumb thing said. Elders who are too thick to know when they are out of their depth when dealing with depression.
"Pray more and do more field service" - Fine counsel to a suicidally depressed publisher - ME!
Another one; "He spent too much time listening to Heavy Metal" - said to me by an elder at the funeral of a 16 YO elders son who had gassed himself in a car. -

but i have been in two congregations in the past 2 years and they are both struggling to keep elders and ministerial servants.
one much worse than the other, though.

I think you may be on to something there about lack of qualified men to take the Book Study. Obviously no one believes the 'cost of fuel' excuse.
As a matter of interest, my old congregation had 5 or 6 elders ten years ago. Now it has none and elders are assigned weekly from congregations 90 KM away! -

"The" Lebanon makes no sense. Why the specific article?
Actually I've heard others refer to the country as 'The Lebanon' in the same way as we refer to 'The Congo'or 'The Sudan'
I've noticed when Americans visit NZ they will say 'South Island' or 'North Island' whereas we will say 'The North Island' etc. -
