Bible-Believing and the End Times
by jgnat inauld soul and star moore, i'm starting a new thread on this topic so we don't entangle black swan's excellent thread.
like auld soul, i am also very interested in how a bible-believer comes to the conclusion that we are living in the end times now.
i'm not questioning the bible here, but the observations that make a modern reader come to this conclusion.. and secondary to that, like auld soul, i would like to understand how believing the end times are imminent change a christian's behavior, if at all.. star moore:.

I think its simply a biological clock sort of thing. Every generation has its end, and the feeling of not having enough time affects the more rational senses in some. They infuse this into their faith, come up with some sort of life-after-death scenario, and want to believe it so much they teach it to others in order to validate it to themselves subconcsiously. I think this is the case with the Apostle Paul - where already having the dynamic religious fervour and self-righteousness of the Pharisees bled into his need to explain his sudden crisis of conscience.

Come to California - you get two seasons: rain or shine. Unless you're in the mountains of course.

Revelation It's Grand Climax at Hand! - bookstudy
by TheListener ini was reading e-watchman today and someone there is saying that after studying the what does the bible really teach book at bookstudies the next book will be the revelation book!!!.
there isn't any real proof, but the poster claimed a letter from bethel stated this.
perhaps some here can dig around and confirm or deny this new rumor.. we've studied it 3 times in the past and it's been awhile.

Tonight I was at the bookstudy and of course, its Daniel's Prophecy. The entire study was spent on stretching 2 scriptures to fit like 1500 years of war between the "kings" of the "north" and "south." .... No words can describe the absurdity....

WT library idea
by coffee_black insome here have original copies going back to russell's time.
would it make sense to have a resource library available where we pool what we have?
i have quiet a lot...it's sitting in boxes in my daughter's garage in florida at the moment, but i can get it at some point.

What I have in mind is a comprehensive "Apostate Library CDROM" which contains not only the latest WT Library, but all the old stuffed scanned in as pdf's. Wouldn't that be cool?

And Suddenly I Understand the Muslim "Cartoon" Riots
by MerryMagdalene ini've been thinking a lot about this, watching the news, noticing the problems in communication during interviews.
i have a friend who is a muslim and we try to explain to each other our cultural and religious differences.
there is a language barrier in addition to the aforementioned challenges, but we are still friends who respect and care about each other.. i also have an acupuncturist whose wife is a jw and he gets as frustrated trying to reason with her as i do with my mom.

What Bethelites Are Saying About The Layoffs
by wanda infor those who have friends there or who just left there, what is being said about this?
-
daniel-p
OK, here is what one Bethelite is saying about recently being "laid off": (and no this isn't a joke, hearsay, or rhetoric)
"Well, it's my decision, and you know... I just want to make myself available for whatever Jehovah wants me to do. Obviously he wants me to go out into the field - there's a great need out there, especially in the circuit work." Repeat. Repeat.
Whenever you talk to a Bethelite who is being asked to leave, they will always tell you it's "their decision." This is very sad, because they are saying this only because the higher-ups allow them to in order for them to save face. There is such stigma attached to a 'fallen Bethelite,' it's as if you were an angel and God sent you back down to Earth. Can you imagine how that angel would feel telling everyone it was "his decision"? Believe me, I've been in this situation. It might sound comical to some, but the whole institution of Bethel is oriented around making you humiliate yourself and then offering menial praise and small priveleges, thus building you up and maintaining control at the same time. It's not a new tactic, every military uses the same principles to train disciplined soldiers with maleable minds, enabling them to rationalize any action.
What you get in the end though, is one very dissapointed and dissalusioned ex-Bethelite who, for some reason, feels very empty and depressed after spending 5, 10, 15 years of their life serving at Jah's headquarters 'shoulder-to-shoulder' with the FDS. These are the ones who are going through the motions, keeping up appearances, focusing so much on good works that they no longer know the difference between works and faith.
These ex-Bethelites are trully pitiable, and I do feel sorry for most of them, watching them live the dream and then wake up from it.
