It's interesting how some people view this similarly to how they view private property rights. 30-40 years ago, environmentally responsible use of private property was just gaining momentum here in the States. Believe it or not, there are people who still believe that they have a right to do anything they want on their property regardless of the environemtal impacts of surrounding areas. Only 16 states have env. impact laws set up to require review of proposed developments that will potentially cause significant impact. Those 16 states are largely the most populated, and most urbanized, so naturally with the densification of populations there will be more laws to make sure the rights of one party is not abused by another party who thinks their right is inaliable.
In California, the most highly populated state in the US, it has been illegal to smoke in bars and restaurants for a long time (a decade at least). Simply put, it is a matter of unrestricted air pollution. There are restrictions on most air pollutions in the US as per the Clean Air Act, so why should polluters of some of the most toxic substances available be exempt? I know there are a lot of diferring opinions on these subjects, but we are not in the Dark Ages here. We have the luxury of the science that enables us to live beyond the standard 40 or 50 years in a lot of countries, and one reason is environmental laws regulating air and water pollution.

Complete ban on smoking in public places just passed in England
by ballistic infrom summer after next, smoking will be banned in any public place including pubs and clubs in england.. although i plan on giving up again, i still don't agree with government interfering like this.
they had previously.
made proposals for some pubs to remain licensed for smoking which i thought would have been a workable compromise.

Financial aid/academic withdrawal questions-please help
by Chia inif anyone knows anything about college stuff, i'd appreciate their help.. some people on this forum know about the rocky year i had last year--really, the last 2 years.
i've moved countless times in the past 2 years, 5 times in the past 8 months alone.
leaving the religion, having a car accident (serious enough to total my car but not injure me), and countless other incidents have derailed my college education.

I dont have all the answers to your questions, but I do know what you need to do. If you have a Stafford loan, call EdFund and sort it out. THey manage loan transactions for the federal government. Your loan is probably with Sallie Mae, but I would call EdFund first (http://www.edfund.org/) - they are very helpful. Second, visit the financial aid office at the college you attended (or call if you are far away) and tell them your situation. They deal with cases like this A LOT. Everyone you talk to will want to see you succeed, they will understand, believe me. And no, it will certainly NOT affect your future loan status if you return to school - EdFund pretty much garauntees you a loan if you meet the criteria - and a minor default I do not think will break that criteria.
About your grades, I do not think you will be able to get around that... but I could be wrong. -

Other than textbooks (which I rarely read anyway ;) I just finished A Civil Action and am now starting The Devil in the White City.
Both are excellent.
"Any suggestions for a good romance novel?" - Phantom by Susan Kay. I'm not one to read romance novels, but that is hands down one of the best books I've ever read. -

This is a stellar example of how the FDS dig themselves into a hole in attempting to explain every scripture. They come with some half-assed explanation that satisfies no one.

This sounds like an extension of the usual shit-fest argument between liberals and conservatives... someone says something about the liberal media, then someone counters with Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly, then someone starts talking about Reagonomics, then its all about the War and Moore, and retold history from both sides.... it's all diahrea straight from the ass if you ask me. There is a lot more to politics than what you people ingest on the 36 inch everyday or what you uncover from reliable news sources such as the interweb. Get outdoors, get some fresh air, makes some friends, and get a colon cleanse.

The WT is again reminding women of their "proper role"
by mjarka911 inthe 3/1/06 wt questions from readers is discussing 1 cor 14:33,34 and explains the phrase "keep silent".
after the usual claptrap and disclaimers (like how sometimes women have to substitute for baptized men in a congregation setting) - it concluded by saying women keep silent by "not raising argumentative questions that could challenge the authority of those who teach.
" how do the women swallow this stuff and still feel grateful for "rich spiritual food"?

"not raising argumentative questions that could challenge the authority of those who teach."
Some people have already spoke my thoughts: Man cannot raise argumentative questions either! Thus rendering this point moot. -
