Did we really believe in Armaggedon?
by james_woods ini got jolted into a forgotten realization by arthur's world events and time of the end thread.. my personal "truth" was and is - i never even really believed in it!!!.
and, yet allowed myself to get brainwashed into following around like a robot and talking to other people like i did...unbelievable now that i think about it.
but in the back of my mind (what little part was still working on its own) i was just thinking - yea sure.

The tale of two(x2) sisters and the Around the World Tour
by james_woods inin oklahoma city, back in the buildup to 1975 (lets say about 68 or 69), there were four very special older jw ladies who had a great influence on my life.
i would like to say something nice about each one.. starting with lois & marie...(lois vandoren & marie salyer for those old enough to remember).
lois & marie were probably the most kind and faithful jw ladies i have ever met.

Speaking of kook prophecies...
by james_woods in.
i just read the pat robertson has now made numerous statements that god has warned him that a tsunami wave may be coming to strike the pacific nw of the us sometime this summer.. very cool - if it happens, he can bask in the glory of "i told you so".
no matter who gets killed.. if it doesn't happen, i suppose he can say he prayed in the behalf of washington and oregon and that god changed his mind.... for crying out loud, either tell us what day and what city or else go back to picking on the dictator of venezuala!

JW's and the Vietnamese...
by james_woods inthis got inspired by some private conversations over the past few days...and because my life companion and her kids are vietnamese.. i had witnesses specifically call at our door a while back; they were an older vietnamese man and a young teenage girl.
the girl asks me if someone in the house speaks vietnamese - i assumed that they were just mai's friends from the local vietnamese community.. they were in fact jw's.
they were not going door to door - they had specifically targeted us and drove right up to our house.

History Channel & Bible Cannon
by james_woods indid others see the history channel programming this weekend on the history of early day christianity?.
among other topics, they discussed the argument between arius and athanasius which decided the divinity of christ.
also discussed was the existence of many early christian writings which were eventually excluded from the accepted bible cannon.. so this got me to thinking - the wt society takes the position that the church came down on the wrong side of the arius/athanasius fued.

What were the weirdest DF cases you ever heard?
by james_woods ini know we had a thread a while back on all the reasons for getting dfd, but it just occurred to me that not each case is the same at all.
in addition to the usual adultry/fornication stuff, i have seen some pretty wild scenarios when i had to be on the committee or around it as an elder.
i will give you a couple to start this off, hoping that some of you also know of something similar.

also, my post # two hundred just came up by chance today.

607 vs 586 - Why should WTS care?
by james_woods inof course, there must have been a thousand threads on this debate.. having read a few of them, i say who cares?
particularly, the society?
ok, so lets say it really was 21 years later than they thought...but using their same (flawed) chronology theory:.

are they Pinko Commies?
by james_woods ini was just reading the post of ldh on that thread about "class" warfare.
it made me think of something because she mentioned "socialism".
way back when (60s & 70s) this was a very common objection out in the field service.
