As the resident cowboy,I can assure you we're talkin' 'bout a very dead horse here.
By the way guys,I didn't join the battle, but I will buy a round and call for a toast to buryin' the hatchet.

Why Are You Here?
by larc inthe question, "why are you here?
" is simple enough, and your answer may be straightforward.
however, when i asked that of myself, i find that my answer is pretty complicated.

I came here to communicate with others that I have something in common with.Like most of the rest here ,I spent a large part of my life as a JW.Until I found this site I had almost no one to share those feelings with.It is a unique experience, and it has shaped all of our lives to some degree.Whether we like it or not it's part of us,and here we can find people expressing it in all sorts of ways.
As I've said before-this is the first time I've experienced so many intelligent people expressing themselves so openly(maybe a little too openly). But it's a lot of what makes this place what it is.When you've been brought up to be a blind follower, debate is a really cool thing.
I agree with others(Slayer, for one)that it's getting to be too much however.I think some of these things start with someone just trying to rattle cages...Hope it calms down soon.I read about other sites burning out-I don't know how that happens, but I hope it's not happening here.
I haven't posted a lot yet because I'm out of practice in writing out
my thoughts, and I haven't found many places I felt I could contribute something useful. My time will come,however...Finally,I think I'm beginning to make some new friends here.If I've learned one thing ,it's that you can't have too many friends(not counting WT "friends")-unless of course, you've got more friends than you've got cold beer(that's easy to fix, though).

Go Ahead And Jump!
by Seven init is the most basic thing about us; we share it with all living beings.
at each moment, millions of events take place inside our bodies and inside our minds that are designed to help us stay alive.
until the present, at least, the forces that are life-preserving have been stronger than the forces that are life-destroying.

Dear Seven,
I too know those dark thoughts. It's been a long time (thankfully) since I've dealt with them myself, but I know where they come from.
In the short time I've been here,I have come to think of you as a friend. Those of us posting on your reckless daughter thread have connected on a certain level. You mean alot to all of us and I too am ready to help any way I can.Your friend always,

Just a few more
by BugEye injoey's teacher sent a note home to his mother saying, "joey seems to be a very bright boy, but spends too much of his time thinking about sex and girls.".
the mother wrote back the next day, "if you find a solution, please advise.
i have the same problem with his father.

Great thread.I'll contribute a couple of little Johnny jokes.
One of the third graders had heard the word penis, but didn't know what it meant. After some discussion on the playground,Johnny volunteered to find out. So that evening he asked his Mom who told him to ask his Dad.Finding Dad in the bathroom, Johnny asked him "Dad what's a penis?".His Dad turned to Johnny and showed him his"Son this is a penis-in fact it's a perfect penis".So next day on the playground Johnny pulled his out and explained"This is a penis-in fact,if it were two inches shorter,it would be a perfect penis".
Johnny was prone to cursing in school. One day after telling his teacher he needed to piss, she tried to explain that he should say urinate.Johnny said he understood,so the next day she asked him to use urinate in a sentence. This was his reply-"Sure teacher, you're an eight, but if you had bigger boobs you'd be a ten".

BEW's ..........Irrational Thoughts
by LadyBug ini have been having some pretty irrational thoughts lately.. its only been 3 months since we decided it is not the "truth".
but sometimes i think we (my family) would have been better off if we had stayed inactive witnesses.
the strain affects the whole family.. sometimes it feels like my whole world has fallen apart.

BEW,I'm sorry for your pain.Like Ladonna,I left fairly young and was never that strong anyway.I can only imagine your feelings on leaving the org.
Kind of like TR said-You take bits and pieces from here and there and slowly your beliefs will come together.
Mostly I just wanted to say that I admire both you and Bug Eye.Your posts have shown us kind, caring intelligent people-the sort of folks who'll weather the storm and come out stronger.

My 8 year old son has ADD.He exhibits many of the symptoms that have been nentioned-talks constantly, interupts others,etc...We have been trying to avoid medication, but it looks like we may have to try it.He,too is very intelligent, and wants badly to avoid taking the meds,so we keep trying...
Logical asked what causes ADD.It is a neurological disorder, genetically linked to Parkinsons Disease.Cowboy

Great topic Patio34.I was the only JW in my small rural school. It was awful -until about 7th grade or so when I figured out being the only one meant there was no one there to rat on me!I was also lucky in that my parents did let me participate in some school activities and spend some time with "wordly" kids.
Jigrigger-You're absolutely right.Even though I got off a lot easier than many JW kids,I still feel the effects...
I wouldn't dream of making my kids grow up that way.
